I imagine that a large majority look and dress like Carolyn Harris as well as unfortunately having the same political views.

I would have thought you were somewhat adverse to lettuce.

No, I'm very resilient - rather like an iceberg and the Titanic.

Not very incisive.

Well your list was very thorough it did sound like you were listing your own attributes. Tbh as you are on munsnet therefore a 'mumsnetter' it isn't a stretch is it.

I wasn't being serious. It's impossible to know what a typical member of a large forum looks like.

Nbhkw · 02/02/2025 09:50

I always assume granny knickers

Crikeyalmighty · 02/02/2025 10:51

@Bixaweet Ha, ha - I actually think I'm Liz in personality but with more cash - although older and I look like none of them

overthinkersanonnymus · 02/02/2025 11:50

Bixaweet · 02/02/2025 02:22

In Motherland terms:

Think they're Liz
Believe deep down they're probably Julia
Secretly wish to be Amanda
Are actually Anne

Yes!

Devilgate · 02/02/2025 11:57

OK PLEEEEASE forgive my ignorance here

BUT - what channel was Motherland shown on?

I’ve seen SO many references to the show on MN but I’ve never seen it !

I’ve only got Freeview and tbh … I aspire to watch shows like -

The 2 Ronnies
Cannon and Ball
Little and Large

like it’s 1983 or something…

but seriously- if someone could answer my question I’d be very grateful

I think the typical MNs is older than the media image if that makes sense so they are 55/60 as opposed to a 35 old with small dc.

Us old tlmers were all in our 30's when MN started a couple of decades ago

MasterBeth · 02/02/2025 12:06

There is no typical Mumsnetter.

Your answer to the question depends on what threads you are reading, what piques your interest and what you pay attention to.

And when I went to the London meet-ups for the Christmas party's, donkeys years ago, we were all so different. So glam. We scrub up well!

We still are Wink

I think it used to be women in their forties, size 12/14, 3 exceptionally bright DC, professional job, DH who cycles.

More recently it feels like its:

  • mum of 2 kids, at least one with some form of SEN/disability, usually autism, adhd or both.
  • works part time or mostly from home in a public sector role
  • shops in aldi/lidl
  • thinks 30k is a decent wage and that two people on 40k in london should be rolling in it
  • takes DC out for term time holidays
  • is mostly vegetarian
  • lives in a blended family (or ex-h does).

I never shop in Lidl
I’m more likely to stand on the high street and play a fiddle!

You can watch Motherland on BBC iplayer.

I hadn't watched it until about 6 months ago and then I binged watched the lot because it's so addictive!

Well worth it though 🤣

Many years ago, MN appeared to have a lot of Kirstie Allsopp types. Boden has now been replaced by Toast, jumpsuits and wide legged cropped trousers.
There also appears to now be a lot of people my teenagers would describe as 'basics' - leggings, AF1s, expensive cars, highlights and Botox.
I have always been more of the chubby bag lady look described by a pp, although I am 5'7 (which I think is very average).

FictionalCharacter · 02/02/2025 12:37

Headingtowardsdivorce · 01/02/2025 21:49

I don't think there is a typical mumsnetter and I roll my eyes when someone starts talking about the women and men who post on here as though they're all the same and think the same.

Yep! It’s really bad to think of forum users as some kind of uniform mass. There’s no “typical” here, you only have to read a sample of posts on the different topics to see that there’s a huge diversity of lifestyles, experience, and opinion.

Itiswhysofew · 02/02/2025 12:38

I just imagine the various women you see everyday. But somehow, I dont imagine very wealthy looking women would be on here.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 02/02/2025 12:42

There's an obsession with class(and wealth) on here, I think it gives people a slightly warped view of who posts on here.

lol I’m 5 ft 1 - so you probably don’t see me as very average!
