Natural deodorants - nice idea but just don't cut it?

I'm trying to reduce the amount of chemicals I use and decided to try an aluminium free deodorant (Biosen) and currently trying Wild - but the Biosen just doesn't work that well and I smell sweaty after a while and the Wild... well dear lord it certainly does smell wild after a few hours. I wouldn't even describe it as a sweat smell, just horrendous.

Has anyone tried Fussy? It's next on my list but wary of wasting my money!

This thread is old and I have probably already commented but have come on to say I still love fussy. I didn't try it to be natural. I was at my wits end with sudden onset BO (assume hormone related) and tried as a last resort and it's changed my life....no more having to wear short sleeves at work all the time as I needed to wash or spray middle day.

It did take some getting used to as still sweat, but the sweat doesn't smell. And it lasts for ages so hardly ever need to purchase the refills. Mitchum didn't work for me.

I used wild for a while, but gave up. Too expensive and I struggle with the device and I found that like the eco washing powders, it just doesn’t reach the spot.

Sure or Mitchum for me.

Sorry 😳

Elektra1 · 27/04/2025 08:26

I had Wild and it wasn’t very good, I’m not even a particularly sweaty person. Now I use AKT, which is amazing

Lemonyyy · 27/04/2025 08:32

I used wild for a bit but it was obviously blocking up my pores and I ended up with several large boils in my armpits….so never again! They’ve been bought out by Unilever now so I would’ve stopped buying anyway.

Blueuggboots · 28/04/2025 11:00

I stunk for about 2 weeks when I switched from Mitchum to wild, fortunately during lockdown?? But now, it’s fine. I do occasionally smell a bit sweaty in the morning but it washes off no problem….
I’m 50 and peri….

I tried all the natural deodorants as I hate the idea of toxic chemicals but yeah, none were effective and I couldn't walk around smelling like BO.

The one I liked was the Sure Zero Percent with aluminium but without parabens, phthalates etc. But they've stopped making it.

I so wanted to like AKT... I even feel slightly worse about myself than before, to think I'm sweatier and stinkier than actual West End dancers apparently.

Oh wow! I was coming on to recommend AKT as it works really well for me (unlike most things I’ve tried!). I also like Make Waves as I find that less fiddly to apply but AKT is the most effective without a hint of a whiff for me by even the next day.

By contrast, Wild and Fussy have both been useless on me.

I've tried Fussy and Wild and prefer Fussy. I love the smell of it. I find the lid annoying as I can't tell which end is which. I found Wild messy and sticky. Mind you I haven't experienced any hot weather yet so we'll see.

The word Fussy on the case is near the business end.

Has anyone tried MALIN+GOETZ? Either Eucalyptus or Bergamot

i initially use Pittrok (but when I dropped it and it smashed I switched to Wild. But now they’ve sold out to Unilever I want to switch. And Tisserand is hopeless!)

I have, nice smell, I like M&G's other products but it just didn't work for me. Consistency was like a cream stick which isn't an issue, more personal preference.

the80sweregreat · 01/08/2025 13:19

I can’t wear any smelly type perfumes or deodorants , but unscented Mitchum works ok. Not tried any others.

Blarn · 01/08/2025 13:56

I'm using Sure all over deodorant, the ones without aluminium. I've never been sweaty but I do smell, even with all the tips such as bars of soap flannels, double wash, cotton. Over the last year I think Ive entered peri and I've been really struggling with how my pits smell. The deo cream is really working for me (the solid stick less so). I'm still a bit sweaty but the smell is just slight BO, rather than the awful honk I had. My clothes don't smell either, I couldn't get rid of the smell before even on boil washes! I tried one the powerful overnight ones but they irritate my skin too much.

I had to add a Mitchum spray when I was travelling round a hot muggy London the other day. I used a regular antiperspirant yesterday in the house, one of those Sure intensive ones, and smelled horrible again. I think I'm reacting to something in the antiperspirant. Sprays less so which means I do at least have something to fall back on.
