This is mine,£285 and I wouldn't say it has been particularly cosy warm.

We set the thermo to 15 at night and up to 17 in the afternoon to take the chill off and get the radiators warmer.

This is for a 1930 three bed semi.

It isnt going to get better is it?

Haven't had mine yet but last month was £77 and my usage this month has been less so probably around £70.

1 bed 1930s house

AKAanothername · 29/01/2025 17:11

Total £467 for Jan, £98 electric and £369 gas.

L-shaped 4 bed detached, heating permanently on but thermostat adjusts through the night and day from 18-20 degrees. Direct debit is £230 per month.

Bill for January isn't in yet but December was £282. 1930s 5 bed semi. Heating at 15 overnight and 16 during the day. Might push it up to 17/18 if really cold. No tumble drier but use dehumidifier to dry clothes. We would have previously run the heating at 20 over the winter without a thought.

That’s not very warm - 18 daytime downstairs and 16 at night but we override those temperatures up to 20-21 as needed in the day and evening.

WarriorForRent · 29/01/2025 17:13

Total £164.92. Gas was £93.15 and was solely for the benefit of my baby, I personally didn't feel warm or cosy at all for that price but DC did, which was my main concern.

SoulMole · 29/01/2025 17:14

£153 for both. Three bed 50s semi. Two adults, one teen. One hour a day of heating unless we get truly desperate. Try not to use the dryer.

That sounds miserable!

£475 for both gas & electric, 4 bed 1930's detached house. Heating thermostat is set at 18 and increases to 20 for a few hours late afternoon/early evening. Never use the tumble dryer but have a teenage son who takes long showers.
Hoping a few more posters have similar high bills to make me feel a bit better....

Calliecarpa · 29/01/2025 17:21

From 1 January up till yesterday, my usage was just over £30 in electricity and just under £48 in gas for a two-bed house, but I have the heating on a lot less than many people (though it's on at least a couple of times every day). I don't have a tumble dryer or dishwasher. In December the total usage was £72 and a few pence, but by the end of January it'll be more like £82 or £85 for the month.

FraterculaArctica · 29/01/2025 17:26

£243 for both, 4 bed 1930s semi. Am cold in it most of the time at the moment but won't put the heating up more until we've got the wall insulation sorted.

caringcarer · 29/01/2025 17:27

£404 for gas and electric combined. Dec and January were both high because of the colder weather. November only £311. Summer months were only around £140-£160. I'm not being at home in the cold. I pay extra money in the summer to cover the higher winter months.

InvisibleStrings · 29/01/2025 17:28

Elec £58, Gas £34, one bed flat thermostat set to 17degrees

NotTheFreudYoureLookingFor · 29/01/2025 17:29

£333 for both. 4 bedroom flat with high ceilings. Two adults and 2-3 teenagers. Fairly liberal with the heating as there's usually at least one of us at home.

StrawberryWater · 29/01/2025 17:31

3 bed

£150 for combined gas and electric. Octopus Energy.

Bjorkdidit · 29/01/2025 17:33

What do you mean 'this isn't going to get better'.

That period included over a week of some of the coldest weather that we've had for years, plus you were likely at home more over Christmas.

Your next ten bills at least will probably all be lower than that.

movinghouse12 · 29/01/2025 17:33

£120 gas and £110 electric.

1820s four bed end terrace cottage. A couple of walls are only single skin. We use the stove a lot for heating if we are home to keep it topped up. Also heavy dishwasher and tumble dryer years.

Sodascreams · 29/01/2025 17:38

3 bed mid terrace with single glazing in the front of the house- I refuse to be cold in my own house.
The days where it spiked and went up to about £8 were the days when it was freezing and I just left the heating on over night.

I think about £390 - we live in an end of terrace 4 bed. we also have a fire on every night but this house was probably build 600 BC and is cold as hell.

Just over £120 for gas and electric combined. Newish build 2 bed detached bungalow. Heating on most of the day, tumble dryer on twice a week.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 29/01/2025 17:44

Just got the bill. Nearly £400.

Large high-ceilinged Edwardian house with newly insulated roof and new double glazing. January in the North has been a very cold wet and windy month, this is the highest bill for a long time. Central heating on between 4-6 hours a day, with no central thermostat, plus an electric heater in the kitchen on all day set at 15.5C. Pleased if the daytime temp in the rest of the house when the central heating is on reaches 18C.

thecatdidit · 29/01/2025 17:45

Four bed semi detached, I did 12 extra loads of additional laundry for my family (broken machine) so electric probably higher than usual. £53 electric, £43 gas
We have a log burner though (& plentiful free logs we've never bought any since it was installed ten plus years ago)

Snippit · 29/01/2025 17:46

£172 for both, live in a 1960’s 4 bed detached. I’m at home all day every day due to having M.S. I dress warmly, have the heating on when I need it and have never in my life had it on during the night whilst asleep. Everything has been insulated, walls and loft. South facing lounge, which is the snug, the dining room at the back of the house is bloody freezing being North facing, but I ain’t keeping rooms cosy unless using them, will warm it up if dining in there.

bearing in mind I was brought up by a father who was in the building trade and wouldn’t put the heating on unless he was cold, it’s made me very hardy.

thecatdidit · 29/01/2025 17:46

Wouldn't hurt to post a photo 😁

sunshineandrain82 · 29/01/2025 17:46

£280ish for a 3bed semi detached reasonable size with dining room used as a bedroom so we keep heat consistent. We think it's 1960s
I keep House at 20 at all times.

southenglandartist · 29/01/2025 17:48

£200 for January gas and electric, 3 bed end terrace. This year we have kept the heating down to max 19, last year our limit was 21-22 but cannot afford that now! No tumble dryer, nothing excessive but still pricey for our income!!
