To ask how to best handle this car blocking my drive?

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 14:07

I live near to a football stadium and the team are currently playing. Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in. I assume they have gone the match.

You need a residents pass to park round here and it doesn't look like they have one. Looks like I'm trapped until they come back.

What's best to do? Can I report them to the council? Leave a note? Confront them upon their return. Or is all of that pointless?

I wanted to go to the supermarket which will likely be closed by the time they're back.

Liverpool to Wolverhampton. That’s a fair old drive.

How does the tow company tell someone their car has been towed? They’ll probably think it’s been stolen.

I think I've posted this five times now. The removal company doesn't tell the driver. The driver calls the police or TRACE.

You're assuming it was a Wolves supporter. Don't they go to away matches in coaches? More likely a Liverpool fan.

MikeRafone · 16/02/2025 17:11

it was harsh to block someone inter drive, the blocker had no idea what or when the car they were blocking might need to be used. It could have been Op needed to drive 200 miles away to a sick parent and had to spend money pn getting a train instead of taking the car. It was harsh to just block the car inane not leave a note saying when they would be back giving a time or reason - nothing like that was considered. It was harsh to block someone in their drive and not allow them to use their own car and inconvenience them without any regard for this lives or what might be happening inter lives.

Now the op has freed her car and can now use it again, but the person who didn't think about her will have a lot to think about

MonetWaterlilies · 16/02/2025 17:12

If losing your car for a couple of days and having to pay a fine is going to be a serious inconvenience for you then don't park illegally!

Rosscameasdoody · 16/02/2025 17:12

Seeline · 16/02/2025 17:07

I assume your drive isn't regularly blocked by CFs who think no one else has anything important to do, and they are far more important than anyone else...

Yep, this. The punishment should feel harsh for the crime. The next time he thinks about parking at someone else’s inconvenience maybe the gap in his wallet created by the impound fees will remind him not to.

Justalittlehandhold · 16/02/2025 17:12

DreamW3aver · 16/02/2025 17:03

I know what you mean, if they are away fans how will they get home, get to work tomorrow, get back to pick up the car and all the associated costs

The punishment does feel a tad harsh for the crime

Not blaming the OP, she was egged on by all the armchair combatants but I do feel some sympathy

There is only one person to “blame” the CF who blocked OP in!

Perhaps the cost will stop them doing it again, entitled feckers!

Well if it is it wouldn't be someone local. We all know what happens in Speke when people block drives there because too tight to pay for airport parking!!!!

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 17:13

So a man about 50 by himself was just walking down the street talking on his phone very animated. He did stop briefly and then turned around. Could be the culprit but he didn't knock or anything.

I do actually feel slightly bad now. I never actually thought a tow truck would turn up if I'm honest!

I love seeing a bit of karma in action…

Karma police
Tow this man's car
His CF parking
Is blocking my car in

Jessbow · 16/02/2025 17:13

Didnt kick off until 4,30 , so thats Half six-ish or later probably before someone poops themselves.

Placemarking.

No, don't feel too sorry. He had a choice. He made the wrong decision.

I'm not mad in the slightest and I'm not saying they dont deserve some form of negative consequences but the cost and potential knock on effects aren't proportionate to the offence imo

Well the police disagree, so better just to follow the law in the first place and not be a selfish dickhead.

It’s finished - it started at 2. He should be well back by now

JSMill · 16/02/2025 17:14

It's more likely an away supporter because home supporters who drive tend to have a regular place to park.

Me too. Do not answer the door to them if they knock.

AllstarFacilier · 16/02/2025 17:14

Oh god I couldn’t sit waiting for the knock. Though if I’d parked my car on a street, I doubt I’d know which house it was in front of if the car wasn’t there on my return.

MJconfessions · 16/02/2025 17:15

You have confirmed the stadium and where you live on this thread. You admit you lied to the police about needing to go out and care for your elderly mum. In reality you just wanted to get groceries for your lunch at work, and you didn’t do that in the end.

If the police knew the reality was that you’ll be chilling at home with wine, chances are they wouldn’t have got involved.

So whilst it’s cathartic having an inconsiderate driver being towed, it just comes across as a waste of resources. Now you’ll potentially have an angry or drunk group of football fans on your doorstep, potentially requiring further police intervention. Football fans generally aren’t the most reasonable people, their initial reaction will likely be worry or rage (ie was the car stolen?)

Whilst everyone else is happy to watch on with popcorn, the truth is no one here or on the neighbourhood group chat will protect you if things go south @Parkingdrama00

Really? Someone who happily blocks someones drive whilst there is a car on it is very unlikely to be bothered by a note asking not to do it again.

It smacks of inconsiderateness and selfishness.

And getting away with it once may encourage them to do it again for someone who may have to use their car for an emergency/have a flight to catch or to get somewhere important themselves, costing the drive owner money and inconvenience.

I think the towing is 100% right

I don't think he felt bad when he blocked you in, OP.

You did the right thing!

If you were in that situation, what would you do? The car was parked illegally. Now he/she will not do it again.

CaptBirdsEar · 16/02/2025 17:16

ArtTheClown · 16/02/2025 17:16

Totally incorrect. OP was blocked in by someone parking across her dropped kerb, that is why the tow truck was sent.

Naunet · 16/02/2025 17:14

The police thought OP was caring for her elderly mother which is why they acted. OP admits that was a lie.
