Ainu to think Angela Rayners has been set up to fail on her 1.5m homes target ?
you can barely get planning permission through for a small extension in under 10 weeks let alone 1.5 m new homes
Every month that goes by the shortage compounds
I wonder if Kier has set her up to fail

Who knows what the Trumpian plan is? We know America has its eye on China as a bigger threat and feels overused and under valued in Ukraine.

European countries have become complacent about their defence spending, taking for granted that America will act in concert with their aims.

BoJo is suggesting that Trump is trying to offend and shock Europeans into action - and we should look to utilise frozen Russian assets to underwrite further support for Ukraine and compensate the US.

🤷🏼‍♀️

It was good to see James Cleverly speaking in the house yesterday. He basically called Lammy a wimp. The tories missed a trick not electing Cleverly as leader. He would have been far better than Badenoch.

TheNuthatch · 20/02/2025 11:46

Spokesman for the kremlin has directly rejected Starmer's proposal of putting UK troops into Ukraine.
You know, the proposal that doesn't even have the backing of other European leaders but he announced it anyway.

Cleverly is saying we should increase defence spending to 3% gdp. Making the point that peace through strength is better - and a lot cheaper - than war resulting from weakness.

I think talk around a push from 2% to 2.5% was £12bn. I almost feel sorry for Reeves at the moment - she'll be forever triggered by the word headroom

Agree with that take

Agree, I like that. I'm also glad Cleverly is stepping forward.
I don't feel sorry for Reeves though, she's made her bed.

Upstartled · 20/02/2025 13:59

Yes, I do too. I expect that whether the aim was to get European countries to put more money into defence or not, it will likely be the effect.

It was a bit tongue in cheek. 😁

I recall the IMF warning re not having the capacity for future events due to the budget and policies

Reeves should have listened

But she doesn't need to listen. She's an economist with a decades experience at the bank of England dontcha know! 😂

TheNuthatch · 20/02/2025 14:51

I will be very pleased to see defence upped to 3%.
I suppose an increase in defense spending will also give the Chancellor a convenient cover story for the swingeing cuts she would have had to make anyway in March.

I wouldn't worry. Badenoch will be ousted before the next GE.

Parsley1234 · 20/02/2025 19:48

How anyone could wipe out £9 billion of headroom simply due to their own economic incompetence is astounding.

TheNuthatch · 20/02/2025 20:59

I heard on Times radio tonight that there's some toing and froing going on about whether Starmer or Macron get to go first when they visit the whitehouse next week. Who will be greeted first outside the oval office, who will get the first fireside chat. Why can't they just go in together ffs!

Parsley1234 · 20/02/2025 21:37

@EasternStandard @TheNuthatch just had visions of those two dressed up as villager people

EasternStandard · 20/02/2025 22:09

TheNuthatch · 20/02/2025 22:21

Matching combats 😂😂😂

I hope Lord Ali had bought Starmer a new suit. We wouldn't want our poor working class Keir looking scruffy.

Parsley1234 · 20/02/2025 22:29
