Ainu to think Angela Rayners has been set up to fail on her 1.5m homes target ?
you can barely get planning permission through for a small extension in under 10 weeks let alone 1.5 m new homes
Every month that goes by the shortage compounds
I wonder if Kier has set her up to fail

Labour "won" by default. Stärmer is not a leader. So yes Labour won, but almost anyone could have been leader.

Well Corbyn tried it and couldn't unify the Labour Party. Starmer may have won by 'default' as you put it, but don't underestimate the leadership skills required to unify a (at that time) divided, discordant, dysfunctional Labour Party for long enough to win an election.

Well, some posters here will be happy.

It was suggested that he needs his Falklands by some.

So concerning to see the posts today

Tg for you guys on this thread. And some calm from Germany

TheNuthatch · 17/02/2025 22:05

The Supreme Court has rejected Reeves' attemp to intervene on banks having to pay out on dodgy car loans. Lloyds share price fell 4% on Monday.

The FPTP voting system didn't just suddenly happen in 2024, it's been around since the middle ages 😂 Admittedly, it's probably time for a change, but the fact that it favoured Labour this time is really no different to it having favoured other parties in the past. That's our current voting system, like it or not.

Bless. One minute you've built a firewall of cats to keep out dissenters out of your safe space and the next minute you are hawkishly cheering on Starmer as he takes off his glasses and dresses up for war. Must be dizzying.

The concerning part is how quickly the support happens

And what that means when more is needed, for young people specifically

marshmallowmix · 18/02/2025 08:59

Exactly our young people shouldn’t be anywhere near there 🤔he is an idiot they all are it’s scary!!

TheNuthatch · 18/02/2025 08:59

I heard on the news that only France and Sweden agreed with Starmer's proposals yesterday. Is that right? So Germany, Spain and Italy said no??

TheNuthatch · 18/02/2025 09:02

Also heard that Starmer is planning to 'demand' a backstop from the US. We commit 5000 troops, which would actually be 15000 on rotation and the US also commit troops. Why does he think he's in a position to demand anything from Trump? Am I missing something here?

Sherbs12 · 18/02/2025 09:03

So ‘negotiations’ have begun in Saudi Arabia - Lavrov and Rubio leading the discussions and Ukraine not there, as Zelensky said they were not invited.

marshmallowmix · 18/02/2025 09:04

I saw reeves tried to block those who overpaid on commission for car loans being paid …it was thrown out! They are not for the little people. Cannot stand any of them it gets worse every week

God help us with those two.

Zelensky travelling to Saudi on Wednesday I think. Let's hope he's in the room.

He can't. They'll only do it if it's in their interest

Exactly.

Also, just with regards to previous posts about a European coalition / joint intervention, this is something Macron has been calling for and wanted for several years now - I can see reports from at least 2018 - so it will be interesting to see if his ambitions and these talks do take on some format, whether it’s in relation to Ukraine or not.

Seeing the reaction just because the politician they like says it. Terrifying.

Italy and Spain, like Scholz, says that it is far too soon for these discussions - but they said it more politely.

Upstartled · 18/02/2025 11:10

Basically, the only thing that all the European leaders are clear on is that they'd like the US to say on-side and not to leave them to do it themselves.

I've just caught up on that thread. You've been fighting a good fight on there ES 👏

The Starmer fans seem to have gone a little quieter since Starmer received his lesson in statesmanship from the Europeans.

Have you seen what Labour Comms teams create? This is cringeworthy

TheNuthatch · 18/02/2025 13:05

That should have been a good news story for Labour to sell yesterday. I feel a bit sorry for Streeting as it got drowned out by Starmer making a twat of himself on the world stage.

Who is Dad? Is that Labour Party’s dad? Karl Marx reporting for duty?

Upstartled · 18/02/2025 13:25

There doesn't seem to be a lot of joined up thinking going around at the moment. Apparently mnetters would like to snub America for being too aggressive and would also like Europe to club together and play peacekeeper in Ukraine. With no real understanding that to do that we need the muscle of the US.

It stretches the imagination to think that people could be so naive, until you remember that ideological support is a faith based belief system that operates without a hook onto reality.
