To ask my pharmacist to use my actual title on my medicine

Everythingisnumbersnow · 18/02/2025 16:00

decided to edit this a bit for clarity - I'm a Ms, my pharmacist keeps writing Miss on the labels (as part of a wider pattern of annoying behaviour). Will I look mad if I say please call me Ms on my labels?

(The prescriptions all say Ms)

But HMRC will never rely on someone using a title of "Mrs" to grant spousal exemption for IHT. Anyone can call themselves "Mrs" and claim to be legally married/civilly partnered, but what matters is the actual marriage certificate. No-one is going to take any action, backed by legislation/law/statute based only on what someone chooses to call themselves. Loads of widows/divorcees continue to use the "Mrs" title when they're no longer legally married. So, use of a title, is completely meaningless and pointless and anyone/any organisation relying on a title to infer sex/gender or any form of legal right/entitlement is crazy!

We really should just dump them all together, no one has a convincing argument for why we need to keep them unless it's something like Dr and even then there's no convincing reason why a Dr needs that title noted anywhere on their personal record.

everychildmatters · 21/02/2025 15:35

@Willoo Good for you - guessing you go by Mrs? Personally I find the title Mrs outdated, irrelevant and misogynistic. I'm a Ms as indicated on my wedding certificate envelope 👍
The point is, you have a right to choose and that choice should be respected by others.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 21/02/2025 15:49

Re the argument that titles could be done away with , yes they could.

It's the pharmacists who have decided they will add titles on the labels- if they do that then they should use the title the customer has requested.

Brokenrecordroundround · 21/02/2025 13:47

Like where? Genuine question.

OP presumably gets a regular prescription so she is in there every few weeks but hey ho pharmacies just don't matter, so where is it important? Presumably the places that are a teeny bit more important are also the only places people should ever update their title Mrs?

Yeah possible that nice a month, ie now and then.

Personally I don’t care what you think.

I’ll go by what I want, but won’t be caused any angst by the pharmacy getting it “wrong”

Same

Agreed!

For saying that women are entitled to be treated with basic respect?

You do you, hun.

Oh I will do sweetie, with no hysterics.

I couldn't agree more. At the end of the day, it's simply about basic respect for others (something a few posters on this thread could do with learning a thing or two about, from the looks of their comments to you! 🙄).

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 21/02/2025 16:24

I'm loving the illogical argument that Ms is pretentious. To make sense of that , then so are all the others.

I’m loving the angst about women called Mrs, means they’re in the “smug married club”.

We all have to get our kicks somewhere!

Yep. It's a sad reflection of the world that women think another women is being unreasonable for simply asking not to be labelled by her marital status, but at least it's not 100% (which it no doubt would have been a few decades ago). Progress is slow, but at least it's happening

Sorry this makes no sense - where are the important places according to you we can correct your details without it being a fuss?

Given around that % of married women change their title to Mrs and adopt their husbands surnames, you think they'd see the hypocrisy in telling another woman to stop making a fuss about what title she is registered with . Pot kettle black etc.

I didn't say that. I do think it's sad that a woman thinks she has to validate herself by announcing her marital status when it's completely irrelevant to the particular situation.

I think it's sad that some women can't see anything wrong with the situation that men have an all purpose, suitable for all men title, but women haven't. Or that women who would also like an all purpose title are the subject of derision by women like you.

I can see from bank accounts that I've picked Ms and Miss over the years. As far as I'm concerned neither actually show my marital status, except to small minded people who can't get their heads round the idea that a woman might chose not to disclose her marital status.

No one has angst about anyone being called Mrs though. Some people find it a little cringey but I haven't seen anyone suggest you're hysterical, fussy or pretentious, suggesting you're going by Mrs because you're actually embarrassed to be single and alone etc all accusations thrown at OP for choosing a different title and asking me to record it correctly.

You're not going to get a medal for going to bat for the patriarchy.

I think the angst you're reading might be people feeling like responding to you is responding to a brick wall. If you're gonna make the argument that the pharmacy is not the hill for OP to die on and that she would "look mad" and there are places a teeny bit more important for it to be correct then you can tell us all where that is. It's a really simple question that seems to be beyond you.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 21/02/2025 16:50

I can't get my head round why some women can't see anything wrong with the situation that men, if they have to pick a title, have an all purpose, suitable for all men title, but women haven't.

And not only that, but women shouldn't be allowed to have an all purpose title without being mocked.

But you can't answer the question - why should every man just be a neutral "Mr" but women have to pick a title which is meant to show if they are single or married?

Responses like this show very clearly why feminism has advanced at snail's pace at best.
