Every day waking up to yet another insane declaration from Trump. America is losing the respect of the world

It's like a parallel universe - how did America come to this? So now he plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza we are told - to create the 'Riviera of the Middle East.' A golf course and hotels probably. The £2 million people can just go wherever. Wtf! AIBU to think America is imploding in on itself?

Okay. I'll bite.

Enough with the orange insults

Enough with the exaggerations, like claiming he's going to build a golf course that covers half the world or some such ridiculousness.

Enough with the catastrophising.

The majority on this thread, and others like it, don't seem to realise their own extreme rhetoric has pushed an awful lot of Americans to vote for him.

Screaming, crying, shouting, throwing insults and making stuff up are not going to convince many to vote for those aligned with your viewpoint.

An awful lots of Americans are beginning to understand what a huge mistake they made voting for Trump. A wake up call!

Let's hope it is sooner rather than later. America needs to wake up quickly.

Can't imagine why, he's doing exactly what he said he'd do (plus a lot of power grabbing/anti democratic stuff that a child could have predicted).

All a distraction from the day to day lives of Americans with cost of living being forefront. We went over the border for lunch last week and prices are increasing- tariffs will hurt.

I wish you were right about people waking up to regret, but I just don't see the majority of his voters admitting anything. Most Americans seem to have no idea what's really happening. I've seen lots of people saying that local news isn't even covering what DOGE/Musk is doing. I worry that they are really good at manipulating things so it's always someone else's fault.

I very much doubt it. I can't imagine that people who voted for Trump keep up with current affairs.

Unfortunately you could be right there - many Americans are very insular .

You've no idea how much. I used to work in an American organisation and a colleague was shocked that we didn't study American history in school. They honestly see America as the centre of the universe.

I don't think that's reflected in polling. He's pretty much doing what voters gave mandate to do

Gosh, Mnetters are responsible for Trump's presidency? Catch yerself on.😆 The Republican Party, Putin and Trump voters are responsible for it. Nowt to do with our wee site here in the UK.

And in today's issue of "WTF has he done now?" we have this. Oopsie.😱

They've started cutting support for veterans. I hope they continue because there is no surer-fire way to turn Trump's support base against him.

HappyNewFeckingYear · 16/02/2025 13:45

So it appears that the two axis of world power (US & China) are being threatened by a third upcoming power - Mumsnet Grin
No wonder Justine wants us to pay.

I'd always thought that the third axis might one day be Europe up to the Urals.

IkeaJesusChrist · 16/02/2025 13:55

Word is that they're struggling to get back the nuclear workers that they fired.

Chickensilkie · 16/02/2025 14:01

@HappyNewFeckingYear well mn must be powerful enough for putin to apparently waste time sending Russian bots in to us

EasternStandard · 16/02/2025 14:09

Mn is like the reverse. The more US voters get the mandate they wanted the more threads and angry posts on here

Because what Trump is doing doesn't just affect the US. There could be ramifications for many other countries.

Serpentstooth · 16/02/2025 14:55

His days are numbered if he's sacked Homer Simpson.

Christ, I wish they would but half are too thick and the other half wouldn’t admit they’d made a mistake in a million years because they’re WINNERS! USA USA!

EasternStandard · 16/02/2025 16:15

@AllFurCoatAndFrillyKnickers I don't think it's a could it's an is and will

But that's slightly different to posts suggesting voters regret it as below. I think those who voted for this outcome there are pretty happy with getting on with the mandate

Mumsnet made you do it? Oh please! If you’re old enough to vote, you’re old enough to take responsibility for your own choices. My sympathy is reserved for the Americans who voted for Harris, or for any of the lesser-known candidates who aren’t on the far right.

Parker231 · 16/02/2025 17:02

We were at the 4Nations match between US and Canada last night (we won’t talk about the score!). Although I don’t agree with booing another country’s national anthem, the stadium was electric with the booing of the American national anthem (we were booing Trump and not Americans in general) and then the singing of O Canada 🇨🇦 the Americans hate that it is sung in French in Montreal. If nothing else Canadian is becoming more patriotic especially as it was Flag Day yesterday as well.

Loveumagenta · 16/02/2025 17:48

An American colleague once asked me if I didn’t think the USA was the greatest country in the world then WHICH country did I think was??
Then was jaw droppingly shocked to discover that I didn’t rhink any country was, not even my own. In fact none of us Europeans around that dinner table did.
Mind blown. And this was a man in his 40s in a senior role at a big company, albeit one who’d never been anywhere that required a passport … so conversation ended with him going ‘Well MUST be the US then,
hahahaha.’
moron.

Loveumagenta · 16/02/2025 17:52

The idea that EVERYTHING isn’t some kind of competition to be won all the time and with the winner usually have ALL the money and power… they just can’t get their heads around that. That it might okay to recognise that there are strengths and weaknesses in every nation, and fuck me sideways if money doesn’t actually mean you’re the ‘winner’.

Just saw a video of a punch up at ice hockey and brawl

Looked bad but also they were just left to battering each other, no one stepped in. Bizarre
