To think eventually, UK could become a part of the USA?

CyanSeal · 27/01/2025 12:20

Depending on how Trump gets on … he doesn’t seem shy about taking over other countries. On paper it would make sense globally for the UK and the USA to become one … USA, Canada,UK - what a superpower that would be.

on top of this, there is a hell of a lot of UK support for Trump, I don’t even think the British would object to a takeover on the whole

Seems far fetched I know - but less far fetched that it did a few years ago

Fuck. THAT!!!

No way would we roll over for that brainless orange baboon, or ANY president, for that matter.

We are Europeans.

End of.

Yes we are, but I'm afraid a LOT of English people in particular don't see themselves as fully European, in the way that the rest of Europe does. I've frequently heard them speak about Europe as if it's separate to us, as if they're not European as well.

Part of this comes from the fact that many people in the U.K are still of the 'Rule Britannia' mindset, more naturally aligned with other English speaking world powers rather than the European neighbours that are on our doorstep.

Brits are also mostly monoglots who've never head to learn another language outside of GCSEs. Psychologically, that also makes a difference, culturally.

'on top of this, there is a hell of a lot of UK support for Trump, I don’t even think the British would object to a takeover on the whole'

Why do't you start a petition OP? See how much support there is. I don't think even Nigel Farage is stupid enough to come out with this sort of utter bollocks.

TBH with what's happening to the UK and how are govt are running it so badly the U.S wouldn't want us, who would?

Ironically, if you have read the news over the past couple of days, Trump said Keir was a great guy and they got on well. Make of that what you will.

EasternStandard · 27/01/2025 13:57

@LifeExperience you'll get the usual but yep he is serious about that

I should look at South Korea to see what's happening there, I recall a piece on that

Speaking as an American, the last thing you should want is to become part of this ticking time bomb.

Of all the stupid posts I've seen on here lately... This is definitely the stupidest.

Even more so if it's actually genuine and not a wind up.

I know. How do these people exist?

Putin would get you first. Do you really think Trump cares if Putin has you? No, he doesn't. Maybe you need to provide for your own defense so nobody takes you over? Just a crazy thought.

It's ashame about the 'special relationship' though isn't it. I thought Trump would want the kind of SR that Reagan had with Thatcher.

Floralnomad · 27/01/2025 13:59

Don’t be so ridiculous .

nouveaunomduplume · 27/01/2025 14:00

A serious argument can be made that the UK is already a vassal state of the US. They don't need to bother invading because our government generally does what it's told.

The US needs outposts for its armed services to be able to project its power further. The UK is one such outpost. The Chagos archipelago is another. This is one reason the Yanks are so pissed off about the Chagos deal.

OK I'm completely fascinated by how people think this might happen? Like what is the mechanism here? Amphibious landing?

Tariffs.
Political persuasion by a populist leader.
Othering of the rising empire, we don't want those pesky commie Chinese taking over.

I don't think it would be too difficult. I also don't think Trump would do it.

I don't think Trump would want to support our defence bill, because ultimately, we are quite replaceable.

How can anyone have a look at which changes your acquaintances want to see?

You said lots of people you know want to see the changes in the US trickling over here. How can we possibly go and have a look at which changes the people you know mean?

There are too many and I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that certain types of posters who ask you to clarify exactly which changes, will agree with not even the tiniest aspect of any of them and aren’t looking to be informed, only to rip apart, no matter in what good faith I provide them. So what is in it for me to specify? A day of arguing back and forth with snarky, politically biased, far left, bad faith MNetters? Thanks but I think I’ll pass 😁

Please stop referring to my social circle in that snarky way because it implies that I am existing in this isolated little RL RW echo chamber of like minded, enforcing friends, and thus my opinions cannot hold much value. I don’t really have a “social circle” for various reasons but I do come across many people in the course of my job and part of it is building friendly and comfortable relationships with people so they’ll trust me and accept my help/services, and that is where I am getting my information from 😊. Thanks.

What makes you think your social circle is more representative than anyone else's? Because I see no reason to think it is.

American here. It's only been 6 days. He's serious about Greenland for strategic reasons. Eastern Canada will do if we can't get Greenland, but we'll get Greenland, probably as a territory. Greenland's leadership has already signaled that they are open to it. Denmark can sputter and gasp and issue sternly worded letters all it wants. It has to do with building an "iron dome" type of missile defense system over the US, which is in the planning stages.

As for the UK, no we don't want you. We're trying to reduce our commitments to Europe, not increase them. Europeans have never played well in the sandbox together and the vast majority of Americans are beyond tired of being pulled into your conflicts. Just no.

I'm not sure you realise how utterly ridiculous comments like this sound to the rest of the world.

Greenland is not yours to take but that aside Canada is a sovereign country and a founding member of Nato. Article 5 states that an attack on Canada would be viewed as an attack on the NATO alliance and all members would defend Canada.

I mean we all knowTrump is not the sharpest tool in the box but not even he is that stupid.

Indeed. Note the softened language being used now that Trump is in the hot seat. Makes me 😁

You think someone arguing against the notion of the UK becoming a U.S. state is, 'far left'? What about Royalists, are they far left!

So you think Trump is looking to dump his convenient, easily defended, Island airfield, which is the perfect re-supply point before his military hit mainland Europe, ME, Asia? Good to know.
