To think Trump might be the right Leader for right now?

Theemeperorsnewclothes · 12/02/2025 23:25

I am so confused why I am starting to think that Trump might be a good thing right now. I do think he is making the right moves to end conflict right now, which of course can only be a good thing for the poor people suffering in war zones but I’m so conflicted. I was trying to search for why I felt this way and what past war and future war situations might mean with Trump at the helm. Below are notes to myself. I know you educated, worldly wise mums will absolutely be able to educate on what I am missing. I am genuinely interested to hear your perspectives.

Why do wars start?
War is caused by many different things, including competition over land, religious conflicts, and nationalism. Imperialism, racism, and slavery have also been causes of armed conflict.
Why do wars end?
Realistically, wars usually end when one side wins or the parties experience significant war weariness. Thus, World War I was only a temporary end-of-war because there was no clear-cut victory.
We need to put an end to why wars start, not why wars end. Too much devastation and destruction and loss of life when a war starts. In this case, like the war in Gaza there has been no clear “winner” there has been constant and significant “war weariness” but some other country/political party/religious group steps in. However, there is still never a “clear-cut victory”
Tackle the issues that START wars and not STOP wars in the first place. A true leader will make their priority tackling all the issues that start wars. Trump needs to prove himself in this approach.
That said, we are in a very volatile world and ENDING wars is the first priority. Trump appears to have that in his sights. I say this as far left viewer of the world, as opposed to the right take on the world, as it is today.
I don’t care if you are left or right or somewhere in between. War must end now and we must have a leader who can figure out how to stop it happening again. The end. The Leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place, is the one who can save humanity. Right now, we need the wars to end, and like it or not, that is the position we find ourselves in, and that’s why, I currently think it might be Trump.

Anyone have any idea who is the leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place? I’m thinking they would need to be free from corruption and probably not an egotistical, power hungry male.

End of my rant 😁.

"While the conflict with Russia heats up in the east, life for most Ukrainians is marred by corruption so endemic that even hospitals appear to be infected. Can anyone clean the country up?"

a quote from the guardian article

Under Yanukovich.

The one who ran away to Russia

You'll need to try a bit harder

@StrikeAlways people can be extremely highly educated and hold different views to you.

Ukraine-, The most corrupt country in Europe when War broke out.
Money is being laundered through it . Great little system going for the elite.
Oh but wait. People are dying .let's keep it going !!! great little earner.
Not my flag.not my problem No one in my family is willing to die for a country that is nor theirs but Keir wants boots on the ground. Send his family first then

Oh dear.

I don't think any of this is true. Any of it.

You missed out that I also said ‘a leader who will keep the peace’.

War has collateral damage sadly. It’s happened throughout history, nothing new. If I had my way, Putin would have been taken out years ago and all world leaders would rule in peace and uncorrupted democracy but I am inconsequential in the great scheme of things.

Would you rather a full on war in Europe with millions more killed, living in a state of war for years, your kids being sent to fight and nukes being bandied about?

Choose your poison.

How dare you call me immoral btw!

If you genuinely think that Trump sidelining NATO, cutting Russia-friendly "deals" and signaling that the US is now unwilling to defend a (vulerable) Europe is likely to secure peace on the continent, then I think you're completely failing to grasp the situation.

Trump is hugely increasing the risk of "full on war" in Europe - why do you think European leaders are so gravely concerned?

You are cheering ethnic cleansing in Gaza (which, I expect, would ultimately escalate conflict in the ME) and the destabilizing of Europe, by a man who is threatening to invade of otherwise overthrow various other peaceful nations.

I assume that you're an American who is getting off on the whole thing but, do us a favour, and don't insult our intelligence by pretending that you value peace.

The world has, because of Trump and those who elected him, now become a far more dangerous and volatile place.

Crikeyalmighty · 19/02/2025 23:31

@OneLemonDog couldn't agree more-

Oh FFS! You could have a string of PhDs and it would still be screamingly obvious that you need to be better informed about these issues!

Nope, I am Masters educated. Love my job. Enjoy looking to expand my knowledge of current issues that are not my area of expertise and do this through trying to gain insight of popular opinion/thoughts. I hate social media but I do like asking for opinions on other platforms. Why are you so angry? It’s as if this forum gives ‘browny points’ to those who can be as nasty and aggressive as possible? What do you gain from this? Anyway, thanks everyone for your input. I genuinely try to make informed decisions from every response and challenge myself on wrongly held beliefs.

Says you who deflected answering my last two questions in that post.

Interested to hear your opinions.

I didn't deflect anything. You posted in support of ethnic cleansing, then denied you supported ethnic cleaning (then, seemingly, admitted that you support it after all).

I never professed to have the solution to the conflict and, though I think Trump's plan is illegal, immoral and would only serve to further destabilize the region, I'm not about to provide you a thesis on the best means of resolving the conflict, on demand.

Crikeyalmighty · 19/02/2025 23:35

I doubt USA would be quite so keen on just capitulating if it was the USA that had been invaded - I mean Putin might think why not just go after Finland or Latvia- what's Trumps response then - 'hey, just have it ' - ??

Evidently. The Danes told him to fuck off and I don't think the Canadians will be so diplomatic.

nah that's just what we tell ourselves to make ourselves feel better when someone has more power than us

I don’t feel the need to insult anyone’s intelligence unlike certain posters on here.

I am very happy to respond to that very well thought out post when you respond to mine.

Don’t why you’d think I was an American btw. Isn’t that rather xenophobic?

well the guardian confirms Ukraine was corrupt when war was heating up so id say that part was true

SassK · 19/02/2025 23:42

Trump is doing what he was, essentially, elected for - putting the interests and opportunities of the American people first.

The world and all it's complexity will always present us with heart and head scenarios. However. There will be plenty of people in the UK (people who are struggling to pay for a week's groceries, and looking at our piss poor, and declining, public 'services'), and people in Europe too, looking on enviously at the unabashed pro America manner of Trump's leadership.

maybe those with power operate with a different set of views that the general public may think is omg , but is part of realpolitik strategies etc ?
