Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump. America is losing the respect of the world

It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

It's a distraction. What is being done while this gets all the coverage?

LastTrainsEast · 05/02/2025 21:10

"He's getting into their systems and replacing their code. There is no knowing what he's accessing and what he's going to change"

Which is right up there with "You don't know what they put in them there vaccines! I've heard about that 5G!"

Trump said "elect me and I will do these things" and the American people elected him. Then to the surprise of the rest of the world he started keeping his promises.

I get why that shocks people. Labour made big promises too and the day after they got in the excuses began.

You may choose to hate the majority of the American people for their choice, but it is their choice and they are celebrating a very successful week.

Israel had always been open about it's end game, no Palestinians at all in Israel. Certainly that's been the stated aim of the right wing government forever, it's not like they have hidden the fact and the state sanctioned murder of West Bank citizens is happening every day now.

I think this is true and I think Trump has every intention of essentially committing genocide in Gaza. I think this will destabilize the middle East and potentially herald a war. I think Netanyhu is emboldened by the Trump administration and will prepare for war with the US at its side.

Trump and Elon will continue to meddle in UK politics and Elon will use his immense power in social media and never ending billions to engineer Farage as our new PM. The rational papers are already reporting how Farage thinks the Gaza idea is good. As if he wasn't a raving racist idiot 🙄and ignoring the fact that most people who's IQ is higher than their shoe size don't care what he thinks.

I utterly despair. There is actually no country to run towards. We're doomed.

Mrsbloggz · 05/02/2025 21:11

I think Trump is too wily to have chosen generals capable of usurping him.

He’s temporarily relocating them to other countries whilst Gaza is being rebuilt. Not by himself or Americans, but with the assistance of other Arab countries, if he can get them onboard. As it is currently, Gaza is like a gigantic refugee camp - with a lot of homeless people. What do others think should be done here? Hamas should in theory be rebuilding, but we all know they won’t.

He hasn't said its temporary and even if he did why would any sane person trust him?

elp30 · 05/02/2025 21:13

I'm a first and second generation American.
My father was born and raised in Mexico, as well as all four of my grandparents.
I am also dark-skinned, as is my oldest son.
We have lived in our neighborhood for the past 17 years and as of the past few weeks, taking a leisurely walk has elicited strange looks and the occasional question: "Do you live in this neighborhood?"
Interesting that they have never asked the actual immigrant, my English husband who is on a green card, if he actually lives in the neighborhood.
I have to remind myself, and our son, that we need to always carry our US passports whenever we go anywhere.
It's truly sad.

Drfosters · 05/02/2025 21:13

But this is trump’s MO. He’s been very open about how he negotiates. He is a hard negotiator.

he goes in with an extreme demand. He knows he won’t get it. Greenland/Canada/Gaza- whatever it is. They sound stupid and crazy but he does it to destabilise those he is negotiating with. The craziness puts people on edge - they don’t know what he will do.

clearly then the negotiations start happening and Trump concedes ground and somewhere he gets hopefully what he wants. For instance, I don’t think for a minute Trump expected to buy Greenland. But he wants the key artic influence. He’ll end up with extra influence in the area.

the key to Trump is not his first grandstanding demand. Look at what he really wants…

squidgie · 05/02/2025 21:14

Exactly. People should wake up to this now.

Ilovemytulips · 05/02/2025 21:15

What he has done, which must have been unintended, is exposed that US weapons used by Israel has made Gaza uninhabitable to some extent.

You know the point that human rights groups have been shouting from the roof tops for months but not taken seriously by our governments.

BusyExpert · 05/02/2025 21:15

IMO you are very wrong. He is saving the world from the fatuous nonsense of the far left

EasternStandard · 05/02/2025 20:50

I'm not sure the changes wanted will require US troops

How do you think 2 million people get forced out of their homes?

LastTrainsEast · 05/02/2025 21:20

"I think Trump has every intention of essentially committing genocide in Gaza"

Yes, but without the killing all the people part.

Which is fine because these days anyone can have a genocide without any deaths at all. Genocide now means "doing things I don't agree with"

We don't know the details of President Trump's plans for Gaza/Palestine, but I do know that doing nothing will be disastrous for the people of Palestine.

In a few weeks Hamas will attack again and take more hostages. Israel will mount another rescue mission. People at UK dinner parties will argue again that letting the terrorists keep the hostages is the way to peace - though none of them will offer to let Hamas have their own children to make it even more peaceful.

