To ask how to best handle this car blocking my drive?

I live near to a football stadium and the team are currently playing. Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in. I assume they have gone the match.

You need a residents pass to park round here and it doesn't look like they have one. Looks like I'm trapped until they come back.

What's best to do? Can I report them to the council? Leave a note? Confront them upon their return. Or is all of that pointless?

I wanted to go to the supermarket which will likely be closed by the time they're back.

@Parkingdrama00 good for you.

what do they leave as a sign or contact number etc? I don't think I've ever seen this happen.

They don't leave anything. If you park like a dick then you risk having the vehicle removed. You have to call the police or TRACE.

Actually, it's worse than that. 10am onwards in most of the police stations, and some only open from Tuesday on.

If it’s in a police pound there’s a form he has to obtain and complete before he can collect it, so it depends on how quick the post is in his neighbourhood !!

bunnibee · 16/02/2025 16:59

was it a range rover?????

Although it's absolutely right, I'm feeling a little sorry for them now. Who knows where they live - they could also need taxi fares in both directions, and taxi fares to the impound...I'm not near a football field, so if this happened to me it would add at least another £100 on to the bill.

I feel zero sympathy - they made a choice block someone in, without giving a shit.

They could have knocked on the door and asked.
They could have paid for parking.
Lots of options, but they decided to do whatever they wanted.

I don’t feel at all sorry for the actual driver, fuck around and find out etc. But I am hoping they don’t have young kids with them.

I sort of agree re the kids. The driver has will need to go home , retrieve proof documents and then wait for the Pound to open. It could be a long journey home!

Then it will be a lesson well and truly learnt. Take no prisoners. Have no mercy.

Bottoms up. <chinks Amaretto glass>

This is glorious. Crack that bottle open OP 🍷

Got zero sympathy whatsoever. There's ZERO excuse for parking on someone else's driveway without their permission (unless an ambulance attending emergency obviously)

I love it when a plan comes together!

They've bloody took it! I actually can't believe that has just happened. No sign of the driver as of yet but if anybody knocks I won't be answering.

Half the street was out watching, tow fellas took it no bother. Said they do it a fair bit round here on match and concert days.

That's good. At least you know if it happens again what you can do.

CaptBirdsEar · 16/02/2025 17:01

I don't feel sorry for anyone who breaks the law.

It's selfish, entitled and downright ignorant.

IWillJustSayThis · 16/02/2025 17:01

I genuinely don't understand how and why people come to the decision that it is acceptable to park in this manner. It makes no sense

Revenge. You can’t get out now regardless of whether you report it or not, just go and scratch it in an obvious way (assuming neighbours don’t have CCTV and that they can clearly see they’re blocking your drive and car) so they think twice next time. Absolutely horrible, selfish thing to do, you could have had a hospital appt or any number of urgent things to do. A&E with a vulnerable child etc. I’m not joking btw or having bravado.

I'd do it. I'd key the car.

Strictlymad · 16/02/2025 17:01

They made a selfish choice to block a drive way with a car on it. It's their own fault and they get what they deserve.

VeronicaBeccabunga · 16/02/2025 17:02

Someone watched the football match, live
They blocked up a Mumsnetter's drive
Got towed by a trucker,
That bad cheeky fucker
So Mumsnet all gave a high five.

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/02/2025 17:02

Would love it if their car passes them on their walk back 😂

Dad, isn't that car like yours on the back of that truck?

Aye son it is, bad day for someone that is. Only a couple more minutes and we'll be back to ours.

Surely anyone that does this would expect to be potentially met by a very angry homeowner on their return, surely no one would put their kids in that situation. Oh hang on. Yes, yes there are dickhead parents that would do that. Sigh. Yes, hope no kids.

And they should have thought of all of that before they parked so selfishly. They should also have thought, whilst parking across OP's driveway, "Hmmm, I wonder if that resident may need to use their car this afternoon and I'm massively inconveniencing them?" And then parked somewhere else - legally!

I know what you mean, if they are away fans how will they get home, get to work tomorrow, get back to pick up the car and all the associated costs

The punishment does feel a tad harsh for the crime

Not blaming the OP, she was egged on by all the armchair combatants but I do feel some sympathy

Oh right

I thought they'd want the money quickly so I thought they'd leave a sign with a number. Bet he gets confused about where he left the car!

Hippee · 16/02/2025 17:03

If they don't realise what has happened, they may just report the car stolen, and we'll never know ...

MonetWaterlilies · 16/02/2025 17:03

IWillJustSayThis · 16/02/2025 17:01

I genuinely don't understand how and why people come to the decision that it is acceptable to park in this manner. It makes no sense

Because they think that what they want, or what is convenient for them, is more important than what other people want.

So them 'needing' a free parking space was more important than the OP having access in and out of her drive.

Unfortunately the world is full of people like this.
