Why are you awake?

I fell asleep on the sofa. I've got myself to bed and found myself wide awake.

I'm worrying about work and working from home tomorrow (we have a hybrid approach at work which works OK when staffing levels in the office are managed by mamagement).

Stress levels are making me want to wee all the time and I dribbled a bit when I got up off the sofa earlier. The quick ahower has woken me up good and proper. Now I have a slight stomach pain and feel bloated.

Hmppph.

I didn’t feel particularly well yesterday afternoon, so had a couple of hours nap on the bed. I didn’t feel much better afterwards, and now there’s the inevitable knock-on effect of being wide awake. And my husband is snoring louder than usual, too, so I’m considering going downstairs for tea and toast. I just need to summon up the willpower, cos I’m actually quite warm and comfortable…

I'm thinking of tea and toast too. If you go for it, I will!

I'm awake because I am in a different time zone.

Oooh can you say where you are without outing yourself?

The cat. He needed the light turning on to go downstairs apparently.

Ha ha ha ha 😂

DH was called out to a job (emergency services) and I woke up as he was going out the door. I’m now not tired! And hungry …

Are you joining us in the tea and toast club to satisfy your hunger?

My sleep patterns have been off since my husband died 4 yrs ago. Even prior to that, it was off - he used to have to get up during the night and latterly he needed my help.

Did try sleeping tablets for a while, but I was aware (and wary) of becoming too reliant on them.

I'm sorry to hear that. Have you tried lavender spray or essential oil to help with sleep? How are you coping with your bereavement?

Up feeding the baby. Back at work in 3 weeks...🙈🧟‍♀️

Giggorata · 05/02/2025 02:11

Since I retired I've reverted to being semi nocturnal. I've been painting the inside of some cupboards and have just got into bed with my Kindle.
But ooh, tea and toast…

Anxiety. Worrying about everything going on.

Acidy tummy. Probably from new anxiety meds.

What's on your mind?

Hope your acid tummy clears up soon and you manage to rest.

I've been doing some work I need to send off first thing in the morning. I don't work all evening but find I'm quite productive at about 10pm due to the panic of the deadline!

Edited

Eeeek! Is it an early morning for you too tomorrow to get up for work?

DH is full up of a cold and snoring his head off.. I’ve taken myself off to the spare room but I had to put the light on to move some clean washing off the bed.. serves me right for not putting it away this afternoon 🙄 so now I’m wide awake and I can still hear him snoring through the wall

Oh no! Can you spray him with water? Or bang some pans over his head?

Stayed up too late watching Greys Anatomy. Can't sleep now and DH snoring his head off next to me.

Oh another snorer!

I'm a dreadful sleeper but when my DP is on nights I've been staying up watching tv etc until at least 2am. No idea why. But now I'm really bloody hungry.

I have to be up with the kids early tomorrow and then off down to work in London for rest of week so I should be getting some sleep.

Went to look for some paperwork 10mins ago and heard a baby crying. I don't have a baby! Checked on the kids and nothing amiss. Not the first time I've heard it and no one nearby has a baby. The house is 300yrs old though ......

IncaDove · 05/02/2025 02:18

I’m feeling really anxious and I’m not sure why. It’s always worse at nights.

OhMaria2 · 05/02/2025 02:19

Because I have to get up at a certain time tomorrow so now i cant sleep. I've always been like this, it drives me potty.

That's kind of you. Yes, I've tried lavender oil. It soothes a bit.

I find that the best course of action is to wait until I'm really tired and then play a recording of my husband singing.

So far as the bereavement is concerned, I'm better than I was. It happened during a New Year bank holiday, so the worst is getting through that season. I'm over the hump now.

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 05/02/2025 02:23

Arrived at Disneyland yesterday and spent the day in the parks. With getting to Folkestone, the drive (even though I was a passenger 🤣) and the nerves, I'd had 45 minutes nap in 48 hours, so I fell asleep at 7pm and woke up at 3 😴

DimplesToadfoot · 05/02/2025 02:28

My painkillers have worn off and pain has woken me, as I'm not due any more painkillers until 8am that's me up and awake for the day now :-( I'm grateful I managed to get a few hours of sleep though

forgivingfiggy · 05/02/2025 02:29

No idea. The last 4 or 5 nights I have slept terribly, and now not falling asleep at all. Nothing on my mind. Working tomorrow so have to be up. Got up 10 minutes ago and ate a snack a Jack, but now I'm reading about tea and toast and thinking about marmalade...

Hufflemuff · 05/02/2025 02:49

Just can't seem to sleep through. I wake at 2am ready to actually get up. I keep falling asleep at 9.30pm because I get into bed and get cosy.

I've been in a bad pattern of taking cocodomol to "sleep through" which worked thr last 2 nights and I've been waking at 5.30 instead of 2ish, but apparently not that lucky tonight.

So I'll probably stay awake now till fucking 5am then fall back to sleep and wake in a panic at 7am and feel crap all day!

The problem is my brain is just too active at this time, so I think of dozens of work things i need to get done, change, email this and that off etc... i also get into a patten of thinking of the same thing over and over again like playing back a 20 second clip. Not anxiety and I really love my job, so I don't know what to do about it.

Bereftandalone · 05/02/2025 02:49

Anxiety and depression. Also, terrible nightmares wake me when I do manage to fall asleep. Wish I could just sleep/ not wake up for a few months.

Febbers · 05/02/2025 02:50

Time of the month and I need to change due to leakage. BlushCame downstairs to try not to disturb family (to our classy clean washing pile). Got as far as stair two to go back up before breathlessness and nausea have overtaken me. I need to rest and go super slow or will be sick on stairs (thank you long covid). Now tempted to doze here!

I cannot wait to being semi-noctural, without relying to have to get up for the pay check. I love the night time hours, slightly ironic, because I used to be scared of the dark as a child (irrationally with no negative factors involved).

Bereftandalone · 05/02/2025 02:51

I also have chronic pain issues so that keeps me up, too.

So you’re lying on the stairs using Mumsnet?

Slept good long this morning so now can't sleep 😭
