To ask my pharmacist to use my actual title on my medicine

Everythingisnumbersnow · 18/02/2025 16:00

decided to edit this a bit for clarity - I'm a Ms, my pharmacist keeps writing Miss on the labels (as part of a wider pattern of annoying behaviour). Will I look mad if I say please call me Ms on my labels?

(The prescriptions all say Ms)

The title will be on your prescription written by your healthcare provider. I had to change everything with my dr when I changed name, my prescriptions then automatically changed.

As to double checks etc, they do that for all drugs even my omeprazole

Agix · 18/02/2025 16:03

I can't say I agree with the upset over it, but you can certainly ask them to change it. I wouldn't take it personally though... I'm Miss on a lot of things despite always ticking Ms

I don't care because I just don't... Maybe I should!

user1471538275 · 18/02/2025 16:03

I think this is a very minor issue that you should not spend your time or a busy pharmacists worrying about.

I think raising it will make you appear more hostile than would be helpful.

Miss Mrs Ms - why does it matter at all? Why do you care?

No it definitely says Ms

I have a copy in my emails

Go to a different pharmacy if you really can't stand them so much.
They are probably more grumpy because of all the paperwork that comes with it than anything to do with you as a person.

I pay the pharmacist hundreds of pounds I think they could owe me a bit of politeness in return

She cares because it matters. It might not matter to you but it matters to lots of us.

OP please do this. It feels very passive aggressive of them.

YouveGotAFastCar · 18/02/2025 16:05

I can't see how you'd do it without seeming like an arse, to be honest.

I think I'd just ignore it and let it wash over me, but you can mention it if you like. Just expect the relationship to be a bit more formal and tense as a result, and I've always wanted to keep healthcare professionals on side!

I honestly think it is. I know people can be too touchy but this is my name!

On a scale of things that annoy me this would be very, very, very low down.

They are already very much not on my side due to openly disapproving of the prescription so that ship has sailed

I don't want to be an arse to the till staff they're all lovely but he needs to sort himself out

Well it's pretty trivial but no harm in asking I suppose.

What? Enough to make a written complaint? I’d move pharmacy too.

HotCrossBunplease · 18/02/2025 16:09

Personally I don’t see why a title is needed on a prescription at all. First name surname date of birth are all that’s required.

I am usually quite strict about correct title but for this one the only person other than the pharmacist who is seeing it is you. so it’s not like they are giving an incorrect bit of information to the outside world if you see what I mean.

If I did want it to be changed and I think I’d probably go with

“oh, looks like there’s an error with my details in your system, it says Miss here and that doesn’t match my prescription. (Show Ms on prescription). Could you update that please for next time? Cheers.”

It's a courtesy title and they should use it but it's not your name. When you sign a legal document such as property transfer or a will it's in your name, not your title.

HipHipWhoRay · 18/02/2025 16:12

Are you in the UK? Some of your post sounds like you might not be. Our local IT systems mean names appear as they are registered on NHS spine, which can only be updated via GP practice. Otherwise you could ask pharmacist where they pull the data from, as it’s unlikely to be free text these days to prevent transcribing errors. That might tell you where what needs updating.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 18/02/2025 16:12

I would refuse to take the medication out of principle.

It is my name for the purposes of my professional regulation, my medical records, my bank account and security background checks.

And general human decency 👍🏻

I am - it's a private prescription so when it's sent to them it's also sent to me so I can see exactly what they get.

This sounds very calm thanks I will try to channel that energy.

It's not your name, it's just a title.

And as long as the actual medication is correct, then to be honest does it really matter?

My name is frequently misspelt in all sorts of places as it's one of those names that can be spelt about 6 different ways. Who cares.

BigDecisionWorthIt · 18/02/2025 16:19

So the issue is most likely a wider NHS problem. It'll be how your details are saved on the NHS Spine.

So to solely blame the pharmacist/dispenser staff is unreasonable.

Whether it's part of the electronic system direct from the GP, the personal details will already be pre-loaded when they click the download button.

If a green prescription with the barcode, the staff will scan the script and it'll load up all the details from the spine.
