To think Trump might be the right Leader for right now?

Theemeperorsnewclothes · 12/02/2025 23:25

I am so confused why I am starting to think that Trump might be a good thing right now. I do think he is making the right moves to end conflict right now, which of course can only be a good thing for the poor people suffering in war zones but I’m so conflicted. I was trying to search for why I felt this way and what past war and future war situations might mean with Trump at the helm. Below are notes to myself. I know you educated, worldly wise mums will absolutely be able to educate on what I am missing. I am genuinely interested to hear your perspectives.

Why do wars start?
War is caused by many different things, including competition over land, religious conflicts, and nationalism. Imperialism, racism, and slavery have also been causes of armed conflict.
Why do wars end?
Realistically, wars usually end when one side wins or the parties experience significant war weariness. Thus, World War I was only a temporary end-of-war because there was no clear-cut victory.
We need to put an end to why wars start, not why wars end. Too much devastation and destruction and loss of life when a war starts. In this case, like the war in Gaza there has been no clear “winner” there has been constant and significant “war weariness” but some other country/political party/religious group steps in. However, there is still never a “clear-cut victory”
Tackle the issues that START wars and not STOP wars in the first place. A true leader will make their priority tackling all the issues that start wars. Trump needs to prove himself in this approach.
That said, we are in a very volatile world and ENDING wars is the first priority. Trump appears to have that in his sights. I say this as far left viewer of the world, as opposed to the right take on the world, as it is today.
I don’t care if you are left or right or somewhere in between. War must end now and we must have a leader who can figure out how to stop it happening again. The end. The Leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place, is the one who can save humanity. Right now, we need the wars to end, and like it or not, that is the position we find ourselves in, and that’s why, I currently think it might be Trump.

Anyone have any idea who is the leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place? I’m thinking they would need to be free from corruption and probably not an egotistical, power hungry male.

End of my rant 😁.

they are definitely leaning more toward it than they once were.

however I think it's a smart move to allow land concessions but have NATO membership to prevent further invasions.

You cannot appease the likes of Putin. He is the Hitler redux. And Trump is basically knee capping NATO. No doubt at Putins behest

Aria999 · 13/02/2025 19:57

NATO is vulnerable at the moment because nobody is sure if Trump would honor the security guarantee.

The last thing we need is a situation that encourages Putin to test the boundaries in the next 4 years.

Though he may do so anyway.

I don't know how Trumps deal with Israel and Gaza will work out, but it's not like anyone else has been able to bring peace to that region for the last 70 years+

What the hell is wrong with you?The solution is not to give Gaza to trump as his personal playground after using the American army as his personal militia and clean up unit to remove bombs, booby traps and dangerous buildings. His son in law has been eyeing Gaza as a development opportunity for at least the last year . It's not a peace deal for anyone other than trump and his family.

No matter what your question is, an orange psychopath is never the answer.

This seems like it could be a fun pub game...

'Who lost an election but refused to admit it?'

'Who probably raped at least one woman but got off on a technicality?'

Etc.

He’s doing a lot more for America than starmer is doing for the UK.

Can you outline what he is doing for Americans?

He’s setting to the US to watch it burn. He could not give a toss about America or its people. Grow up

At least wrt Ukraine, yes that is no doubt going to be an aspect of the deal. But how did it come to that? Russia took on those regions after the first negotiations broke down, if the deal had not been thrown out those lands would still be Ukranian (maybe with some sort of devolution).
I also think that the war was avoidable so at least two missed opportunities.
The more the fighting goes on the worse it will get for Ukraine, the more people and land they will lose, I don't think it is worth it just to try to weaken Russia strategically (although it may have distracted them sufficiently that they took their eye off the ball in Syria where they lost out bigly)

Total bollocks.

Ukraine is a sovereign state invaded by Putin.

The end

I wouldn't say high... higher than I would expect perhaps.

I know it's stark contrast to mn but the happier people are there with his policies, the inverse on here maybe

Trump hits highest approval mark of either term as new poll finds America loves his policies

HaveYouTrumped · 13/02/2025 20:29

Before Trump the policy was to focus on China they are the big threat. USA as far back as Hillary Clinton said they wanted to focus on China.
Ukraine can't win the war.
It's not for USA to decide who joins nato it's non of their business.
If they can stop this human mincer machine, and get peace keeping forces along the border with Russia that will stop any future aggression.

