To be fucked off the neighbours use my drive constantly

My drive is big enough for about 3 cars if they squeeze on. We have a car which normally gets blocked in by the neighbours who use ours without asking.

It also means if we have visitors, they don't have anywhere to park and they have to find somewhere up the street although the roads are skinny and it's a bit of a nightmare (and I guess that's why they won't do it).

They usually get about 5 visitors a day and don't ask if they can use it first.

I wouldn't mind every now and then (which I have said before) but it's almost every day now and I think they're taking the piss.

I've tried speaking to them and they have said that the visitors don't stay for long so it doesn't matter?

Honestly some people...

My neighbours keep blocking me in, we had a blazing row the other day
He says "I have done my best with you"
I said "have you tried not blocking me in?"
He says "but you can just knock? I can't not block you in ever"
Me AngryAngryAngry

Half the street was curtain twitching and now we are at a stalemate because he thinks I'm being unreasonable to expect never to be blocked in, I think he's a fucking cheeky twat

I would be tempted to ‘fix a dent’ on his car, like father Ted.

Ok so go back and say previously I'd said this was OK, as it was nice to be nice but now you take the piss so it ends today. You are no longer welcome to use our drive.

This. The only acceptable response from your neighbours to “please move these cars & do not park here anymore” is “my apologies, we are moving them and this will not happen again.” Awfully cheeky of them to think they have the right to tell you that it’s fine because their friends aren’t here for long when discussing YOUR property.

I would go straight to getting them towed.
If they are blocking you in that's illegal.

The OP can’t have them towed off her driveway - it’s trespass, which is not a criminal offence, so the police wont be interested.

CleansUpButWouldPreferNotTo · 17/02/2025 18:53

Planters, bins etc won't work as CF will just move them - it needs to be a fence and a locked gate. That should sort the basketball practice sessions too.

BigAnne · 17/02/2025 18:54

Cheeky bastards. Get them told.

I did think of parking the car at a weird angle but because it's quite a wide drive way they would still be able to get around it.

I think gates/fence is going to be the way forward.

Just find it crazy that they always do it without asking and even if I'm out the front and tell them I have got visitors coming they will say 'well our friends won't be staying long so don't worry'

You're not being firm with them. You're accepting their "won't be long" excuses.

You tell them firmly, "no, remove the car now, I did not give permission to use my drive and if you or any of your visitors EVER park on my drive again or cause any obstruction to my drive, I will be calling the tow truck."

Log everything too, dates, times, take pictures as evidence.

ETA I just read that you said they could use it if they asked you first:

"Please take this as written notice that I revoke permission to ever use my driveway. Any further parking against my consent will be logged and reported to the relevant authorities."

You could get some chunky planters. I’ve got some long trough ones and barrel planters. There’s no way I could shift when full.

May I be the first to suggest fanfare .....

Penguin bollards.

This, they sound exceptionally cheeky to park there, if it’s causing you inconvenience, I wouldn’t think twice and install the bollard without telling them.

ImRonBurgandy · 17/02/2025 19:00

How about a chain across the driveway entrance - cheaper and can have a sign put on it

It's not rude to put a gate on your driveway, but you shouldn't have to. It's rude of them to use YOUR property. I think you need to be firmer with them.

Bignanna · 17/02/2025 19:02

Parking post and concrete plant pots. It’s a shame you ever let them start parking on your drive.

Mirabai · 17/02/2025 19:06

Sleeping policemen?

bakebeans · 17/02/2025 19:07

Are they doing anything illegally? Ie selling from the house? I find it odd how so many people turn up at the house daily and never for very long?

BigSkyDreams · 17/02/2025 19:07

Simple solution: put up a private driveway, no trespassing sign.

BigSkyDreams · 17/02/2025 19:09

I would also send them a letter stating you do not want there guests using your driver, send recorded delivery.

Re. football on the wall - it may be damaging it. I'd also put a stop to that. In the good old days jumpers were used for goal posts.

Moveoverdarlin · 17/02/2025 19:10

crappymeal · 17/02/2025 16:26

Their kids seem to play out the front and end up playing football on our drive too as we have a brick wall which is often used as a 'goal'. It's all just getting a bit annoying. Will see if any suggestions help. Thanks everyone.

Getting a bit annoying? This would send me apoplectic with rage. Sorry but I think you’re being a bit wet. Next time someone parks on your drive, go round there and say it needs to be moved immediately as you need access. Tell them you are installing gates as it’s got ridiculous and tell them you will be phoning the council to tow any vehicles that park on your drive.

Comfortablycosy · 17/02/2025 19:12

I cannot fathom how it came about that you said they could use it sometimes. What was your private space has now become shared in their mind and you’ve got kids playing football on it.

Because they don't bloody care what your thoughts are - it's about what's convenient for them! For chrissakes - "They usually get about 5 visitors a day and don't ask if they can use it first." - IMO, there's something very dodgy going on there, which IME is usually quite honestly sex or drugs. Get gates, barriers which rise unless there's a code or whathaveyou - invest. Yes, it's some money, but worth it for the peace of mind.

Then if you want to earn some dosh to pay off the cost, stick the parking spot on an app which means they have to enter a code and be charged for it 😄

NovemberMorn · 17/02/2025 19:13

Bloody hell.
Instead of the OP forking out money for all the gates, fences, plant pots, signs, etc, why not just tell them in no uncertain terms ... the gravy train is over .
Dont ask them, or hint, or say it's OK sometimes, or allow them to walk away and be ignorant....just BLOODY TELL THEM .

Rant over. 🙄

Presumably they’ll know already that the council won’t tow cars parked on private property.

crappymeal · 17/02/2025 18:01

@NovemberMorn clearly.

Me telling them they have to ask before they do it was clearly too difficult for them to understand.

Can you start parking on their drive? Just for fun?

DBD1975 · 17/02/2025 19:19

Parking over your driveway, kids playing on your driveway, sounds hideous and takes away your peace of mind. I know I have lived with similar neighbours, it was a nightmare, I wish we had moved but thankfully they did so we didn't have to.
This isn't going to end well, they are inconsiderate and you are never going to get them to behave otherwise.

CoastalCalm · 17/02/2025 19:21

I’d park my car width way across the entrance to the drive

I tried but it didn’t! 😁
