Delivery man using toilet

I admit I am a bit of a clean freak at best of times. Can’t bear people wearing shoes inside etc. But really don’t like workmen, etc using my bathroom.

A delivery driver arrived earlier with some kitchen appliances, just delivering, not installing. He asked to use the bathroom and I immediately wanted to say no, as I HATE strangers in my bathroom. But didn’t feel I could refuse.

So he was in bathroom for a minute or so and went on his way. I went in to clean the toilet as I always would, and not only had he used it, but he left a big black pubic hair on the toilet seat 🤮🤮 Absolutely revolting.

Have spent 5 minutes deep cleaning and disinfecting toilet and have put the hand towel in wash because I’m so disgusted.

AIBU to refuse access to my bathroom in future? Or am I over-reacting?

i will have builders in for 2 weeks shortly and obviously they will want to use the bathroom, which I’m not delighted about but can’t be helped. Means I’ll have to clean the toilet every day, but I can’t refuse them using it.

But random delivery men - would you refuse? And what would you say?

'Public toilet facilities in the UK are notoriously shite; if they even exist you couldn't rely on them to be open or usable'

Ours are fine, well maintained. You must get in touch with your Council if yours are notoriously shite and not usable.

Ours have closed down, despite a lot of people having a lot of contact with the council.

So agree @gannett. I think those who are so overwrought at the thought of all those disgusting germs workmen bring in are the same people who boil wash towels when they have touched skin... just once

I'm not one overwrought by germs just don't want strangers traipsing through the house.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 20/02/2025 15:06

I really wouldn't want to say yes as I don't like anyone using my bathroom but I'd feel bad saying no. If I could get away with it I might say "sorry my DH is in the shower".

I genuinely can't believe people would say no. I do home visits and am always using people's toilets because I often have no choice. There has to be something seriously wrong with someone who would deny another human being such a basic right, THAT is disgusting.

PrehistoricMonster · 20/02/2025 15:19

yeah my own dad came once and used the toilet, when he had gone I went in and there was piss everywhere, all over the seat and floor, I do NOT want to clean up other people's piss😡

BustingBaoBun · 20/02/2025 15:21

Does that mean you'd deny your own dad from using the toilet?

This thread is an eye opener for me

Of course I wouldn't refuse. That is straying into proper weirdo territory.

So where can delivery drivers go to the loo? Maybe you should stop getting deliveries and go out and do your own shopping,

This isn’t a full answer although I think there’s a suggestion in the article from the Guardian

I wouldn’t refuse, delivery drivers still need to use a toilet and there doesn’t tend to be one in a van. We’ve had this asked a few times, never had an issue with it

Ditto
You seem OTT OP. Worrying about builders using your toilet too.............

Where does anyone go to the toilet? At home at work (a delivery driver will have a base the parcels obviously need loading), as said previously public toilets or supermarkets.

A delivery driver obviously needs to use their initiative and plan. What happens at lunch time do they knock on doors asking for a cup of tea and a sandwich?

Missing the point entirely. Delivery drivers can get stuck in traffic etc. Have you ever needed to use station toilets etc on long journies?

Yes and service stations are fine I've never gone knocking on strangers doors, have you?

Rightsraptor · 20/02/2025 15:36

I'd definitely say no to a delivery man. Why should I let a strange man into my house when I'm alone? Who thinks that's a good idea?

They can drive to McDonald's or a pub or somewhere.

Workmen are different as I always want to stay on their right side so they'll do a good job. Though some have left behind a disgusting unflushed toilet.

Praying4Peace · 20/02/2025 15:36

Fountofwisdom · 20/02/2025 12:33

That’s exactly the excuse I thought of afterwards but not quickly enough at the time!

I trust you would never complain about someone having to urinate behind a shed/in an alley or other place?

MichaelandKirk · 20/02/2025 15:36

Someone has mentioned Dad's using their loo and leaving it in a state. Some men especially when they are single just cannot be bothered. My Father lived on his own for many years. He let his house become almost unliveable. He never cleaned so when he stayed with my sister he just couldnt understand why she had a go at him for leaving the toilet in a state.

Many years later when we almost forced our way into his house (he met people at the front door and then closed it behind them) we saw how he was living. His two toilets had to be flushed using buckets of water. They were truly horrible.

I know an extreme example but a lot of people just dont have reasonable standards and if they leave your loo in a state it would take a brave person to pull them up on it. I notice no one on his thread has hauled someone back in and asked them to clean up after themselves!

Hideous. I’d probably look at getting a new bathroom tbh

Personally, I'd be looking to move house - but only to a new build because otherwise people might have used the toilet
