Would you go ahead with birthday party today ? DD vomited

cameheredor · 01/02/2025 06:07

It's my DD 5th bday party today.

Huge party- 30 kids. It's at a venue with entertainers etc.

Last night she threw up at around 6pm and then again at 10pm. No fever and has been sleeping soundly since.

Would you cancel the party ?

I'm thinking to see how the morning goes, as the party isn't until 2 and then, go from there.

You'd be really unreasonable not to cancel, but it sounds like you are going to be really unreasonable so hopefully none of the guests have baby siblings or vulnerable grandparents because you are risking other peoples health here .

YouZirName · 01/02/2025 06:39

You're clearly not going to listen to anyone, so there was really no point creating this thread or continuing to engage, is there?

YABU, by the way.

Overthebow · 01/02/2025 06:35

Why ask if you’re just going to do it anyway?

Yes, this is one of those threads where the OP seems to have already made up her mind what to do and is not to be swayed!

Bigfellabamboo · 01/02/2025 06:40

My daughter has an invite to a 5th birthday at 2pm today, hope it's not this one....
Id cancel, no way id risk it.

PlanningTowns · 01/02/2025 06:40

Message the guests (parents) and let them decide whether to send their children. That way you’re giving them choice.

some kids are sick and there is nothing wrong others aren’t. It’s very difficult to tell.

I think you're all OTT and unreasonable.

I'll let you know what happens ! I'll keep it updated next week to let you know if everyone got sick ( they won't ).

At least let your guests know about the vomiting (I know you have already spoken to 10 but I'd message everyone)

I wouldnt go to a party where a child has vomited twice the night before and I'd definitely want to be told so I could make the decision

This ^

Girlmath · 01/02/2025 06:42

If all the children are sick afterwards don't worry, it won't be a bug they'll have just eaten too much party food and cake. Nothing to see here.

Honestly I don't know why you asked OP you don't want to hear anyone else's perspective anyway!

I clicked on your post because my DD is going to a party today and it made me wonder. I fully appreciate cancelling would be a wrench but it's the right thing to do for the party guests sake and their family at home.

Some sense ! It IS possible that it's not a virus. If the vomiting continues and if there are other symptoms- cancel.

Happy to let everyone know! Also, I've told so many people anyway. They're all being level headed about it.

waitingforoneday · 01/02/2025 06:43

There’s no way I’d cancel it <ducks>

Hatemyhair123 · 01/02/2025 06:43

This is basically a plot line from motherland.

Overthebow · 01/02/2025 06:35

Why ask if you’re just going to do it anyway?

Because apparently none of us are real life people 🙄 (unless we agree with the op of course )

Yellow2024 · 01/02/2025 06:45

Is it perhaps from excitement?
If not then yes you'll have to postpone.

Jeezitneverends · 01/02/2025 06:46

cameheredor · 01/02/2025 06:11

Not at all ! That's such BS.

Why did you even bother asking? At the very least you need to send a message along the lines of “dd was sick a couple of times last night, she’s fine now so party going ahead but wanted you to know”

Fargo79 · 01/02/2025 06:46

What is the point of this thread? You think anybody who doesn't share your opinion is wrong so why ask? Bizarre.

luckylavender · 01/02/2025 06:47

cameheredor · 01/02/2025 06:16

Oh dear. She had a big lunch that sat in her stomach ( from a restaurant ) cupcake after.

I think that's the cause, not a bug.

That's a possibility

JustMyView13 · 01/02/2025 06:47

You might have a hunch that she overate at lunch, but you have no way of knowing for sure.

Norovirus is rife at the moment. The guidance is isolate for 48hrs after sickness. But you’re right, in the real world a lot of people don’t care to follow it and are happy to spread bugs around.

I do think it’s selfish to go ahead. Unless your child has a known medical condition which causes them to vomit, you have no way of knowing it’s not a stomach bug or food poisoning.
If you sent a text this morning to the parents letting them know, I’m sure you’d get a bunch of drop outs. Particularly from those due to see elderly grandparents this weekend also.

disabledanddesperate · 01/02/2025 06:49

If you think your attitude is the reasonable one OP, why not give your invitees the full information (“vomited twice in the night four hours apart”, not “sick after a big lunch”) and let them decide?

If we’re all overreacting and your friends are sensible, they’ll all agree with you, right?

Lanawashington · 01/02/2025 06:49

OP - would you cancel this party?
Everyone - yes
OP - well I’m not going to

What was even the point in asking?

roselilylavender · 01/02/2025 06:50

Given you're determined to carry on with the party, I think the least you can do is inform the guests and give them the choice. That way, anyone who has vulnerable family members or just doesn't want the hassle can make up their own minds whether to take the risk.
In my opinion, vomiting several hours after a meal and then again a couple of hours later are classic symptoms of a bug and the type of situation the 48 hour rule is in place for. Both of my DC get travel sickness, if we'd been on a journey with lots of windy roads and they vomited but were otherwise fine, we'd ignore the 48 hour rule. If we'd been on a journey largely with motorways, we knew it was probably because of travel sickness but couldn't be certain so would keep them home.

rach7979 · 01/02/2025 06:52

The point of the thread is?

Yogaatsunrise · 01/02/2025 06:52

I would go ahead if she wakes up well. She is probably going to be fine tbh!

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 01/02/2025 06:53

OP I agree people on here are so over cautious. Kids do sometimes throw up and it isn't a virus, and there will be god knows how many germs at a soft play centre anyway 😂

I wouldn't cancel

movinghouse12 · 01/02/2025 06:53

There is no way we would come to your child's party if I knew this info. Two vomits hours apart? No.

no not everyone
