Ainu to think Angela Rayners has been set up to fail on her 1.5m homes target ?
you can barely get planning permission through for a small extension in under 10 weeks let alone 1.5 m new homes
Every month that goes by the shortage compounds
I wonder if Kier has set her up to fail

I agree with you on this point completely, about being manipulated by putin

But think about it - what was in his interest since he started the war? GTTO! again, Tory, BoJo and Truss in particular, were the strongest putin's opponents in Europe. So they are gone.

Last year Reform didn't get a chance so we have Labour, who are very neutral to putin, who crash economy big time and grow pro Reform sentiment in response to their failures. Putin will have a field day in next election here. Even if we win jackpot and Reform doesn't perform well, UK will be sort of irrelevant on world scene given major economic failures of this government.

Labour need to listen and pivot, and yes, make unpopular decisions, but not unpopular amongst businesses.

Should one of those pivots/decisions involve possibly re-joining the EU / the single market and customs?

EasternStandard · 10/02/2025 10:56

You're entitled to your view that the economy is in a worse place because of labour policies. I personally disagree.

I'm interested in @Parsley1234 question too.

Starmer has made it clear that he will not entertain any of these suggestions. He won't even accept youth mobility.

If Europe continues turning right, they may drop their insistence that any deal with the UK would involve the UK accepting freedom of movement, which would help Starmer.

Yes, I know he’s taken that stance (although there seems to be considerable and growing support for him to change that approach) - I was just interested to know if that was one of the pivots/choices the pp was referring to.

As you say, what happens in Europe will be very interesting.

Parsley1234 · 10/02/2025 10:47

@LostittoBostik which part of the economy is better please ? I’m very keen to know

It's not.

But it's not because of Labour policies. They haven't had a chance to wash through yet.

I'm not saying it will definitely be better as a result, just that we don't know.

The economy is in a terrible downward spiral as a result of brexit, housing costs, pandemic overhang and desperate poverty. Most of it is a result of policies implemented in about 2012.

We really won't know whether Labour was onto the right track until 2035 IMO

EasternStandard · 10/02/2025 11:11

They are absolutely washing through.

I can see why Labour are tracking towards recession. They can't grasp the impact of the budget and are likely having similar discussions and deflections rn.

That's jobs lost whilst you and they do that though.

mowmiaow · 10/02/2025 11:14

Blame Brexit and the Tories for this. Not Labour. Too soon.

People are again blaming labour, the same way they did after the 2008 global recession. Which was a GLOBAL recession.

LostittoBostik · 10/02/2025 11:15

Ok. I disagree. Doesn't matter what they did, if it wasn't NI it would be something else- we'd still be in this position for a decade.

Why is that? Are you in the public sector out if interest

YES!
Yes! Yes! Yes!

Make one bloody unpopular decision using your historical majority, rejoin EU and save us from this free fall!

But they are dragging their feet with youth mobility, so no hope in hell

Blaming Tory for Brexit - yes, absolutely, never forgotten and never forgiven.

But last five years of high inflation etc? which was exactly the same across the world? why blaming Tory for this and not covid and war in Ukraine? if anything, we had it much milder than in Europe.

twistyizzy · 10/02/2025 11:25

LostittoBostik · 10/02/2025 11:15

Nobody wants to hear it.

No Labour supporters want to hear the hash Labour are making of the economy, even in the face of mounting evidence from across all spectrums.
I have yet to see 1 economic commentator/economist saying that Labour are doing a good job.

mowmiaow · 10/02/2025 11:33

Everyone seems to have forgotten Truss, Brexit (courtesy of Cameron) and the shitshow financial legacy the Tories have given us in their 15 odd years.

But happy to blame Labour who have been in govt just a few months. Not to mention the health service on its knees, higher child poverty rates than ever, greater wealth inequality, reliance on food banks, Truss's impact on mortgages and that massive pile of shit.

Let's also forget about Partygate, let them die, etc etc from the "worst PM" as recently declared, Bojo.

Weird how memories can be so short. Let's blame it all on Labour though!

Whataboutery isn't relevant because we are talking about Labour. Tories aren't in government now.
FYI by the metrics Labour accused Truss of crashing the economy, they have also achieved. Hence why Truss sent cease + desist letter. Labour demanded her resignation so therefore Reeves should also resign because she did exactly the same thing as Truss.

Labour inherited a growing economy. Their policies have directly contributed to the situation of the UK heading towards recession.

Who would you like to see replace Reeves? Which party do you think would do a better job given the set of circumstances she inherited from Tories?

Let us know what you think, then we'll understand your agenda better?

My 'agenda' is that Labour had 14 years to plan and have only achieved fucking the economy up due to their incompetence. They put ideology above everything else, including fiscal sense.

I always voted Labour up until this election and so pleased I didn't this time! Currently not sure where I stand but it certainly isn't with this group of incompetent people. Not sure I want anyone in current cabinet in the role of Chancellor because I don't believe any of them are up to the job.

All this doesn't change the metrics caused by Labour. Read the latest, including below from the FT.

So you're very happy to slag them off after 5 minutes in government but won't suggest which other party (as per my post) you would prefer? Right.

I'd just like to understand which party you think would do a better job?

Oh you expect me to say Reform etc. Cos anyone who criticises Labour is a bot etc?
I just want a competent Chancellor/Ed Sec/Deputy PM etc I don't care which party they are from.
