Did any of you watch this last night?

I was sobbing. Big, heaving sobs, which I couldn't control. Thank goodness for DH and his strong embrace although he was telling me that I am WAY too sensitive on things like this.

But am I?

Those poor kids.

Missed this, what was it about?

CombustibleLemon · 07/05/2008 11:15

Explain please. I didn't see it.

LynetteScavo · 07/05/2008 11:15

Didn't see it....what was it about?

GooseyLoosey · 07/05/2008 11:19

Think she might be referring to this

Lauriefairycake · 07/05/2008 11:20

It's a bunch of absolute loons American evangelical Christians who send there children to a camp which is focused on what I think is brainwashing as it's constant "message".

We don't have it in this country, instead we have things like Spring Harvest which is a week away at Butlins with lots of activities and some church services in the evening. It's also liberal and they don't preach anti-abortion, anti-homosexuality, anti-the-world.

I think young minds are very vulnerable so I would never send them on the American version.

I'm a Christian and I despise the views spouted in that programme

CombustibleLemon · 07/05/2008 11:21

Oh, I remember hearing about that when it came out.

UnquietDad · 07/05/2008 11:21

I thought "Jesus Camp" was a fashion for flowing robes, beards and sandals affected by metrosexual men.

Sorry for being flippant.

Iamthedoctor · 07/05/2008 11:23

Gooseyloosey- thats the one.

It was horrible. SOme ugly fat old woman shouting at these children (aged, I guess, from 4 - 16) that they were going to hell, that that the devil would torture them if they didnt repent. She spouted that Happy Potter would be put to death if he was real and anyone reading it was living in sin.

I am weelling up just thinking about it.

GooseyLoosey · 07/05/2008 11:25

There is something very distasteful about children being taught to hold such strong views and not to tolerate any other view.

Lauriefairycake · 07/05/2008 11:26

Yep, I got so angry with that woman I didn't want to pray for her, I wanted to kick her fucking head in

LynetteScavo · 07/05/2008 11:27

Having read that link, its's not something I would want my children involved in, but I'm sure there are worse ways to raiswe a child.

Citronella · 07/05/2008 11:28

I agree with Lauriefairycake. This is not the kind of evangelical Christianity I have experienced in this country. I attend an evangelical Christian church with my kids and the focus is on bible teaching (rather than blind following) and not all hellfire and brimstone at all.
I didn't see the programme just the trailer but I could guess just from that that they were ott.

Iamthedoctor · 07/05/2008 11:29

Lynette - it was vile.

sagitta · 07/05/2008 11:41

Iamthedoctor - I was appalled too. I had tears in my eyes. How can anyone do this to their children?

DrNortherner · 07/05/2008 11:46

I switched off after seeing a 9 year old preaching about God to some unsuspecting visitor in a bloody bowling alley. And then her dad telling her how fab it was she could see God was looking at this woman.

A unch of absolute loons the lot of them.

Iamthedoctor · 07/05/2008 11:51

If anything is interested, there is loads on youtube. Just type in 'jesus camp.'

Have to run, just had call from school and DD not well.

PMSL at the comparison to Spring Harvest. But then I can't stand Spring Harvest, either.

Iklboo · 07/05/2008 13:50

It was bad enough at the beginning when she was blessing the chairs, the electrics and the power point presentation. I though 'enough - woman is clearly (ahem) different'. If I'd have carried on watching it I'd probably have ended up kicking the tv in

LynetteScavo · 07/05/2008 19:52

I checked out youtube....bizare

GordontheGopher · 07/05/2008 19:56

It's on catch-up tv if you have it.

geekymummy · 07/05/2008 19:57

Ahem - as a evangelical Christian myself, may I say that the Jesus Camp lot are most definitely on the loony fringe!

AitchTwoCiao · 07/05/2008 20:03

i switched it off, the constant shots of weeping, terrified young girls were making me sick.

BouncingTurtle · 07/05/2008 20:04

Yep, another evangelical Christian here! Don't lump us in with those brainwashing freaks!!!

nickytwotimes · 07/05/2008 20:05

Just read Unquietdads joke!

I agree though. Those kind of peopl egive relogion a bad name.

expatinscotland · 07/05/2008 20:05

I caught glimpses of it.

Had a chuckle at the end, however, when there was a postscript about the preacher dude's having been caught with meth and a male prostitute.