A few more cycles like this and there will be no Palestinians left. Hamas will survive and sneak across the border when it gets too sticky and begin again with another population.

Or Trump can try something different.

Trump is nonsense - creates turmoil in the stock markets, makes false claims about tariffs and taking other countries. He won’t follow through on his election promises and everything which goes wrong is someone else’s fault!

TheGander · 05/02/2025 21:22

It sounds batshit crazy, not to mention incredibly insensitive towards a population that has suffered out of all proportion to the act it is being collectively punished for. It probably plays well to Trump’s evangelical Christian base, and to a section of the US Jewish electorate and financial backers.

User32459 · 05/02/2025 21:22

Trump is a dangerous idiot.

Why he won two terms, look at the utter shitshow of the Democrat Party and modern liberalism.

Gonners · 05/02/2025 21:25

YABU to presuppose that America has ever had "the respect of the world".

I’m American and I spend a lot of time depressed these days. Last night I just started laughing. Picturing a Trump casino on the Gaza Strip is just ludicrous. I know it’s offensive and awful, but I also don’t believe for a moment that it is going to happen.

im pretty sure he did just lose every last slim thread of credibility he had in the world stage. I have no idea what that means for our country our the planet.

Not only is it ludicrous, but from a business sense, he was a disastrous casino owner. His casinos in Atlantic City went bankrupt as reported by the NY Times back in 2016

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/12/nyregion/donald-trump-atlantic-city.html?unlocked_article_code=1.uk4.sp6U.O0M44ji4f_x9&smid=url-share

I am American too living here in the UK, and I’m telling strangers I’m from Canada….it is so shameful.

That whole 'most powerful man on the planet' thing is just a line in newspapers to make you panic.

And the same way that life still goes on no matter the politics, that's true for the vast (and it is vast) majority of Americans.

I STILL can't believe how much MN worries about the Americans. I guess, like Razorlight, they can't sleep.

If Brits put half or even a quarter as much effort into their own country as they do worrying about the US, things in the UK could be very different.

After the crazy Brits voted for Brexit, it was a nightmare. Every morning I woke up to a new announcement of doom. Maybe the Brits on this site remember those intense days.

I guarantee that, compared to the average Brit, the average American has no idea what is happening in the UK and doesn't care! If I go to a meeting, there's guaranteed to be a pot-shot at the Americans but I'm sure that if I moved to the US, there'd be no mention of UK politics.

So, stop wasting your time thinking about the US. Take steps to improve your life. As Arthur Ashe said, 'Start where you are and use what you have.' [oh, whoops, he's an American ...]

Redheadedstepchild · 05/02/2025 21:29

It's called brinkmanship!

LastTrainsEast · 05/02/2025 21:30

"Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump."

OP which declaration made you the most angry. Was it when he said men should not be allowed in women's prisons.

When he said a man's human rights don't extend to watching a little girl shower?

When he said that women should be allowed to have their sports again.

Or was it when he ended the practise of giving dangerous drugs to children and removing the breasts of teenage girls.

He has stopped immigration, but that is his right. I'm quite sure you lock your front door and wouldn't consider it a right for people to just move in.

Feelingathomenow · 05/02/2025 21:34

The shift world wide is towards extremist politics, both left and right. The left have been shoving batshit crap at us for years - eg can’t criticise child rape gangs without being racist, risk of losing your job by stating biological facts, can’t say anything about millions rocking up illegally destroying your country. People became so fed up with being told to shut up over really important subjects, even centrists have shifted to embracing leadership which was strong enough to say what they thought, even if many of the things they also said they didn’t agree with.

People are scared, they feel pushed into a corner by the lunacy that the left has become, they need a way out. Unfortunately, the only way out is for someone who has gone batshit the other way.

which is crazier? A Gaza vegas or saying a man can become a woman or we must ignore mass child rape because we mustn’t be seen as racist?

The rise of the far right is directly linked to the embracing of the far left my the mainstream.

it’s frightening and quite frankly will end in a violent and unpleasant way. We need to move back to the centre -this involves recognition of the fact we have had extreme left views forced upon us, by opening up conversations that aren’t shutdown, by listening. Whilst extreme left views continue to be embraced, often in the face of common sense, the far right will continue to gain traction
