Alice is 35 and lives in Clapham with her selfish pig DH and her 3 EBF triplets: Zanzibar, Coquette and Fungus. Her MiL is an interfering cow who thinks Alice is a drip. Alice is going to stand up to her when she no longer needs the childcare.

Sarah can't remember how old she is or how many children she has because she hasn't slept a full night in 10 years. She might have a DP or a DH but whoever he is, he's useless. Sarah does something in an office during the hours she's not ferrying hordes of children around to nursery, to school, from school, to swimming, to piano, to football, to parties... When she finally sits down at night she drinks white wine and argues with people on the Internet.

Lisa is 50 and sick to death of everyone. Any minute now she's going tell her boss to shove his job up his arse. Lisa's 'hubby' whistles in the mornings and it drives her up the wall. Lisa spends her restless nights planning to LTB. Lisa is thinking of asking her GP about HRT.

Blair is 45 and feeling 55 because he's so sick to death of those annoying, man hating women who get on Mumsnet and talk about everything wrong their previous husbands, but don't even bother to mention that they have been at fault for their actions. too. He lives in Clapham with two teen children for half the week, although lately they've been staying at their mother's home as they've been busy with social and part time work activities. He doesn't know why he's on Mumsnet really, but it's just something to keep him entertained.
John is 64, and lives in Cornwell , and he has a laugh reading the comments in Mumsnet and started posting on Mumsnet because he wanted to have a laugh, plus it's important there is a male point of view after all.
Hamish is 56 and lives in West Bromwich with his male partner and children and pet Yorkshire terrier. He loves being a Dad and has a great relationship with his children, looks on lots of different parenting websites for tips and guidance, and sometimes posts on Mumsnet for some light entertainment with a bit of pointless drama

Who knows what Mumsnetters look like, probably everyone and anyone.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 02/02/2025 02:30

Female
Middle aged
Blonde
5ft 0
Size 5
Trousers, feminine, whatever I can get in the sale
Sensible at work, definitely not out of work
Non smoker - have you seem the cost? Non drinker - one drink and I'm pissed so no point. Neither due to consideration of appearance

arcticpandas · 02/02/2025 06:19

You pretty much nailed it for me @Devilgate ! But I'm a sahm and I'm not yet gray even though it's started..

Gallowayan · 02/02/2025 06:53

There seems to be a consensus of opinion that she must have small feet? 😂Would love to know why this might be?

littleburn · 02/02/2025 07:58

Guys, I've never given a thought to your shoe size. Is there something wrong with me?

lljkk · 02/02/2025 08:02

Plump, 30 something, white, straight brown hair, not long.
Clothes I wouldn't notice but they may think are noticeable.

(same as description of the average mother of a 2-8 yr old in UK)

MrsSethGecko · 02/02/2025 08:06

@chollysawcutt just want to say I love the username Grin

I always think every mumsnetter except for me is like Margo Leadbetter, wafting around in something impractical and super expensive.
She has tweakments and some very well done botox that no one but her knows about (they do!).
She is naturally slim and willowy and cannot fathom how people get fat, in fact seeing a fat person repulses her.
She wears expensive but frumpy shoes.

RosesAndHellebores · 02/02/2025 08:29

@Devilgate why do you think MNetter's have big feet?

Hellohellobello · 02/02/2025 08:33

Devilgate · 01/02/2025 21:43

Also - not overweight or unhealthily thin

Have you been on the weight loss board??!!

Yes actually there’s some truth in this tbh

I think it used to be women in their forties, size 12/14, 3 exceptionally bright DC, professional job, DH who cycles.

More recently it feels like its:

  • mum of 2 kids, at least one with some form of SEN/disability, usually autism, adhd or both.
  • works part time or mostly from home in a public sector role
  • shops in aldi/lidl
  • thinks 30k is a decent wage and that two people on 40k in london should be rolling in it
  • takes DC out for term time holidays
  • is mostly vegetarian
  • lives in a blended family (or ex-h does).

Yes !! I have !!! I frequently look at it for inspiration ideas - ironic I know !!

For me - typical would definitely be home made fibre clothes - which I know a lot of you have mentioned upthread and yes - the most prominent feature is the tall, average weight - not at all visibly overweight but the larger than average feet and flat shoes - Size 7!

RosesAndHellebores · 02/02/2025 08:29

@Devilgate why do you think MNetter's have big feet?

This is a very good question - but this is the most prominent feature I see !!

I visualise myself saying something daft and this tall, middle class, average weight female mumsnetter in natural fibre clothes and Size 7 feet trying to ‘rein me in’ as it were

I always imagine a slightly neurotic middle aged woman. A bit of a busybody, a bit overweight, frazzled, hates dogs and most of hers and her husband's extended family. Constantly obsessed with whether people are rude and is unable the assert any kind of boundaries.

Aged 42 and wouldn't say boo to a goose. Constantly wringing hands about how hard done by they are but runs themselves ragged as people take advantage.

Has feral children they smile at indulgently and a husband who is completely disengaged from family life.

Has no outside interests and life revolves completely around their house. Washing machine constantly on, always monitoring the house in case anything is out of place or there are crumbs.

Mother in Law and disengaged husband are completely enmeshed and she feigns illness to control him.

Mumsnetter has put up with her barbed comments and constant put downs for years, has tied themselves into knots to accommodate her to no avail. Cannot understand why MIL is so nasty when MN is so nice.

Absolutely obsessed with class. Can't sleep because she is convinced she's not middle class enough. Has all the indicators of the middle class but wonders if people see through her.

Loves animals, phone is full of pictures of animals and takes their gassy dog everywhere. Can't say no to her dog in case dog is traumatised, so dog bites toddlers.
