To think Trump might be the right Leader for right now?

Theemeperorsnewclothes · 12/02/2025 23:25

I am so confused why I am starting to think that Trump might be a good thing right now. I do think he is making the right moves to end conflict right now, which of course can only be a good thing for the poor people suffering in war zones but I’m so conflicted. I was trying to search for why I felt this way and what past war and future war situations might mean with Trump at the helm. Below are notes to myself. I know you educated, worldly wise mums will absolutely be able to educate on what I am missing. I am genuinely interested to hear your perspectives.

Why do wars start?
War is caused by many different things, including competition over land, religious conflicts, and nationalism. Imperialism, racism, and slavery have also been causes of armed conflict.
Why do wars end?
Realistically, wars usually end when one side wins or the parties experience significant war weariness. Thus, World War I was only a temporary end-of-war because there was no clear-cut victory.
We need to put an end to why wars start, not why wars end. Too much devastation and destruction and loss of life when a war starts. In this case, like the war in Gaza there has been no clear “winner” there has been constant and significant “war weariness” but some other country/political party/religious group steps in. However, there is still never a “clear-cut victory”
Tackle the issues that START wars and not STOP wars in the first place. A true leader will make their priority tackling all the issues that start wars. Trump needs to prove himself in this approach.
That said, we are in a very volatile world and ENDING wars is the first priority. Trump appears to have that in his sights. I say this as far left viewer of the world, as opposed to the right take on the world, as it is today.
I don’t care if you are left or right or somewhere in between. War must end now and we must have a leader who can figure out how to stop it happening again. The end. The Leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place, is the one who can save humanity. Right now, we need the wars to end, and like it or not, that is the position we find ourselves in, and that’s why, I currently think it might be Trump.

Anyone have any idea who is the leader who can STOP wars happening in the first place? I’m thinking they would need to be free from corruption and probably not an egotistical, power hungry male.

End of my rant 😁.

I think there's better things he could be spending his billions on (see Bill Gates)

That’s okay, you’re entitled to an opinion.

OneLemonDog · 13/02/2025 17:49

As someone living in Canada, I don't think I have the words to convey my loathing of those who support Trump.

Wordsmithery · 13/02/2025 17:58

What a remarkably naive and ill-informed post, OP.

100A · 13/02/2025 18:11

OP, all he is doing for Ukraine is basically letting Putin win. The 'compromise' looks like it will be that Ukraine has to agree to surrendering a significant proportion of its territory (inc Crimea) and accept that they cannot be members of NATO or the EU.

Imagine if your son or daughter or anyone you knew had been killed in the Donbas. Or your home had been bombed in any of those Eastern regions. And now, after all that, Trump sweeps in and declares - 'it's all yours Vlad.' You might well be wondering what your relatives / friends died for.

And the way Trump goes about it is beyond belief - announcing 'peace talks' to the world before he's even had the decency to properly consult Zelensky or bring him into this grandiose announcement. It's so imperialist and patronising.

As for the proposed ethnic cleansing of Gaza ... even if he does succeed in 'resettling' 1 million of them into Egypt and 1 million into Jordan, that is effectively going to spark two simmering hotbeds of anger, hatred - and terrorism - which will play out over decades. The ME will be more volatile, not less. Israel will have millions that want to destroy them on either side. Another action of mass displacement will engender another generation of resentment and hate for Israel and the West - the perfect breeding ground for terrorism. Do we learn nothing from recent history?

MisterT373 · 13/02/2025 18:26

He's desperate to get a Nobel Peace prize to stoke his ego.

StandFirm · 13/02/2025 18:38

And now he's put a dangerous anti-vaxxer in the role of Health Secretary. Facepalm.

