To think Trump might be the right Leader for right now?

Theemeperorsnewclothes · 12/02/2025 23:25

I am so confused why I am starting to think that Trump might be a good thing right now. I do think he is making the right moves to end conflict right now, which of course can only be a good thing for the poor people suffering in war zones but I’m so conflicted. I was trying to search for why I felt this way and what past war and future war situations might mean with Trump at the helm. Below are notes to myself. I know you educated, worldly wise mums will absolutely be able to educate on what I am missing. I am genuinely interested to hear your perspectives.

Why do wars start?
War is caused by many different things, including competition over land, religious conflicts, and nationalism. Imperialism, racism, and slavery have also been causes of armed conflict.
Why do wars end?
Realistically, wars usually end when one side wins or the parties experience significant war weariness. Thus, World War I was only a temporary end-of-war because there was no clear-cut victory.
We need to put an end to why wars start, not why wars end. Too much devastation and destruction and loss of life when a war starts. In this case, like the war in Gaza there has been no clear “winner” there has been constant and significant “war weariness” but some other country/political party/religious group steps in. However, there is still never a “clear-cut victory”
Tackle the issues that START wars and not STOP wars in the first place. A true leader will make their priority tackling all the issues that start wars. Trump needs to prove himself in this approach.
That said, we are in a very volatile world and ENDING wars is the first priority. Trump appears to have that in his sights. I say this as far left viewer of the world, as opposed to the right take on the world, as it is today.
I don’t care if you are left or right or somewhere in between. War must end now and we must have a leader who can figure out how to stop it happening again. The end. The Leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place, is the one who can save humanity. Right now, we need the wars to end, and like it or not, that is the position we find ourselves in, and that’s why, I currently think it might be Trump.

Anyone have any idea who is the leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place? I’m thinking they would need to be free from corruption and probably not an egotistical, power hungry male.

End of my rant 😁.

Slava Ukraini

but at what cost, if the whole country gets ruined then its a Pyrrhic victory

I’m not attacking you, I am stating an opinion, that the views you put forward here strongly suggest you lack education. Have you failed to notice how many posters share my opinion. The points you make in your posts are obtuse. The only one you have shown any incite in is the one where Trump got your attention by saying something that made you worry that your own children could end up fighting in a war.

Do you feel really powerful to have written that post and now rubbing your hands together at how humbled I must feel? How much I am reflecting on my lack of education and how I must do better? How so many posters share your opinion and what a wonderful mumsnet despot you must be? Just as a wee FYI you never know what’s going on in someone’s life. Posting on a platform and just looking to find answers/educate themselves can be just that, nothing more. The abuse from posters like yourself are unwarranted and unnecessary, and expose you for what you are. There is never an excuse to personally attack an individual.

@Aria999 I'm listening to him talk tonight- yep still sounds like a waffling buffoon to me - the only way he is smart is he realises there are plenty who believe any old shit

but the irony is if people then underestimate trump because they think he is dumb based on his personality

OneLemonDog · 19/02/2025 23:04

I think people would also do well to consider that Trump's ethnic cleansing plan would result in a sizeable ethnic Palestinian majority in Jordan.

The Jordan monarchy are well aware that this could see them overthrown.

So, then we'd have a much more powerful state, comprised largely of ethnic Palestinians who would - presumably - be further radicalized by being the victims of ethnic cleansing.

Jordan borders Israel.

Does this sound like a well thought-out peace plan to anyone?

I am shocked at the developments from Trump to distance himself from the UK. When I started this post, I thought he was somewhat of a loose cannon, divisive, but potentially someone who was going to ‘pull rank’ with all the problematic nations. His curve ball of leaving the UK and Ukraine to side with Russia is truly terrifying, particularly if you have family members of conscription age. The UK have ridiculously weak leaders to deal with the hell that is coming our way. Never in my lifetime did I think I’d be worrying about my children serving in a world war.

It’s not a curveball. He’s been telling us who he is since the last time he was in power. This was the only stance he was ever going to take.

Granted I don’t think we were expecting quite the deranged rambling on truth social we got this afternoon but that he’s Russia’s man (for whatever reason) has always been obvious.

correction history will show who is correct in their views or not, just because some think the obvious is the truth does not make it the truth, history will show what will be then its upto those who thought x to either concede they were wrong or the other side to say they were right or even both sides have their points both partly proven correct or wrong etc

History belongs to the Victor's. They will write how they see. I will happily take facts:

Putin and Russia illegally invaded Ukraine.
Ukraine defended themselves.
Russia is free to go back to it's borders at any time and end the war immediately.

As truth over it's Ukraines fault Russia invaded because as a free and independent country it wanted to exist.

I am happy, that I am on the right side of history in this, it's not difficult to understand and I don't have to tie myself in knots to change my view depending on Putin/Trump/MAGA latest justification.

@Pokadotspink

Are you genuinely arguing that all governments are exactly the same as each other? Fascist autocracies are only doing what democratic centrists would do if they had a chance?

Is this where we are now?

OneLemonDog · 19/02/2025 23:11

OP, I have not been among those to personally attack you, but you made an incredibly inflammatory post (that you yourself described as a rant) from a position of relevant ignorance, on matters concerning life, death, ethnic cleansing and the rights of sovereign states to exist.

I think then pivoting to require everyone to "be nice" is unreasonable in the circumstances.

HaveYouTrumped · 19/02/2025 23:12

@StrikeAlways the most educated people will always take any side they want because of bias.

Being educated or not educated for taking a side is an uneducated argument.

What I’m noticing here is that you have completely lost the debate, so are now responding by playing the victim to those who disagree with you and suggest you should inform yourself.

history can be shaped by the victors, but that doesn’t mean it’s always accurate or final, especially with todays modern media

HaveYouTrumped · 19/02/2025 23:14

@StrikeAlways piling on a poster doesn't mean they have lost esp on here.
The same subject line gets a different response on what ever day or time it's posted.

It's good op had the courage to post right now because it's crucial we can have these debates to me.

@UberEater
"Hopefully a win for Ukrainians in that there will be no more killing"

A win for Ukrainians that vast numbers of them will now be living in a Russian dictatorship and having to kowtow to a dangerous murderer who kidnapped their children and destroyed their schools and hospitals?

Have you always been completely amoral, or has your enthusiasm for Trump done something disastrous to your moral compass?

You missed out that I also said ‘a leader who will keep the peace’.

War has collateral damage sadly. It’s happened throughout history, nothing new. If I had my way, Putin would have been taken out years ago and all world leaders would rule in peace and uncorrupted democracy but I am inconsequential in the great scheme of things.

Would you rather a full on war in Europe with millions more killed, living in a state of war for years, your kids being sent to fight and nukes being bandied about?

Choose your poison.

How dare you call me immoral btw!

To claim that democratically elected leaders would act like fascist autocrats if given the chance is a huge over generalization and fails to account for the differences in values and systems between democracy and authoritarianism.

HaveYouTrumped · 19/02/2025 23:17

@StrikeAlways would you suggest someone does that in a pub or cafe face to face?
This is a chat forum and chat on trump recently has been frighteningly quiet.

That's a long and deflective way of saying "Yes, I support ethnic cleansing" but well done for (sort of) owning it, I guess.

Says you who deflected answering my last two questions in that post.

Interested to hear your opinions.

HaveYouTrumped · 19/02/2025 23:20

Well there are always more perspectives than the one we hold and being so patronising and superior I would be carful saying tings like that

Oh FFS! You could have a string of PhDs and it would still be screamingly obvious that you need to be better informed about these issues!
