To think Trump might be the right Leader for right now?

Theemeperorsnewclothes · 12/02/2025 23:25

I am so confused why I am starting to think that Trump might be a good thing right now. I do think he is making the right moves to end conflict right now, which of course can only be a good thing for the poor people suffering in war zones but I’m so conflicted. I was trying to search for why I felt this way and what past war and future war situations might mean with Trump at the helm. Below are notes to myself. I know you educated, worldly wise mums will absolutely be able to educate on what I am missing. I am genuinely interested to hear your perspectives.

Why do wars start?
War is caused by many different things, including competition over land, religious conflicts, and nationalism. Imperialism, racism, and slavery have also been causes of armed conflict.
Why do wars end?
Realistically, wars usually end when one side wins or the parties experience significant war weariness. Thus, World War I was only a temporary end-of-war because there was no clear-cut victory.
We need to put an end to why wars start, not why wars end. Too much devastation and destruction and loss of life when a war starts. In this case, like the war in Gaza there has been no clear “winner” there has been constant and significant “war weariness” but some other country/political party/religious group steps in. However, there is still never a “clear-cut victory”
Tackle the issues that START wars and not STOP wars in the first place. A true leader will make their priority tackling all the issues that start wars. Trump needs to prove himself in this approach.
That said, we are in a very volatile world and ENDING wars is the first priority. Trump appears to have that in his sights. I say this as far left viewer of the world, as opposed to the right take on the world, as it is today.
I don’t care if you are left or right or somewhere in between. War must end now and we must have a leader who can figure out how to stop it happening again. The end. The Leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place, is the one who can save humanity. Right now, we need the wars to end, and like it or not, that is the position we find ourselves in, and that’s why, I currently think it might be Trump.

Anyone have any idea who is the leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place? I’m thinking they would need to be free from corruption and probably not an egotistical, power hungry male.

End of my rant 😁.

I'm pretty sure Trump is not trying to end the Ukraine/Russian war out of the goodness of his own heart. He will be gaining something from this for sure!

On this basis, we shouldn’t end war because people we dislike might gain something from it?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 13/02/2025 00:10

BeGoldHedgehog · 13/02/2025 00:05

Or they should continue at all cost if you don't bear any of that cost yourself.

Well, yes, but literally nobody is making that argument.

MarsScarlet · 13/02/2025 00:12

@whatawonderfultime

they are definitely leaning more toward it than they once were.

however I think it's a smart move to allow land concessions but have NATO membership to prevent further invasions.

Apparently, as of today, NATO membership is off the table.

Hegseth & cronies are at NATO today.

Of course I don’t think Trump is the man to bring peace to the world. That’s why I said, I think he is the man to bring peace to the world right now, but value the opinion of others around why I feel like this, and hope for a better solution going forward.

Back tracking bollocks.

Well yes. Putin will gain another chunk of a sovereign country and be further emboldened.

Schnauzersaremyheros · 13/02/2025 00:14

@Hamletscigar That is not what I'm saying. I believe Trump has nefarious intentions on this situation, and I don't think it will be a happy outcome for the Ukrainians.

I think a lot of people are actually, based on an ideology.

HellNoWay · 12/02/2025 23:33

No.

I am so angry with Trump I could explode. The Palestinian people have endured years and years of being systematically removed from their land. They've experienced multiple wars and for the last 15 months Palestinians living in gaza have been bombed, traumatised, had all their schools blown to bits, loved ones murdered, hospitals destroyed, infrastructure destroyed, and every single person in gaza has been utterly traumatised.

Now Trump is coming along telling them he not only agrees with their ethnic cleansing, but that he wants to steal their land himself and turn it into some kind of play thing, some real estate opportunity. How dare he. How fucking dare he.

After all they've been through.

I can't stand the evil psychopathic monster.

Honestly I hate the man.

As if Netenyahu wasn't bad enough.

Evil greedy men with power make me feel sick to my stomach. Where the fuck is his humanity. Where?

Well said.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/02/2025 00:15

He is 'brokering peace deals' by telling the weaker side that he's with the strongest.

He would, without a shadow of doubt in my mind, have been friends with Hitler and Mussolini.

TaggieO · 12/02/2025 23:57

I mean, the man is literally a nazi. He’s spouting Hitler ideology left, right and centre. Did you think the Nazis were a good idea? No? Then have some common sense for fucks sake.

I do have some common sense and that’s why I am asking for different perspectives. I am not convinced Donald Trump is a “Nazi” but I am keen to understand others thoughts.

Anyone with the slightest bit of common sense would not have started this thread.

He's brokering deals that mean Ukraine will have to give up land to Russian invaders and Palestinians leave Gaza.

Anyone could have done that... they are unconscionable deals.

I don't really think there was ever any other outcome with Ukraine.

And increasingly I suspect that there is no possible outcome in the Middle East that includes Palestine and Israel.

People can not like these things, but that doesn't really tell us they are untrue. It sometimes seems to me that people are willing to forgo an workable solution, including in Ukraine, because it makes them feel better to wait for an ideal, impossible, solution. But that doesn't actually serve the Ukrainians.

ARealitycheck · 13/02/2025 00:20

As I've said in similar threads. We have had decades of movement towards far left wing politics and those with centric views being pilloried as right wing. Not listening to the population is dangerous and results in polarised people.

I'm sure many of us have listened to some of the things Farage has said and thought, bloody right. But just like Donald of Orange in America, he says a lot of nonsense too.

All Countries should be doing their best for their population long before anywhere else. Given the state the UK, Europe and I imagine the USA is in, working for our own good and closing down non genuine asylum claims is imperative.

Nope, lacks the depth and the warmth.

I'm pretty sure any peace deal will involve the Ukrainians being made to give up the land that Russia invaded and took by force. Which will delight Putin and possibly encourage him to try the same again. So not really a brilliant outcome.

given the military might of russia, that would likely happen either way

Unfortunately we have no choice. We have to, and we need to look at ways to make it work for us, the UK in a positive way. Calling him a cunt is not going to achieve that.

EconomyClassRockstar · 13/02/2025 00:26

It's because of the media you're reading. Try reading other sources.

I'm a Dem voting (British) American and I'm a bit bored of the whole he's a Nazi nonsense as that's just fueling the Trump hyperbole. I am also VERY over my very wealthy, liberal, middle aged, supposedly deeply educated, white female friends sharing very obvious misinformation, while they wring their hands and worry about their rights. Their complete inability to recognize their privilege in what they post is astounding.

That said, I But I do think that Trump is an absolute disaster for this country. I hope I'm proven wrong, I really do. But all Im seeing is a bunch of billionaires running us all, full steam, into a recession and a potential human rights nightmare and the only people who will benefit are the billionaires. It's no wonder so many of them looked so happy at the inauguration.