StandFirm · 13/02/2025 18:40

I was concerned about Trump's return but I didn't actually expect that he'd come with a literal health warning. In fact, this is odd considering he pushed the vaccine programme during COVID. But obviously I missed something important in MAGA world in order to understand what the hell he's thinking here.

unsync · 13/02/2025 19:03

I'm not sure the Ukranians or Palestinians would agree with you @Theemeperorsnewclothes

genesis92 · 13/02/2025 19:11

Trump could literally cause world peace and end world hunger, and people would still be so blinded by rage and ideology that it would make no difference to their feelings about him at this point

sofio · 13/02/2025 19:19

HellNoWay · 12/02/2025 23:33

No.

I am so angry with Trump I could explode. The Palestinian people have endured years and years of being systematically removed from their land. They've experienced multiple wars and for the last 15 months Palestinians living in gaza have been bombed, traumatised, had all their schools blown to bits, loved ones murdered, hospitals destroyed, infrastructure destroyed, and every single person in gaza has been utterly traumatised.

Now Trump is coming along telling them he not only agrees with their ethnic cleansing, but that he wants to steal their land himself and turn it into some kind of play thing, some real estate opportunity. How dare he. How fucking dare he.

After all they've been through.

I can't stand the evil psychopathic monster.

Honestly I hate the man.

As if Netenyahu wasn't bad enough.

Evil greedy men with power make me feel sick to my stomach. Where the fuck is his humanity. Where?

haven't you heard of the October 7th attack? 😲

SnowFrogJelly · 13/02/2025 19:19

@genesis92

No one is 'blinded' by the orange psychopath.. he isn't going to do any of those things

JHound · 13/02/2025 19:25

For certain demographics.

Undoubtedly.

haven't you heard of the October 7th attack? 😲

Does that attack (which is one in decades of hostilities) justify ethnic cleansing?

Of course I don’t think Trump is the man to bring peace to the world. That’s why I said, I think he is the man to bring peace to the world right now, but value the opinion of others around why I feel like this, and hope for a better solution going forward.

How is he bringing peace to Canada? He wants to subjugate the country.

sofio · 13/02/2025 19:36

@JHound how do you think Israel should have responded to a country run by a terrorist organisation who openly state that they want to erase Israel and kill all Jews? Serious question. What should they have done?

It's because of the media you're reading. Try reading other sources.

I'm a Dem voting (British) American and I'm a bit bored of the whole he's a Nazi nonsense as that's just fueling the Trump hyperbole. I am also VERY over my very wealthy, liberal, middle aged, supposedly deeply educated, white female friends sharing very obvious misinformation, while they wring their hands and worry about their rights. Their complete inability to recognize their privilege in what they post is astounding.

That said, I But I do think that Trump is an absolute disaster for this country. I hope I'm proven wrong, I really do. But all Im seeing is a bunch of billionaires running us all, full steam, into a recession and a potential human rights nightmare and the only people who will benefit are the billionaires. It's no wonder so many of them looked so happy at the inauguration.

I think if he doesn't ignore the courts we may still have a functioning democracy at the end of 4 years but I am nervous.

We may see the disintegration of nato and Taiwan going to china. It looks like Ukraine will almost certainly go to Russia. I wonder what Putin will do next?

At home, a lot of vulnerable people are worried and why wouldn't they be? He just flails around and doesn't think or care about the consequences .

He randomly ordered engineers to let a load of water out of a dam in central California, nowhere near the fires, because of some idea that water was required for the fires. I think he may actually be crazy.

And that's before we start on the corruption and profiteering.

I found your post interesting; I agree that there's a lot of hyperbole and panic in some people's rhetoric. But underneath that, the situation is actually quite bad.

(Also a dem voting Brit living in America)

Because that's a likely scenario, especially when every action he's taking will make them worse, and every time he opens his mouth he causes an issue.

MrsJoanDanvers · 13/02/2025 19:45

Ha ha-bigliest negotiator in the world and he’s conceded to Russia in public before negotiations start. You do realise someone on Russian tv is saying he’s doing Russia’s work for them-they’re a bit shocked that it’s so easy.
