Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump. America is losing the respect of the world

It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

So you think any hypothetical profits would be given to the Palestinians? The ones he's said will be made to leave?

People whose homes destroyed in LA are can’t return to destroyed homes because it’s not safe. I see parallel with Palestinians… how can a person return to a block of flats that is collapsed? Like asking people to return to Grenfell.
Its common sense to evacuate for large scale redevelopment … America is not paying to rebuild Palestine.

Turkeyneck101 · 05/02/2025 20:32

Trump is trying to distract the world from all the moves he is making to initiate the possibility of a 3rd term. Whether he will literally be fit for it of course is debatable, but his megalomaniac brain wants the power and control.

He also wants to distract from his utterly disastrous tarriff war and the mess he made if it. The art of the deal guy negotiated nothing new with Canada and less patrols from Mexico (no matter what the republicans try to say) it illustrated how little he knows. To top it all he 'negotiated' a deal with Panama to allow US ships to use the Panama Canal ...which are too big to pass through the Panama canal. He is an idiot but a very dangerous one.

All that is happening is straight out of Project 2025 a rascist fascist document if ever there was one.

Elon Musk is an unhinged loon who isn't quite as bright according to those who have worked with him and who is as thin skinned as trump himself. For all his talk about free speech he doesn't like it when the free speech is about him.

What the UK has to worry about is that the right wingers and uneducated in the UK ( see the US comparison) just see trump as being strong, fighting for his country and being isolationist. Which is all very well until.there is a disaster and suddenly they need some outside help...see LA fires where Mexican and Canadian firefighters stepped in.

If you listen to enough podcasts and read the comment sections, or listen to callers on LBC there are plenty of people out there who admire the orange nut job. They don't care about womans rights they just see that Starmer isn't what they want, so Farage is the next best thing. Thankfully he has fallen foul of Musk otherwise Elon would be raiding the treasury with his whipping boys.

Was Musk born in America, I think it was South Africa. But I suppose that prerequisite for candidacy for POTUS could be changed. Watch this space.

Wait for the rules to change, along with term limits.

But surely having a roof over their heads, running water, an actual infrastructure, is preferable to what they already have, which is absolutely nothing. The place is now just a pile of rubble. The Palestinians won’t give a jot who is their ‘landlord’ if they’ve got homes to go to, and not tents.

And there are already pledges from countries other than America to get in and help them rebuild.

If you think once they're moved out they'll be allowed back in...

Ok. Same thing happens here and you're shipped off to...I don't know...Australia. That ok with you?

In 2017, Steve Bannon, advisor to Donald Trump, called it "flood the zone," literally "inundate the zone," overwhelm the opposition, institutions, and the media with an unstoppable torrent of announcements, measures, and decisions.

So many, so relevant, crucial, and often illegal or unconstitutional that touch a nerve, overwhelm, and make a strong or effective response impossible.

When congressmen or senators try to focus on one, three more come down on them. When courts halt one, others arrive. When the media investigate or delve into an appointment, a dismissal, they helplessly watch as the rest pass without obstacles.

This is a very fast paced and terrifying takeover isn't it.

Perhaps this is what the tariff fiasco was smoke-screening.

Before the election, Trump couldn't see any possible outcome other than a win for him. So even before he was in office he was talking about amending the constitution so that he could serve a third term. And I absolutely wouldn't bet on him not trying at some point.

Or changing the rules for a US citizen, not necessarily native born, to be President.

But the home owners who lost their homes in LA still own their land. Anything they rebuild is theirs. Anything Trump builds in Gaza will belong to Trump.

The US troops are going to be very busy. They’ve got to invade Panama, Greenland, Canada and Gaza all in the next four years. The overtime bill will be immense.

I'm not sure the changes wanted will require US troops

Cantonet · 05/02/2025 20:50

This is a real life implosion of the West.
He was voted in. The second of two very obviously unsuited presidents for one reason or another. We do get the presidents we deserve. Welcome to a complete turn around of the worlds superpower. Russia & China are laughing ...

ColourBlueColourPurple · 05/02/2025 20:51

What has he actually said about Gaza? I thought he wanted America to take control and oversee it's rebuilding. People here are talking about him turning it into some kind of Vegas with golf courses etc. Has he actually said that?

Exactly, this is straight out of the Bannon playbook. Though how this squares with the recent pissing contest between Musk and Bannon I don’t know.

Trump doesn’t give a shit about being President - his priorities are making as much money as possible and staying out of jail. Much like his buddy Netanyahu.

wordler · 05/02/2025 20:53

The overwhelm of constant declarations of all these insane ideas is part of a strategy to overwhelm the system.

Here’s Steve Bannon talking about it openly in 2018

This bit is at 1 hour 26 minute mark

I don't need to listen to LBC, there's enough of them here...

Ilovemytulips · 05/02/2025 20:56

He's crazy, do you think he will be impeached?
Also, I don't think many Israelis bar the extremists would approve of this either. What happens when he thinks there's not enough space in Gaza for his 'big' plans? Whose he coming for next?

It's madness.

Alongside Benjamin Netanyahu, Donald Trump suggested the US could “own” the Gaza Strip and turn it into "the Riviera of the Middle East".

Which tallies with what Kushner said last year.

It would be very handy for the US to own some land in the ME. Other countries where the US have bases may not always be stable. Iraq will eventually want to see the back of the US. Cyprus is always an interesting situation. US may want to cut off funds to Israel at some point.
Having their own real-estate with a lovely Riviera development and a huge military base must be very appealing.

Trump only does stuff he think benefit him.

He was elected by Americans to serve America. Really doesn’t matter what any of us overseas think -he is not our leader.

Thats incredibly naive

He has called it the 'new Riviera'. There have long been deeply unpleasant mutterings about the 'prime coastal real estate' of Gaza.

Trump has just said the quiet part out loud today (perhaps why Netanyahu looked a little surprised at the press conference).

He's a repulsive, senile old fool. However, I don't expect this offensive and insane plan will actually go anywhere. Much more worrying is what Musk and Vance are getting up to in the background whilst the world loses its shit over Trump's latest batshit ramblings.

Ilovemytulips · 05/02/2025 21:02

I am dismayed, but not surprised that many of his supporters haven't had their eyes opened yet.

Ilovemytulips · 05/02/2025 20:57

Yes, he actually has.

What a destination to add to his current collection of luxury golf resorts, The Trump, Gaza Strip...

ColourBlueColourPurple · 05/02/2025 21:05

Who will rebuild Gaza if America doesn't step in? Genuine question. Where would they get the money? International aid agencies?
