To ask how to best handle this car blocking my drive?

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 14:07

I live near to a football stadium and the team are currently playing. Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in. I assume they have gone the match.

You need a residents pass to park round here and it doesn't look like they have one. Looks like I'm trapped until they come back.

What's best to do? Can I report them to the council? Leave a note? Confront them upon their return. Or is all of that pointless?

I wanted to go to the supermarket which will likely be closed by the time they're back.

I'd go and put your own car there OP

He'd think he's on the wrong road completely!

TheLionandAlbert · 16/02/2025 16:51

Just go and scratch it in an obvious way (assuming neighbours don’t have CCTV and that they can clearly see they’re blocking your drive and car) so they think twice next time

Jesus. There are some complete morons on here.

Anyway. Well done OP, for going through proper channels, ignoring lowlifes like this one, and getting a result.

Going on balance of probability

Exactly, cheeky fuck, football fan

I'm hoping he's a Wolves fan and starts wondering if he parked in a different street.

Just realised that I'm assuming the driver is male - we don't know, do we?

We don't, but I reckon we'd all prepared to bet good money that it is. 😉

Bananaram · 16/02/2025 16:53

Eagerly awaiting the OPs update when the car wanker comes back and finds their car is gone 🍿

Jewelanemone · 16/02/2025 16:53

Very late to the party but I've quickly read the whole thread - bloody well done OP!

I'm very excited about the next installment! 🤗

I think you're right! Excellent plot twist 😂

Actually, it's worse than that. 10am onwards in most of the police stations, and some only open from Tuesday on.

I'd be upstairs hovering by the window with a picnic if this was me! 🤣

JSMill · 16/02/2025 16:54

I actually wonder if the driver has gone to the Op's house, found his car isn't there and is now wandering the streets looking for it.

I’m pretty sure you can only collect towed vehicles between Monday and Fridays as well. Usually 9am onwards. So no car for them tonight. 😉

Oh I'd missed that little gem!

I wonder how much it will cost the driver to get it back? I hope it’s significantly more than the £20 cost of using the car park, or the silly bastard won’t learn anything.

Depending on how quickly he claims the car it could be up to £700. He has to claim it within 7 days or risk it being scrapped or sold along with the contents !! He’ll have to wait for form 3708 to come by post as he has to complete this and take it with him, along with his driving licence, proof of ownership and proof of insurance. The other good news is that standard car insurance specifically excludes cars being released from a police pound, so he’ll have to contact a specialist insurance company for cover. Hope he enjoyed the match - methinks it’ll be his last for a while ||!!

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 16/02/2025 16:55

Don't blame you for not posting a photo. I feel a bit responsible for the location outing sorry.

Thanks for the laughs though , had 25 years of parking issues at my parents and been passed from pillar to post until I learnt the law. Still couldn't get anything done so I'm glad some areas do actually deal with it.

Been in fits of laughter reading the thread, lesson is park legally. It's a nice long walk into the city centre.

A picnic and that bottle of red! 👀

Turbo4 · 16/02/2025 16:55

Will they have the nerve to knock and ask where their car is that they parked across your drive hours ago?! 🤔

MikeRafone · 16/02/2025 16:56

friend of mine had her car stolen and it was recovered in this manner - though not blocking a drive. It cost my friend £300 for the recovery of her vehicle, so this driver is going to wish they had paid £20 to park the car as now they will need to get a lift or uber to the command and the pay for the recovery to get the vehicle back

Rosscameasdoody · 16/02/2025 16:56

Emptyflames · 16/02/2025 16:46

It could mean OP was unable to get on to her driveway

It is not illegal to block an empty driveway. It is an important distinction.

HTH

It’s illegal to block any driveway which has a dropped kerb, regardless of whether there’s a car on it or not.

This situation definitely calls for snacks.

I've cracked open the Amaretto. I don't need snacks right now but this feels strangely like a reason to celebrate.

Lougle · 16/02/2025 16:57

Although it's absolutely right, I'm feeling a little sorry for them now. Who knows where they live - they could also need taxi fares in both directions, and taxi fares to the impound...I'm not near a football field, so if this happened to me it would add at least another £100 on to the bill.

EmeraldRoulette · 16/02/2025 16:57

@Parkingdrama00 good for you.

what do they leave as a sign or contact number etc? I don't think I've ever seen this happen.

Bollindger · 16/02/2025 16:57

Was the car expensive.?

jellyfishperiwinkle · 16/02/2025 16:58

DreamW3aver · 16/02/2025 16:43

My neighbours would totally be watching if that was posted in the WhatsApp group. The children would love to see it

But maybe our lives are all dull compared to yours 😁

It's Sunday. I would hope it is a slow day for most people.

I don’t feel at all sorry for the actual driver, fuck around and find out etc. But I am hoping they don’t have young kids with them.
