Do you get your children anything for Valentines day

Or do any activities with them?

I’m seeing it more and more as a thing for kids to be involved in, as in crafts or getting heart cupcakes..do you do things like that?

I find the concept absolutely bizarre and am surprised at the amount of people saying yes!

Valentine’s Day is for romantic love/the person you’re shagging. It’s not for kids.

It’s everywhere for kids now a days though. Baby groups, play groups, cafes, my children’s nursery and school etc all have valentine’s theme stuff this week.

I suppose it fits very well with the pink glitter and fairytale princess culture we've decided to foist on little girls. I think I see more people mentioning getting cards and gifts for their daughters than their sons, wonder why this is ...

What a load of rubbish. People don't treat their boys differently than their girls. I only have boys and they have both had a card and some treats. They were over the moon and cried happy tears after reading our cards to them. Why wouldn't you tell your sons how much you love them?

How’s it about sex? Not today but just curious.

Kitchen based grooming…? What, baking some heart shaped biscuits?! 😆 sorry that was meant for @Iwanttoliveonamountain

Okbyethen · 14/02/2025 13:27

I get my son heart shaped chocolate lollies and heart shaped sweeties with a card from 'someone who loves you'. I've done it ever since he was little but he cottoned on a few years back that it's me 😄

TheKeatingFive · 14/02/2025 13:40

Just when you think this place can't get any more batshit - someone pops up to talk about 'kitchen based grooming'

Never change, Mumsnet 😆

Glitchymn1 · 14/02/2025 13:44

Yes I do. DD made me a crafted, solid red heart ornament and I got her a card and box of chocs.

Liv999 · 14/02/2025 13:46

Usually I don't but I did this year, just a heart shaped teddy and some baileys heart shaped chocs for the older one

Why do people care so much about what other families do or don't celebrate?

This is the crux of the issue, really. It's a silly holiday, you can celebrate it or not however you like. There's literally no one policing this. I don't get why there's so much judgment about how other people choose to celebrate it. 🤷‍♀️

Don't be daft! It's a day for lovers, not kids. They don't have to be included in every event! Same as I wouldn't dream of buying 'happy mothers day grandad' or any other of that rubbish. My children buy ME mothers day stuff, not them buying for MY mam. I mean, she's dead anyway, but you get my meaning. There'll be mothers day cards from the bloody dog next!!!!

I have terrible news for you: they already sell Mother's and Father's Day cards from pets.

KimberleyClark · 14/02/2025 13:56

I’ve had dogs in the past, we have no children, but I wouldn’t think of buying my DH Father’s Day card from the dog and he wouldn’t for me either.

irregularegular · 14/02/2025 13:58

I've never heard of this! (kids are in early 20s)

Fizbosshoes · 14/02/2025 14:00

Its never crossed my mind to do anything for my kids, although DH bought steak to cook for dinner and obviously teen DS is having one as well! (He'd eat 2 if he could get away with it!)

However when I was in the card shop I saw a small soft toy thought DD would like. But I didn't buy it then, I might get it and send it at later date

zerogrey · 14/02/2025 14:07

No, because it's fucking weird. Valentine's is for romantic relationships.

Aquarius1234 · 14/02/2025 14:11

Never got a card from my parents when young.
Why would I ?

I'm more shocked at the amount of people saying that it's about sex!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. Romantic love maybe - but when 12 year olds are sending valentines cards to their first crush at school (which is what I associate it with more than anything) that's not about sex. And if it is that's more worrying than extending the day to mean love in a family and friendship way.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 14/02/2025 15:04

Why would you? Can't adults have at least one thing to themselves?

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 14/02/2025 15:06

My Mother's Day card is always signed from my son and the dog !

Gogogo12345 · 14/02/2025 15:07

No why would i

Devilsmommy · 14/02/2025 15:08

My 2 year old made me something at the childminders. Very cute though I don't really celebrate it myself

cannaecookrisotto · 14/02/2025 15:18

My mother has bought me a little Valentine's Day present.

I am 34 😂.

She makes me look bad, because me and DP don't bother with each other but she insists on giving us a little gift bag.

Of all the things to gatekeep, a day celebrating love is a strange choice.

PrivacyScreen · 14/02/2025 15:26

I don't even get my husband something

Apparently it's to avoid trauma and trigger.

Whammyyammy · 14/02/2025 15:41

Good lord no

Today's little darlings feel left out and apparently they can be triggered if left out of such occasions 🤣🤣
