Natural deodorants - nice idea but just don't cut it?

I'm trying to reduce the amount of chemicals I use and decided to try an aluminium free deodorant (Biosen) and currently trying Wild - but the Biosen just doesn't work that well and I smell sweaty after a while and the Wild... well dear lord it certainly does smell wild after a few hours. I wouldn't even describe it as a sweat smell, just horrendous.

Has anyone tried Fussy? It's next on my list but wary of wasting my money!

Interesting. 3 generations of a total of 5 women in my family using different scents of Fussy, and we love it. It keeps both actual sweating at bay, and remains smelling good between one shower to the next. DD1 just got the lime scented refill -gorgeous.

Sapphire29 · 05/02/2025 20:32

Does anyone use aluminum free suncream and can you recommend a brand?

Deodorant is just a scent. If you have stinky pits then an anti-perspirant is what you need. Only 1 works for and it's the Vichy roll on (red top). It works 48 hrs - not a whiff whatsoever. And clothes last more than 1 wear as no smelly pits either.

Fussy does a decent job of keeping me dry, though I’m not that sweaty.

Woodywoodpecker321 · 05/02/2025 20:40

Wild stopped working for me so I switched to Fussy which works well. However the main thing for me I found was my hair removal method from my armpits. Once I started waxing/epilating (used to shave) I was fresher for longer

LittleRedYarny · 05/02/2025 20:55

Hated wild, the scents were lovely but it absolutely ruined my clothes and I could not get the smell out, it left a rancid smell.

Much happier with AKT and I find it gives good long lasting scent/protection at nearly 24 hours and doesn’t leave a rancid smell behind.

I use nuud and love it
A tiny tube lasts me about four or five months, as (now that I've used it for a while) I only need to apply it once a week.

Neal's Yard deodorants are not worth using imo. I haven't tried wild or fussy. I used to use bionsen, and got on fine with it, but nuud is better.

Nuud is the pinnacle of natural deodorants. It's faultless.

Wonderwall23 · 05/02/2025 21:02

I like Fussy and find it works. I tried it as I was suddenly struggling with BO and thought anything was worth a shot.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 05/02/2025 21:03

I love the smell of Fussy deodorants. Maybe it depends on the scent as I've had the jasmine and coconut and the scent lasts for me. I also like the novelty ones they put out; toffee apple for Halloween, gingerbread for Christmas etc.

tillyandmilly · 05/02/2025 21:05

Pitrok Amazon £4.99 - works brilliantly- I am overweight and get very hot when walking!

LudditeHere · 05/02/2025 21:05

Salt of the earth roll on is the only one that makes me feel confident post meno. Tried loads and always felt I smelled after a short time.

AsFunAsEnglishWeather · 05/02/2025 21:09

Aurelia natural deodorant is amazing stuff. Not cheap, but a pot lasts ages.

Broop · 05/02/2025 21:13

I’ve been a fan of pitrok for years: it works better the more you use it.
I think Nuud has been banned in France because it was causing armpit cysts, seems like even going natural has pitfalls (pun not intended!)

IsItSummerSoon · 05/02/2025 21:19

Just this morning I threw in the towel and binned my Wild deodorant. It just does not work. My clothes smell, my bedding smells, and I’m not even a very sweaty person. The final straw was when I took my washing out of the machine and it still smelled. I REALLY want it to work, and it just doesn’t.

Echobelly · 05/02/2025 21:27

I'm really liking Fussy. It's not cheap but works better than an standard deodorant I've used. Saw me through a round of job interviews where I'd normally be sweating like anything and I was fine. Obviously, these things work differently on different people, though.

Loveautumnhatewinter · 05/02/2025 21:36

fussy is the only one that works for me.

Tubbyinthehottub · 05/02/2025 21:44

I use the Smol one. It's an antiperspirant and deodorant and it's brilliant. I don't know why they don't advertise it more. I used Wild for a bit, the Smol one is loads better and it doesn't irritate me. No plastic at all either.

Burntt · 05/02/2025 22:33

I use wild. There was an adjustment period where I thought it wasn't working and was just using it up to try something else then noticed it was working. Every time I use a different deodorant I notice I have to adjust again. I read somewhere that non natural deodorants actually make you smell so you need to use them more that's why initially when you stop you do smell but once you adjust you smell much less. That's been my experience anyway.

Never use wild if not freshly washed though! Or the stick smells of BO you just rub back on next time you use it.

BlackSheepThisYear · 05/02/2025 22:50

Make Waves is excellent. I use the anti perspiration one.
Tried Wild and Fussy but both irritated my skin and ruined my clothes with grease stains.

SabbatWheel · 05/02/2025 23:02

I've used Fussy since lockdown, they work well for me. Wide range of scents online and a limited range now available in Sainsbury's (not sure about other supermarkets).

TheQueensCousin · 05/02/2025 23:17

I had lots of hand sanitizer left over and started to use this as deodorant. I squirt a dollop on a reusable makeup pad and wipe under my pits. This kills the bacteria and stops you smelling! Game changer!

Fizbosshoes · 05/02/2025 23:44

I bought a "natural" deodorant a couple of years ago.
I don't think I'm a particularly stinky person but it was awful. I honestly think it made me smell 10 x more BOey than if I'd simply not worn any deodorant at all (which would probably be more eco!)
It hasn't encouraged me to try any others, I now just buy sure/sanex or whatever is on special offer

I bought DH a bamboo sanex deodrant, he hated it and said it didn't work, and made him smell awful

I've used a mineral stick for about 20 years. Never let me town and it's chemical free.

How can it be chemical free? It's literally a mineral stick - the clue is in the name! The mineral is likely to be a salt of aluminium or zirconium, so absolutely chemicals. Incidentally, nothing is chemical free ‐ everything - you, me, water, air, tofu, apples, your telly, are all made of chemicals.

CeceliaImrie · 06/02/2025 00:47

@IAmTerrible

It's Salt of the Earth.

100% natural origin deodorant - Free from Aluminium Chlorohydrate, alcohol and synthetic chemicals, it's 100% natural, gentle on your skin and made with natural mineral salt.

Sorry this has upset you. I was under the impression it was ok to say what I use to the OP.

Thebrandnewdeal · 06/02/2025 00:59

I’ve always had to use natural deodorants because I’m allergic to aluminum, and I get scabby pits if I use any ‘normal‘ ones.

Hate Wild, did nothing at all. I’ve always found Bionsen pretty good. The other one I really rate is the Weleda citrus pump one, it’s pricey but smells lush and it works.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/02/2025 06:15

I've had no problems with Wild. Been using it around 3 years. I wash with a vegan cleansing bar, I wonder if that makes a difference?
