This is mine,£285 and I wouldn't say it has been particularly cosy warm.

We set the thermo to 15 at night and up to 17 in the afternoon to take the chill off and get the radiators warmer.

This is for a 1930 three bed semi.

It isnt going to get better is it?

Two bed end terrace, £85 including VAT. Then I'll get a £12 - £17 rebate for not using energy in peak hours.

Hemlocked · 29/01/2025 22:17

£100 all in. 2 bed flat. I have the heating on thermostat at 19.5 in the day (WFH full time) and 16 at night.

£199.4 plus standing charge so far in January. For gas only.

An outrageous amount. Shocking, really.

I can’t stand it.

That's horrendous!

Mine was an insane £266 for electric and £274 for gas do I win 😭 . I do have an electric car but it is crazy prices I have been emailing octopus today about it. I pay £360 dd ever month. My work colleagues couldn’t believe it. I usually average around £400

Octopus is expensive because you're paying extra for all their 'green energy' stuff.

Nonsense. They’re charging much the same as everyone else, and quite a bit less on some of their smart tariffs.

£170 for both gas and electricity. 3 bed semi. Heating on for a few hours each day at least. Tumble dryer used daily. South facing living room with glass patio doors so gets the sun most of the day and heats the room nicely.

AuntieMarys · 01/02/2025 08:05

Sent meter readings in yesterday to Octopus....bill last night £246 for both for January.
Heating has been on 7 till 7 most days. 3 bedroom house, 2 of us.

Skethylita · 01/02/2025 09:13

My prediction of around £180 was correct. However, it also already puts me in debit and we're only in February. Clearly Eonnext have not worked out my usage correctly, because we didn't even have a particularly cold autumn or winter up until now. So the next 2-3 months will be interesting until my solar panels are able to take the load off my electricity bill and I won't need to use gas as much anymore.

On a different note, I read today that it's looking more likely the UK will become up to 5C colder with climate change. The future will be interesting indeed.

Helpfullright · 01/02/2025 09:19

gas £141
electric £136

includes

2 x full car charges
4/5 bed house
21 in day on/off as work from home
18 over night
tumbeldryer that never stops with kids!

2 bed flat (new build 2018), underfloor heating and a teenager who loves a long shower. In December we spent 134 euros / 112 pounds but the heating has been on pretty much the whole month, the thermostat is set to 19,5 degrees because 18,5 is the average ambient temperature. DD being a vampire (blockout curtains always being closed) and me being menopausal and prone to hot flushes have also been to our financial benefit.

I used to be neurotic about the heating but I can’t be bothered now, especially when the heating is only on for three months of the year.

I’ve finally accepted that the days of the december and January bills being under 90 euros / 75 pounds are over. If I was still living in my last apartment the current energy costs would have bankrupted me, so I am very happy that when I moved six years ago, energy efficiency was my priority.

It's been a pricey month. 🥶

Around £110 a month for both. We don't have the heating on at all overnight and maybe for two hours at 18 during the day.

We're in a terrace so benefit from our neighbours!

Rosings25 · 01/02/2025 10:20

£150 for the month, this will be our highest bill for the year. 3 bed semi, in north Scotland at 20 degrees in the upstairs livingroom 24/7, bedrooms downstairs tend to sit at 18 degrees. Just had the loft reinsulated and new windows so I've ddownloaded at the energy info since Dec 2023 so as to have some comparison. temperatures have rarely been above zero 18 hours of each day.

What do you mean 'this isn't going to get better'.

That period included over a week of some of the coldest weather that we've had for years, plus you were likely at home more over Christmas.

Your next ten bills at least will probably all be lower than that.

She means bill's aren't going back to what they were 5 years ago.
E.g I used to pay £50 for both, now its £200.

A big increase for people in that period of time. Wages haven't gone up accordingly, obviously.
