To ask my pharmacist to use my actual title on my medicine

Everythingisnumbersnow · 18/02/2025 16:00

decided to edit this a bit for clarity - I'm a Ms, my pharmacist keeps writing Miss on the labels (as part of a wider pattern of annoying behaviour). Will I look mad if I say please call me Ms on my labels?

(The prescriptions all say Ms)

I honestly think it is. I know people can be too touchy but this is my name!

It’s not your name, it’s your prefix and it sounds like you are making a mountain out of a molehill. Get a hobby.

GucciBear · 18/02/2025 17:28

The time to make a fuss is when you are given the wrong meds .............................

Pushmepullu · 18/02/2025 17:28

I think you have your priorities a little mixed up. It’s your prerogative to insist they use a title of your choosing, and to get worked up when they don’t, but surely the fact you say they are overcharging you by 5 times more than the actual cost of the prescription should be of more concern to you? Most people would go elsewhere based on this alone but clearly you have the money to waste and continue using them then get worked up about being called Miss rather than Ms. So in answer to your question, yes you will look mad.

Yes but life isn't misery top trumps. If someone dying is the only thing that matters why not just repeal the equality act.

And of course neither you nor they know what my prescription is for.

You are correct of course.

I was just trying to be honest and say what I would do and say professionally and what (depending on the day) I might be secretly thinking in my head. But this is just ME and I apologise for invading your thread by a personal opinion.

I find Ms as pretentious at they/them.

How are you even vaguely equating them :/

They have actually done this before. With a little pen tick on the box next to the wrong thing. I assume someone else got mine.

I pay the pharmacist hundreds of pounds I think they could owe me a bit of politeness in return

Why? Do you not have a prepayment certificate?

The pharmacy will see very little of that money, BTW. Pharmacies are over-stretched and the future of many is precarious.

My prescription is often given to people with otherwise untreatable pain from cancer. Lovely to know what pharmacists are thinking.

Not as bad as my friend who went to her local to collect morphine for her dying sister and was told "oh someone's having a party!"

Obviously some drugs like broad spectrum antibiotics can treat a host of issues, but a pharmacist will know what your drug is used for - that’s literally their job. You seem very touchy about the whole thing so I’m assuming it’s weight loss injections.

LaBarruci · 18/02/2025 17:31

We should be like the Chinese and have no titles at all. Other cultures manage perfectly well without them.

I was given an alternative of Mx once, and went onto SM to ask what that meant. It's for people who identify as non-binary, or don't want their gender specified in any way. It doesn't really seem to have caught on.

No it's for pain relief

In hospitals they write above your bed how you should be addressed because they recognise how much it matters.

Pharmacies are healthcare providers too.

But do you want the pharmacist to call you Ms Everything? Would you ask staff in a hospital to call you Ms Everything? Surely not. It'd be first name, and the pharmacist has that right so there's nothing to worry about.

Of course you should ask them to correct their record because it'll be easy for them to do and they won't mind doing it. But don't take it as a personal insult that they don't care what your title is until you ask them to.

I don't need them to use my title at all but they insist on doing so so it should be correct

So just tell them! You won't achieve anything by telling strangers who can only state the bleeding obvious in their attempts to help you.

That wasn't obvious from your first post.

Just go elsewhere just as you would with any other business that you weren't happy with.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/02/2025 17:35

YANBU, but is there any reason why you can't give your custom to a different pharmacist?

Why would you assume it's NHS these days?? I wish I could see an NHS doctor. It's what makes the bad treatment all the more annoying.

@Everythingisnumbersnow They are already very much not on my side due to openly disapproving of the prescription so that ship has sailed

Rude.

Not sure I see the parallel between a man or a woman identifying as not being a man or a woman, and a woman who doesn't want to be defined by her marital status, tbh.

Because I expect to be treated with dignity by a healthcare provider?
Ok

As an pharmacist I would of course change things as requested and apologise politely for any offence.

Though in my head I would probably be thinking of the drugs I had just dispensed for the terminally ill patient or the oxygen cylinder for the young mother or the unused drugs received from a recently bereaved family member or the increase dose of morphine for someone's pain that could not get under control. None of that of course has anything to do with you at all and maybe shows how unprofessional / horrible I am, but I know I would secretly think it. I wouldn't, I sincerely hope, let anything show and treat you professionally in future. And make sure all the staff treated you also with the respect in future too by adhering to your wishes.

What a vile and judgemental attitude to hold about a patient (whose history you will only have a snapshot of).

She cares because it matters. It might not matter to you but it matters to lots of us.

OP please do this. It feels very passive aggressive of them.

Passive aggressive? Are you kidding?

You really think that a busy pharmacy is deliberately trying to piss of customers by putting miss instead of ms? You think they've got nothing better to do? Jesus, get a clue.