Ukraine can then breathe and start to repair itself and decide how to protect itself in future.
It will buy time and space... I don't think putin wants to invade Europe at all he's barely been able to attack Ukraine. It's only because they have so many people to throw u into the meat grinder and now poor North Koreans.

Re gaza I don't know but I've heard comments that this is to galvanise counties in the region to step up, by presenting their worst nightmare a golf coursed floridarised gaza strip... Like Las Vegas.

One poll is less reliable than an average across all of them, which is what I shared.

Not a Deal but a Steal. A Stitch up. How dim do you have to be to not see this?

TaggieO · 13/02/2025 20:38

Theemeperorsnewclothes · 13/02/2025 00:15

I do have some common sense and that’s why I am asking for different perspectives. I am not convinced Donald Trump is a “Nazi” but I am keen to understand others thoughts.

How are you not convinced? He admires and socialises with white supremacists. He literally said “Hitler did great things”. He’s making it his mission to persecute gay people, trans people, black people, women….. he literally said “immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country”. Where have we heard that before? It’s from “Mein Kampf”. As are several other bits of rhetoric he’s spouted recently. So you have 2 choices. Either he admires Hitler, has read Mein Kampf, and feels the need to quote and emulate it, or he holds such similar ideologies to its author that he’s spontaneously coming up with exactly the same sound bites. Either way, the man is a Nazi.

Aria999 · 13/02/2025 20:47

@HaveYouTrumped

It's not for USA to decide who joins nato it's non of their business.

This is inaccurate. All members of NATO must agree before a new country can join. The USA is a member of NATO. Therefore they can prevent a country from joining. They can't unilaterally decide that a country gets to join but it's ridiculous to say it's non of their business:

Theemeperorsnewclothes · 12/02/2025 23:34

I completely understand where you are coming from. However this “orange psychopath” appears to be brokering peace deals for now. But only for now.

Brokering deals? By giving other people's countries away?

If you think this is all for their benefit catch yourself on.

Serpentstooth · 13/02/2025 20:55

I might broker a deal for my neighbours back garden and, now I think of it, another has a field they only use for sheep. Garden would make a useful kids play area and I could put a pool in the field. Some of the surrounding farmers can take the sheep or they can be otherwise re homed. A bargain! Any offers?

epsilonzetaeta · 13/02/2025 20:57

I am really worried about this scenario. I think Trump and Putin have entered into a non aggression pact. Trump has emasculated NATO , so Putin gets to do what he likes. Trump has already said Ukraine could be Russian one day. In return he will get no pushback with his potential land grabs in Gaza, Greenland, the Panama Canal or wherever. He will also be guaranteed minerals from Ukraine.

He is dangerous and the fact that he has Elon Musk and Meta onside with his control of social media is really concerning. Look how many on Mumsnet and the media lap it up. It's mass manipulation

Vannymcvan · 13/02/2025 20:57

A racist, mysogynistic, law breaking liar? Yes YABU on so many counts. Give your head a wobble

HaveYouTrumped · 13/02/2025 21:12

@Aria999 the point is it's ridiculous for USA to decide whether Ukraine should join.
USA can veto it but that does not mean Ukraine can't try.
It's not for them to decide.

They never said they are abandoning nato

Unfortunately in this world who pays the piper plays the tune. Europe had 4 plus years to beef up their spending.

TheHateIsNotGood · 13/02/2025 21:14

Trump and I agree on one thing - "we need to stop killing people".

Nothing else has worked so far for the Gazan, Ukrainian, Sudanese, Yemeni, Congo, etc wars so I'll give the Orange One a chance.

And with regards to Trump's skin colour and tone; be very careful with criticising this too much as it could come back to bite you. He's a white man who chooses to be orange and identifies with that.

His skin, his choice.

Aria999 · 13/02/2025 21:19

@HaveYouTrumped I still don't really understand your point.

If the USA vetoes it then they have decided...? A veto is literally a decision that something can't happen. That's what it means. It's not just a vote against.

Nanny0gg · 13/02/2025 22:01

genesis92 · 13/02/2025 19:11

Trump could literally cause world peace and end world hunger, and people would still be so blinded by rage and ideology that it would make no difference to their feelings about him at this point

That's not what he's doing though, is it?

Although trumps comments may have downplayed nato, I dont see how it would weaken the alliances military abilities or collective unity, putins actions seem to be based more in the wider geopolitical goals and his or russias historic tensions with the west, as I understand it, russias agression has led to a more unified Nato, and if anything trump was wanting all natos members to contribue to the alliance ?
