To think Trump might be the right Leader for right now?

Theemeperorsnewclothes · 12/02/2025 23:25

I am so confused why I am starting to think that Trump might be a good thing right now. I do think he is making the right moves to end conflict right now, which of course can only be a good thing for the poor people suffering in war zones but I’m so conflicted. I was trying to search for why I felt this way and what past war and future war situations might mean with Trump at the helm. Below are notes to myself. I know you educated, worldly wise mums will absolutely be able to educate on what I am missing. I am genuinely interested to hear your perspectives.

Why do wars start?
War is caused by many different things, including competition over land, religious conflicts, and nationalism. Imperialism, racism, and slavery have also been causes of armed conflict.
Why do wars end?
Realistically, wars usually end when one side wins or the parties experience significant war weariness. Thus, World War I was only a temporary end-of-war because there was no clear-cut victory.
We need to put an end to why wars start, not why wars end. Too much devastation and destruction and loss of life when a war starts. In this case, like the war in Gaza there has been no clear “winner” there has been constant and significant “war weariness” but some other country/political party/religious group steps in. However, there is still never a “clear-cut victory”
Tackle the issues that START wars and not STOP wars in the first place. A true leader will make their priority tackling all the issues that start wars. Trump needs to prove himself in this approach.
That said, we are in a very volatile world and ENDING wars is the first priority. Trump appears to have that in his sights. I say this as far left viewer of the world, as opposed to the right take on the world, as it is today.
I don’t care if you are left or right or somewhere in between. War must end now and we must have a leader who can figure out how to stop it happening again. The end. The Leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place, is the one who can save humanity. Right now, we need the wars to end, and like it or not, that is the position we find ourselves in, and that’s why, I currently think it might be Trump.

Anyone have any idea who is the leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place? I’m thinking they would need to be free from corruption and probably not an egotistical, power hungry male.

End of my rant 😁.

I expect most voting have TDS.

CBA reading the grumbling on this thread suffice to say he’s got the highest approval ratings in the first three weeks of being in office and has achieved more than Biden did in 4 years already.

This new administration are pretty slick, working fast and as one team. Promises made, promises kept.

Yes, they are slick at starting to undermine the civil rights act, to remove experienced workers from their federal jobs, to create a narrative that only white men are worthy of their jobs, every other employee is a dei hires. Very impressive.

His approval ratings since taking office last month have been some of HIS highest ever, but they are still incredibly low.

Even Biden, who was another very unpopular president, had +18% net approval at this stage of his presidency. Trump is current at about +3.5% and steadily dropping.

Total bollocks.

Ukraine is a sovereign state invaded by Putin.

The end

Can you explain to me how the statement:

"Ukraine is a sovereign state invaded by Putin."

Which appears to be your entire argument, renders any part of my comment to be "total bollocks"? Because I cannot see the connection, let alone any kind of logic.

I completely understand where you are coming from. However this “orange psychopath” appears to be brokering peace deals for now. But only for now.

These aren’t peace deals. It’s bullying the weak side to appease the strong. No lasting peace will come from these games, only decades of human misery. Don’t buy into that.

Since January 2025, President Donald Trump has intensified efforts to reshape U.S. foreign policy toward Russia, focusing on nuclear arms control, trade realignment, and resolving the Ukraine conflict.

Nuclear Arms Control Initiatives
On February 13, 2025, President Trump expressed his intention to renew nuclear arms control discussions with Russia and China. He criticized the extensive financial investments in nuclear arsenals, emphasizing their redundancy and potential for global destruction. Trump proposed initiating talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping to achieve significant reductions in defense spending, aiming to cut expenditures by half for all three nations. He highlighted the urgency of these discussions, noting that China could match the nuclear capabilities of the U.S. and Russia within five to six years, posing a global threat. These proposed negotiations are envisioned to follow the resolution of conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Trade Policy Adjustments
In a move to address perceived trade imbalances, President Trump signed a measure to increase U.S. import tariffs to match the rates that other countries impose. This decision, announced on February 13, 2025, is intended to rectify what Trump describes as unfair trade practices. The measure risks economic growth and inflation if other nations retaliate. Additionally, Trump discussed potential negotiations with Russia and Ukraine to end the ongoing conflict, without committing to specific conditions for Russia. These actions reflect a broader strategy to leverage economic tools in foreign policy, including in dealings with Russia.

