To be annoyed with my husband over his tooth

bookworm8500 · 09/02/2025 13:25

My husband knocked a tooth out at work (don't ask!).
It's not at the very front, but one to the side of the front, so very obvious when he even talks, let alone smiles or laughs.

He's always taken pride in his appearance and still does....however....he is not planning on getting his tooth replaced with an implant or a bridge. We've got a dentist, we've got the money.

He hates anything medical and actively avoids the doctors etc and has been lucky he's been able to avoid them for most of his life.

It's genuinely really annoyed me and I can't understand why he wouldn't. It's aged him (he's 52) and it just looks awful.

AIBU to insist he goes to the dentist and gets it sorted?!

YANBU
He needs to look after his teeth and have a moderate amount of pride in his appearance.

BilboBlaggin · 09/02/2025 13:27

Of course you're being unreasonable. It may be annoying but you can't tell another adult what to do with their body cosmetically.

Tiswa · 09/02/2025 13:29

Because he doesn’t want to - dental work isn’t always straightforward and having something alien in his mouth may be off putting to him.
at the moment there appears to be no medical reason to put a tooth in just cosmetic

gamerchick · 09/02/2025 13:29

You can't tell him what to do with his body OP.

Implants are painful. Bridges are a pain in the arse. He'll just not wear it if he's not bothered

bookworm8500 · 09/02/2025 13:39

I know I can't force him.(sadly) 🤣

Tell me more about bridges, why are they annoying?

I've got 2 missing teeth from infections after pregnancy weirdly, but they're at thr very back so can't notice them. However, he did point out that he has more teeth than me 😳🤣

If he doesn't like medical procedures he can opt for a flexi plate with a tooth on it for about £800.
It involves taking a mould of the jaw but that's about as invasive as it gets. It's more comfortable than the rigid nhs plate.

Lighteningstrikes · 09/02/2025 13:51

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all.

Personally I think missing teeth is a terrible look on quite a few levels.

Don’t get me wrong, I really empathise with people who can’t afford them.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 09/02/2025 13:52

Will his other teeth eventually slide forward to fill up the gap a bit?

DeliciouslyEvil · 09/02/2025 13:54

no i have had a similar gap for years, never give it a thought😮

biscuitsandbooks · 09/02/2025 13:55

Aren't you being a bit massively hypocritical if you also have missing teeth that you haven't replaced? 😬

SabreIsMyFave · 09/02/2025 13:56

Which tooth is it? Like is it one of the front 6 at the top (IYSWIM??)

Ah that's a good idea. We can look into that

And?

AND, no-one can see the gaps! Obviously! 🙄 Her husband's missing tooth is visible, and yes it does look naff and unattractive if it can be seen when he smiles.

bookworm8500 · 09/02/2025 13:59

This is the same tooth that he is now missing.

My missing teeth are literally at the back, so you cannot see them at all

Hmm - my DH has teeth missing at the back and you can definitely see the gaps. It doesn't remotely bother me though or change how attractive I find him.

Oh fucking hell! 😂 That looks hideous! I would be embarrassed to go out with him. I would refuse to actually, until he at least TRIED to get it sorted. He needs a crown or if there is not enough tooth for a crown, he needs a bridge ...

WHY would he want to go through life looking like this?! 😬

I just think it's a bit "off" to complain about him missing a tooth when you're missing two and haven't done anything about them Confused

How on earth can you see tooth gaps at the back? 😂 Does he go around looking like this?!

No, but when he laughs or yawns, they're very easily visible? He doesn't go around mumbling with his mouth half closed his whole life, lol.

queenofthemay · 09/02/2025 14:05

I have missing teeth at the very back, and it’s definitely noticeable.
He’s just being the same as you in not worrying about it.

toooldforbrat · 09/02/2025 14:06

I have that same tooth missing - it literally snapped off eating a Brazil nut! ☹️

I had an implant done this week and it was expensive & painful but wasn’t prepared to have a gap.

27pilates · 09/02/2025 14:08

Denture
Bridge
Implant

Something to fill the gap needs sorting. It's too obvious to have that one missing. It'll scupper his employment opportunities.

MissNeverdonowrong · 09/02/2025 14:10

That would give me the ick. A good smile is important to me.
