To think Trump might be the right Leader for right now?

Theemeperorsnewclothes · 12/02/2025 23:25

I am so confused why I am starting to think that Trump might be a good thing right now. I do think he is making the right moves to end conflict right now, which of course can only be a good thing for the poor people suffering in war zones but I’m so conflicted. I was trying to search for why I felt this way and what past war and future war situations might mean with Trump at the helm. Below are notes to myself. I know you educated, worldly wise mums will absolutely be able to educate on what I am missing. I am genuinely interested to hear your perspectives.

Why do wars start?
War is caused by many different things, including competition over land, religious conflicts, and nationalism. Imperialism, racism, and slavery have also been causes of armed conflict.
Why do wars end?
Realistically, wars usually end when one side wins or the parties experience significant war weariness. Thus, World War I was only a temporary end-of-war because there was no clear-cut victory.
We need to put an end to why wars start, not why wars end. Too much devastation and destruction and loss of life when a war starts. In this case, like the war in Gaza there has been no clear “winner” there has been constant and significant “war weariness” but some other country/political party/religious group steps in. However, there is still never a “clear-cut victory”
Tackle the issues that START wars and not STOP wars in the first place. A true leader will make their priority tackling all the issues that start wars. Trump needs to prove himself in this approach.
That said, we are in a very volatile world and ENDING wars is the first priority. Trump appears to have that in his sights. I say this as far left viewer of the world, as opposed to the right take on the world, as it is today.
I don’t care if you are left or right or somewhere in between. War must end now and we must have a leader who can figure out how to stop it happening again. The end. The Leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place, is the one who can save humanity. Right now, we need the wars to end, and like it or not, that is the position we find ourselves in, and that’s why, I currently think it might be Trump.

Anyone have any idea who is the leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place? I’m thinking they would need to be free from corruption and probably not an egotistical, power hungry male.

End of my rant 😁.

@AgnesX does he want to stop those?

He wants to stop Israel and gaza/Russia and Ukraine because the USA is funding them?
They don't want too.

That funding has already been committed. Sure he could pull the plug, that'll certainly give him what he wants. It won't give him the peacemaker kudos he's looking for though.

It wasn’t. But I’m loving that it’s three days later and people are still struggling to understand how someone can have a different opinion to them. It’s one of the big reasons the Democrats lost btw. And apparently will be why they will continue to lose a while longer.

Unfortunately, I think there will always be wars. Maybe Trump will stop current ones but it seems more likely to me that he'll cause division and stir up hatred (which he's done already) and that can only be a bad thing. One of the major causes of war is belligerent, arrogant men throwing their weight about, of which Trump is a prime example.

Margaret Thatcher, The Falklands?

Can't you, or the thread's ChatGPT enthusiast, perceive the difference between "one of the major causes of war..." and "every single war is caused by..."?

If Canada becomes part of America will it just be one state or will each province become it's own state?

Canada will never become a US state. Why would we want a lesser quality of life? We’re now referring to the US as the Southern Canadian province!
We have our own constitution, charter of freedom and rights including protections for our different languages.

Unfortunately in the case of Putin, Netanyahu and Hamas, I think it takes one to know one. Trump is so unstable and reactionary that they are all running scared because they know he doesn't care about rules, or even what will happen in a years time so it could possibly force all sides to come to a resolution.
I think the real damage is being done by Musk in the US. He is basically stripping government departments, and harvesting data for himself with no one to stop him. He says he asks Trump if he is doing what Trump wants, but Trump doesn't think. He comes up with hairbrained schemes that other people have to backtrack on. Well, no one can control Musk.

There is there is an appearance of chaos in America right now which suits the currentleader's agenda. The executive orders are a distraction to what's actually going on. There has been so many things happen in the last two weeks that it has been difficult to keep up with firstly the non-vaccination agenda is being pushed and there are high rates of measles and the flu across the country. California water from the dams has been released. All these talks of tariffs are a distraction he's going to need to blame other countries for inflation.

The only positive thing is we are now starting to choose a side European will always be European and the fact that we are joining the Council tomorrow is the best news I've heard in years. We need to have a voice at the table like we did for the last decade.

We are not seeing reports with the mass demonstrations which are going on in the cities across America.

HaveYouTrumped · 16/02/2025 09:56

@littlebilliie what table and council?. If macron has invited us it's because we have been a major player in supporting Ukraine with arms

Liz1tummypain · 16/02/2025 10:06

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/02/2025 17:35

It depends on who you are @Theemeperorsnewclothes. If you are Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong Un or Elon Musk, then Trump is definitely the right leader for right now for you.

He's a fucking disaster for everyone else.

exactly this - he is very adept at creating a hailstorm of chaos to disrupt public discussion and remove media focus from planned actions
A purposefully glib comment about redeveloping the west bank is designed to provoke outrage, massive public engagement and "rage bait" while his other actions go ahead with less scrutiny. Its a cynical gameplan that is unfortunately working exactly as designed

Wowzers. On top of Trump firing air traffic controllers, Musk is being given access to the personal information and associated banking data of every American taxpayer.

This is disturbing stuff. If I was American I’d be looking at every which way to emigrate.

Adn Joan of Arc is a national heroine of France. She was a peasant girl who, believing that she was acting under divine guidance, led the French army in a momentous victory at Orléans in 1429 that repulsed an English attempt to conquer France during the Hundred Years' War.

Politico London Playbook:

The Telegraph’s Ambrose Evans-Pritchard has seen a leaked draft contract from the U.S. that not only demands £400 billion in minerals but covers ports, other infrastructure and oil and gas.

The world economy editor describes the proposals as amounting to “the U.S. economic colonisation of Ukraine, in legal perpetuity,” which would require Ukraine to give up a bigger share of its GDP than the reparations imposed on Germany at Versailles.

What are you trying to prove?

HaveYouTrumped · 18/02/2025 14:00

If America wants something to do with ports that surely means it will be a much stronger presence in the region?

Surely that's a good thing.
Nato as we have found out this week is just the USA so does it matter if Ukraine isn't in nato if USA has a large presence in the country.

Today feels like a massive de escalation of war

Serpentstooth · 18/02/2025 15:04

That's just blackmail, great for US voters to have handed their country over to Goodfellas. I presume Elons busy dismantling the FBI, wouldn't want a conflict of interest.

Unfortunately, Lefties do understand why the far right support fascist coups.

We're around Spring 1938 right now. Trump is letting his mate dismantle democracy (such as it was in the States) and everyone on your 'side' is cheering him on. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Crikeyalmighty · 18/02/2025 15:30

@MrsTerryPratchett indeed. I'm just left of centre and I don't remotely support Hamas either - why do posters who love to refer to anyone who isn't a supporter of the Tory's or Reform as 'lefty's' presume we all actually support Hamas -?? - many just tried to show support for the Palestinian people. large amounts of the Palestinian population didn't support Hamas actions too - there was only ever 1 vote in 2006 and then they just 'took over' - it's like Farage taking over in 2028 say and 'presuming' the whole of Britain supports him for ever more as he's 'stopped' elections etc