Ukraine Conflict Resolution Efforts
President Trump has signaled a departure from previous U.S. policy by favoring negotiations with Russia over continued military support for Ukraine. On February 12, 2025, he held a "lengthy and highly productive phone call" with President Putin, marking the start of negotiations to end the war. Following this conversation, Trump announced an agreement to begin immediate negotiations to end military action in Ukraine, with both sides expressing their intention to work closely to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Subsequently, Trump instructed key officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, to lead the peace negotiations. These developments indicate a significant shift in U.S. strategy, emphasizing direct engagement with Russia to resolve the conflict.

In summary, since January 2025, President Trump's strategy toward Russia has focused on reducing military expenditures through renewed arms control agreements, realigning trade policies to address perceived imbalances, and seeking a negotiated settlement to the Ukraine conflict through direct engagement with Russian leadership. This approach reflects a desire to stabilize U.S.-Russia relations and shift security responsibilities, particularly in Europe.

No.

I am so angry with Trump I could explode. The Palestinian people have endured years and years of being systematically removed from their land. They've experienced multiple wars and for the last 15 months Palestinians living in gaza have been bombed, traumatised, had all their schools blown to bits, loved ones murdered, hospitals destroyed, infrastructure destroyed, and every single person in gaza has been utterly traumatised.

Now Trump is coming along telling them he not only agrees with their ethnic cleansing, but that he wants to steal their land himself and turn it into some kind of play thing, some real estate opportunity. How dare he. How fucking dare he.

After all they've been through.

I can't stand the evil psychopathic monster.

Honestly I hate the man.

As if Netenyahu wasn't bad enough.

Evil greedy men with power make me feel sick to my stomach. Where the fuck is his humanity. Where?

Do kidnappers and child murderers make you equally mad? Only you failed to acknowledge that? The war wasn’t a land grab, it was retribution for a massacre, destabilising Hamas, a terrorist organisation (one im sure you wouldn’t want to be neighbours with)

🗳️ “The Ballot and the Circus” 🗳️

"Elections come and go, but let’s be honest—most people vote the same way they watch reality TV. It’s about the drama, the personalities, and who ‘feels’ right. But politics isn’t a popularity contest—it’s about who holds the pen when the rules get written."

"You see, politicians don’t fear low turnout. They love it. A distracted voter is a predictable voter. They count on you knowing more about a football manager’s strategy than a Prime Minister’s policy. They bank on you scrolling past the budget but stopping for the scandal."

"But imagine if that changed. Imagine if people grilled their MPs the way they grill a dodgy builder. Imagine if a candidate’s voting record got the same scrutiny as a celebrity’s Instagram. Imagine if we read manifestos with the same care we read food labels for our kids."

"Because here’s the truth: If you really know how a politician thinks, you can see every move before they make it. And that? That’s power."

"So, before the next election, ask yourself: Are you choosing a leader... or falling for a character? Are you voting for policy... or personality?"

"Reality TV ends when the credits roll. But politics? The consequences last far longer."

It makes you happy that he is trying to deport 10 million people? It makes you happy that he has told the military to stop enrolling black people? It makes you happy that some teenaged hackers have access to the treasury department with everyone's tax details and bank accounts? Are you happy that he has threatened allies? Don't call Kier Starmer filthy names, at least he can act like a decent human being unlike your idol.

Trump did not tell the military not to enroll black people. That is just completely untrue.

I don't know where you picked that up, but you might consider that your sources appear to be very unreliable, and in fact, lie. Possibly you need to look into other things they have said as well.

pentangles · 14/02/2025 03:06

A different take on this subject, but I think we were all happier before this nonsense and political navel gazing. I remember those times.

