To ask who is the biggest grifter you've seen?

I remember Anthea Turner punting flakes at her wedding. Carol Vorderman was always quick to front a financial product. Just seen Carole Malone on my timeline oiling on about weight loss jabs.

Any others spring to mind?

Captain Tom himself was the ultimate grifter

This properly made me laugh 😆

Something I could never have admitted I thought, even to myself, until I saw your post.

Cattery · 21/02/2025 13:43

Victoria Beckham
Brooklyn Beckham
Anthea Turner
Meghan Markle

@ThejoyofNC
I'd be really interested to hear why you've nominated Zelenski?

@Kiwi83 She has been divorced twice - look up her marriage annulment from Joseph Giuliano.

How come the press haven't run with this too ?

thank you for being bold enough to say this - the notion that this old man
would let alone could walk as far as was suggested was stretching the truth
and incredulity
then he ‘wrote a book’ which didn’t cover him in personal glory
for this and the National hysteria at the time, he was honoured by The Queen,
grifters look after their own

Stacey Solomon. Quite how she's gone from an X Factor finalist all those years ago to now presenting multiple primetime TV shows, flogging everything from cleaning products to deodorant, and her multiple homeware ranges etc. is beyond me!

She's positioned as an interiors and home organisation guru but to me she comes across as fake, phony and just not very intelligent.

I agree with everything you’ve said. She also may come across as a bit dim and ditsy but I believe this is “curated” and that if she isn’t very intelligent, shes certainly very shrewd. Her biggest coup is “pickle cottage” which will be some kind of tax dodge as she uses it for “work”.
Don’t get me started on her sister who is trying very hard (and failing miserably) at the influencer game

Because it comes from the type of forums that like to imagine fake pregnancies. Even if it were true (and 🙄) an annulment isn’t a divorce.

MayaKovskaya · 21/02/2025 15:04

I think the trouble is, if a celebrity lies a lot, and gets caught out with the lies, it's hard to believe anything they say.

Breezeblock · 21/02/2025 15:29

I think when people make up such batshit crazy rumours then it’s hard to believe anything. I’m not even a fan, particularly, but literally every very famous woman seems to get accused of fake pregnancies, affairs, and the worst thing any woman could ever do, scheming.

Probably Meghan Markle, considering how much she seemingly conned the RF and public. Honestly, a £32 million wedding for a twice divorced actress! Personally I didn't have a good feeling about her from the start, and have since been validated.

She was once divorced, and you are really telling on yourself with that actress comment. Unlike Kate, she had a successful career and plenty of money before she met Harry.

Why compare her to Kate? That's unnecessary. They're both different women in their own right.

Eh?

She's a TV presenter, and a talented singer.

You might not like her but she does an actual job for a living, that's not grifting.

I love her decluttering show and think she comes across as really warm and personable. I hope that bit's not an act!

Loads of daytime / lifestyle TV shows have a presenter but actually it's the production team coming up with the ideas, is this news to you?

SeanMean · 21/02/2025 18:00

Michelle Mone has to be up there!

True. I guess my reason was that Meghan haters usually love Kate, and also to highlight the inconsistency with the way she is viewed by comparing her to somebody in a similar situation, who does not get treated in the same way

uglyjessie · 21/02/2025 18:03

Surely it's the Duchess of Grifter...Meghan. She has a new insta page called What Ever...

Why the "hate" and "love"?. You can criticise the behaviour of a woman and not hate, admire aspects of the other and not love
I just find this polarised attitude so negative.

MayaKovskaya · 21/02/2025 18:08

Also, Meghan and Kate are not in "similar positions" at all. Far from it. They've got completely different lives.

uglyjessie · 21/02/2025 18:13

@BustingBaoBun

So what what?

Zelensky what????? He’s not a grifter. You one of Trump’s gullible stupid team ?

proporop · 21/02/2025 18:19

Farage, Trump, Musk, Bojo. Without a doubt.

Load of self serving tossers.

You're totally wrong there, Mo Farah is the absolute definition of a grafter not a grifter!

The man's face is on virtually every product in B&M. He seems to stand by a LOT of products for a quick buck. From protein powder to pasta shapes to cat food..He apparently stands by it all!

The question is: who is the biggest grifter I've ever seen.

Mo Farrah is my answer. Therefore it isn't wrong.

Mala53 · 21/02/2025 18:29

I am smiling as I write in reaction to the suggestion that Captain Tom was a grifter.

He was never in the regular army and was conscripted to serve in WW2 in 1940 and demobbed in 1946.

He became an officer, as some did while offers were offered and refused.
(A master in my father’s secondary school for one as the compulsory map case and pistol made them targets and this young man wanted to see his family again.)

Tom received what they called battlefield promotions. He and his family must have understandably proud of that.

Some of my father’s friends came home with similar ranks and happily returned to their careers as teachers, factory workers, accountants - even one dancer. All glad to Mr again, back in civvy street.

Tom retained his rank, although conscripts did not normally do so, and he retained for all of 65 years for 75 years.

Draw your own conclusions.
