To ask how to best handle this car blocking my drive?

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 14:07

I live near to a football stadium and the team are currently playing. Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in. I assume they have gone the match.

You need a residents pass to park round here and it doesn't look like they have one. Looks like I'm trapped until they come back.

What's best to do? Can I report them to the council? Leave a note? Confront them upon their return. Or is all of that pointless?

I wanted to go to the supermarket which will likely be closed by the time they're back.

You have confirmed the stadium and where you live on this thread. You admit you lied to the police about needing to go out and care for your elderly mum. In reality you just wanted to get groceries for your lunch at work, and you didn’t do that in the end.

If the police knew the reality was that you’ll be chilling at home with wine, chances are they wouldn’t have got involved.

So whilst it’s cathartic having an inconsiderate driver being towed, it just comes across as a waste of resources. Now you’ll potentially have an angry or drunk group of football fans on your doorstep, potentially requiring further police intervention. Football fans generally aren’t the most reasonable people, their initial reaction will likely be worry or rage (ie was the car stolen?)

Whilst everyone else is happy to watch on with popcorn, the truth is no one here or on the neighbourhood group chat will protect you if things go south @Parkingdrama00

Are you the driver 😂

DreamW3aver · 16/02/2025 17:03

I know what you mean, if they are away fans how will they get home, get to work tomorrow, get back to pick up the car and all the associated costs

The punishment does feel a tad harsh for the crime

Not blaming the OP, she was egged on by all the armchair combatants but I do feel some sympathy

Rubbish. The punishment totally fits the crime - a fine and/or towing are the known risks with irresponsible and illegal parking. If they don’t know this then they shouldn’t be driving. They fucked around and have found out as the saying goes. All this fuss because they might have to get to work or take kids home - did they consider the OP might have the same? Nope.

I live near somewhere which holds big events and parking like this is a pain in the arse. I’ve been prevented from getting to work, visiting sick relatives and just being able to nip to the supermarket when I bloody feel like it. Why should I be inconvenienced because some lazy idiot can’t be bothered to pay for legal parking or find anywhere else that doesn’t block me in?

Good on you OP. It feels like it doesn’t happen enough but it’s always good when the idiots get a bit of comeuppance.

So a man about 50 by himself was just walking down the street talking on his phone very animated. He did stop briefly and then turned around. Could be the culprit but he didn't knock or anything.

I do actually feel slightly bad now. I never actually thought a tow truck would turn up if I'm honest!

My Evertonian husband is thrilled!!

Anymore updates?!?!

I think I've posted this five times now. The removal company doesn't tell the driver. The driver calls the police or TRACE.

Thank you. I don’t read the whole thread for the good bits coz it’s so long

Police came out to me the other day no issues at all, and I wasn't going anywhere in a rush. Well I couldn't as I was blocked in...

SuperTrooper14 · 16/02/2025 17:17

What a ridiculous statement.

If you were in that situation, what would you do? The car was parked illegally. Now he/she will not do it again.

I wouldn’t lie to the police frankly

Highly doubt the police are following this thread and anyway regardless, even if no direct emergency, imagine if op had got a phone call with one. The CF broke the law and op was within their rights to report it. How long was she supposed to wait in for? As pp have said, the football club put towards additional policing on match days anyway.

Why do you feel bad? He clearly didn't give a shit about you when he blocked your drive to save himself a few quid so he can watch his precious pissing contest.

Wrong, they care because he's illegally parked, and if you read that post properly, you'll know OP DID want to go and do a shop for her mum.

If things go south, OP will know the culprit and he’ll be arrested for any offence he commits.

He will just dig deeper and deeper into that hole.

Its irrelevant if OP wanted to deal with her mother or buy a pot noodle, she shouldn’t have been blocked in by a selfish twat that doesn’t know the rules of the road.

MikeRafone · 16/02/2025 17:18

its private companies that tow the vehicles - not the police, that is why it was done so quickly as they make money from this type of behaviour

He will now think twice of doing it again. He didn't follow the highway code. You did nothing wrong.
What if you had had an emergency.
Well done.

In the 00s my mums neighbours and local teenagers tipped a few cars on the roofs when they did this. He wants to be glad he didn't do it near that stadium 😅

TheMeasure · 16/02/2025 17:18

@Abitofalark "It could mean a lot of different things. Think about it and your not very smart question."

Well, it's right there in the OP: "Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in," "Looks like I'm trapped until they come back."

That is what that poster was referring to so "not very smart question" was unnecessarily snarky,

Are you for real??

The car was ILLEGALLY parked blocking her in. She doesn't NEED a reason as to whether she needs to move her car or not, so that is irrelevant.

Do you have any chalk OP? Nip outside quickly and draw a giant knob in the space where his car was.

You're assuming it was a Wolves supporter. Don't they go to away matches in coaches? More likely a Liverpool fan.

I was assuming.

Samung · 16/02/2025 17:21

I should imagine that most people who park on a road that they don't know well won't remember the exact location of the car anyway. They'll head in the general direction and find their car by actually seeing it on the road.

MJconfessions · 16/02/2025 17:16

No, it wasn’t. Tow trucks are out and about in match days for this exact reason. They are a money making side of the business and want to earn money, which they earn by towing illegally parked cars when alerted by the police.
The police don’t care one bit about the OP’s reason. She didn’t have to give any reason at all. They’d have sent the tow truck no matter what.
Maybe not on a non-match day as there wouldn’t the as many trucks out working. But on a match day, it isn’t usually an issue to get one.

Wrong. The police acted because it was illegal.

The same way you could say whatever you wanted about a purse being stolen. The police won't be taking you more seriously because of your family dynamics 😂

Also - it's not that much police interaction is it. They called a tow truck, and there'll be a hefty fine/release fee which works in favour of those involved. No one is at a loss here except the driver.

I also strongly feel the tow was a great idea. Chances are this guy has done the same thing dozens of times before and expects to get away with it.

And it still makes money for the police force.

If is a money making side of it. They tow cars parked illegally, especially on a match day when they are prepared for it. Doesn’t matter if OP wanted to leave her house or not.