I would recommend stepping away from the political internet, from any kind of tabloid, and getting out into nature for a while.

If you are a MN user you are possibly middle aged or older, and you also might recall the 'before'?

Take some time out and just live. Shut the constant news cycle down. The doom and the gloom. We can't do much about any of this no matter what position we take. We have lost our humanity to the corporate newsfeeds. I hope the future contains less division and perpetual angst.

pentangles · 14/02/2025 03:08

I think what I mean to say is life is too fucking short for all of this. It's awful.
We will all be dead soon enough, and I would advise taking that as a motivation to own one's own thoughts and opt out of it all.

Cupcakes2035 · 14/02/2025 03:09

"The Games We Play"

"Funny thing, politics. So many people say they’re fed up with it—too messy, too corrupt, too far removed from real life. And yet... every election, the same show plays out. Familiar faces, familiar promises, familiar disappointments. Almost like a reality show with worse production values."

"But here’s the thing—politicians aren’t the stars of this show. You are. And the real question isn’t what they’ll do... it’s what you’ll accept."

"Because politicians don’t lead. They follow. They watch what you care about, what you ignore, and—most importantly—what you let them get away with. Outrage without action? That’s just noise. And noise is easy to tune out."

"But scrutiny? That’s different. Scrutiny makes them sweat. Read their voting records. Follow the money. Listen for what they won’t say. And when they ask for your vote, don’t be blinded by charm or terrified by fearmongering—demand receipts."

Cupcakes2035 · 14/02/2025 03:15

“The Price of Apathy” (On Why Not Caring is Exactly What They Want)

"‘Politics doesn’t affect me.’ That’s what some people say. ‘It’s all the same. Doesn’t matter who’s in charge.’ But tell me, do your taxes stay the same no matter who’s in office? Does your healthcare? Your cost of living? Your child’s education?"

"It’s easy to pretend none of it matters—until it does. Until you’re paying the price for decisions you never paid attention to. Because here’s the truth: You might not care about politics, but politics cares about you. It shapes the air you breathe, the water you drink, the safety of your streets, the price of your groceries. And if you’re not paying attention? Someone else is making those choices for you."

"And trust me, they’re not making them for your benefit."

"So stay uninvolved if you want. Ignore the debates, skip the policies, sit out the elections. But don’t be surprised when the world starts to look less and less like one you want to live in. Because power doesn’t just belong to those who take it—it belongs to those who show up."

Unless you are Ukrainian you cannot decide what's better for them.

Te Ukranians are of course allowed to enter their own negotiations and carry on with their own war. No one is stopping them. If they would like to fight to the bitter end, they can.

People very rarely make that choice, when it comes down to it. They surrender, or negotiate a settlement, when it becomes clear they cannot win, because the cost becomes to high.

So if they would like to tell the Americans, or Europe, to stay out of it, that is certainly their right.

What they can't do is tell any of those people that they must continue to support their war effort even when Europe and the US believes that it is unwinnable.

People shouldn't mistake Europe on this - they are happy, thrilled, to allow the Americans to be the bad guys on this issue. But if the Americans withdraw, you will not see Europe ramping up support, they will quietly follow, and they will be glad to be out of it without having to take the fall for making the decision.

The lack of realpolitik here is a little disturbing. The US is not going to attack Russia directly, or bomb the shit out of them, because that would precipitate an American-Russian war, which none of us want and would do no one any good, least of all the Ukrainians. Admitting Ukraine to NATO is also fraught, and would likely goad the Russians on even more -the increasing closeness of Ukraine to the west and the possibility of them entering NATO was after all a precipitating factor in the attack to begin with.

It's a very real possibility that the longer they resist a settlement, the more they will lose. Being a freedom fighter perpetually seems idealistic and romantic, but the reality of that is likely to be neither of those things.

One of the most fundamental womens rights is the right to have an abortion, the republican party has erased abortion rights in the US, Trump is anti-woman.

There is far more to womens rights than just abortion.

And, that's what the Democrats forgot.
