Women singers singing in their knickers.

I admit I'm older generation.
I'm a great admirer of singers such as Nina Simone, Linda Ronstadt, Suzi Quatro, Christine Perfect, Joan Baez, Tracy Chapman etc, etc.
They all not only have great voices but also real musical talent.
And they also don't stand and sing in their knickers
So what is it with people like Beyonce and Rhianna? If they really are talented why do they need to sing in their knickers? Why do they need to use sex to sell their songs? They are powerful enough not to bend to the industry pressure on them. Why not stand or fall on their talents rather than on selling their sexuality.?

No

You are saying women have no agency. Can't decide how they want to dress. And if they wear anything "sexy" it can't possibly be because THEY feel good, or it's practical, but because they want men to look at them

Which is one step above "she was asking for it, dressing like that around meme"

I think there is a lot of pressure put on certain female popstars to dress and dance in a certain way.

What is really irresponsible is that it is primarily tweens who follow most of the pop stars who dress like this, it is prime child viewing time that the videos are mostly aired, so it appears to be aimed at children, giving boys and girls the impression that the roles as shown are what is expected of them, really poor messages.

Kylie Minogue in "Can't get you out of my mind" - it appeared that Kylie was perfectly happy with her routine and clothes - but was she? Either way, it was basically a bunch of women giving chairs a lapdance and was primarily aired at prime child tv time, a long time ago but I still remember how inappropriate I thought it seemed. And it seemed to be the thin edge of the wedge - it has all gone seriously downhill since then.

Kylie?

Bloody hell we really are going back a bit now. Next someone will be saying "Cheryl Baker looked happy with the skirt rip during Eurovision but WAS she?"

Music videos are barely even shown on TV outside of music channels and are not the main thing on YT Kids (in fact I think they're probably not even on there). Music videos are, just like much media, fantasy and unreality. They aren't intended to "teach" society.

Your post is incorrect - yes they are and always have been primarily shown at kids peak times - after school and saturday morning (or were last time I looked). You get tweens watching pop videos all the time, seeking the videos out, and absorbing all those messages, copying how they dress and move. This is well known, it is not a mind blowing insight from me. No idea why you are defending it.
