To think eventually, UK could become a part of the USA?

Depending on how Trump gets on … he doesn’t seem shy about taking over other countries. On paper it would make sense globally for the UK and the USA to become one … USA, Canada,UK - what a superpower that would be.

on top of this, there is a hell of a lot of UK support for Trump, I don’t even think the British would object to a takeover on the whole

Seems far fetched I know - but less far fetched that it did a few years ago

Fuck. THAT!!!

No way would we roll over for that brainless orange baboon, or ANY president, for that matter.

We are Europeans.

End of.

I'm sorry but are you on some kind of brain addling medication ?

You would PREFER a man who is a proven liar, a career misogynist and blatant narcissist. Who talks about 'grabbing a woman by the pussy' .. who seriously questioned why bleach couldn't be injected into those suffering with Covid .. I mean that's just the start .. the list is just beyond bonkers . The man is a fucking liability and almost certainly in the early stages of dementia.

You would actually PREFER that to an educated, thoughtful SANE human being ? It's obvious that you're no Labour supporter but really ? Trump ? It smacks of 'rather dead than red' .

Hopefully you can successfully emigrate.. because there are plenty of us who think our government is a breath of fresh air after the last omnifuckingshambles.. (and I would even rather them than the Orange monstrosity.

I detest Keir Starmer and his second rate cabinet. They fill me with gloom and dread. But no I don’t want to be part of the USA.

Needmorelego · 27/01/2025 12:21

Well they once had a war to become free of us.
I think we'd have to say "sorry.....too late to change your mind now".

They wouldn’t be a part of you, you would be a part of them.

3peassuit · 27/01/2025 13:43

Good grief, NO.

Coolasfeck · 27/01/2025 13:45

Reform are seriously putting their campaign funds to good use through continued spamming of forums such as this one.

Its funny how desperate ‘patriots’ are to sell out this country the American tech oligarchs and weird Christian fundamentalists.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 27/01/2025 13:45

I think, short of us being invaded, we're unlikely to end up as part of the USA. We couldn't even stick being part of the EU! Most British people think the USA is a bit of a mess at best, and a wildly unstable country at worse.

Personally, I'm not even sure the USA will still exist in its current form in 20 years, think various states will end up seceding, hopefully without civil war first. Either way, they're certainly going to be unlikely to have new "states" like the UK joining. The republicans in particular aren't going to want somewhere as left leaning as the UK mucking up their chances of being reelected,

WaryCrow · 27/01/2025 13:45

The U.K. and rest of NATO need US funding more than the reverse

Sadly you are right there at this current moment in time. I was never a fan of globalisation and I was hoping some of the murmured disturbances about the extent of European supply chains after Covid and with the Ukraine war would stay and become something to action.

But not only is the era of rule by law over: the era of reason never had a long tradition and it’s gone again already. The human race is beyond hope.

What are your opinions on alien sightings and abductions? Apparently a huge number of US citizens believe in these implicitly, so we might have a small problem with integration. Also I can’t drive on the right hand side, have tried it and it doesn’t work for me, so it’s a no from me on those two points alone. 🙂

EarthSight · 27/01/2025 13:48

Lol...is that you, Trump Team? 😂

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 27/01/2025 13:48

I think we should become an American state, of course my response is completely self centered as it would make my life so much easier 😄

Unfortunately for me it's not going to happen. Rest of you are lucky though.

LifeExperience · 27/01/2025 13:48

Lol! Name-calling is not an argument. Refute my points. You won't because you can't.

Adamante · 27/01/2025 13:49

cardibach · 27/01/2025 13:06

There’s been an ipsos poll on U.K. people’s view of him as US President. I don’t think thinking he’s ok as that means you would want to be taken over, so I assume favourability to that question would be lower. 3 in 5 dont even like hi. As US President the only group where it’s over 50% (just) is Reform voters. I assume @Adamante‘s social circle is the extreme end of those if none of them express dislike of him.

Please stop referring to my social circle in that snarky way because it implies that I am existing in this isolated little RL RW echo chamber of like minded, enforcing friends, and thus my opinions cannot hold much value. I don’t really have a “social circle” for various reasons but I do come across many people in the course of my job and part of it is building friendly and comfortable relationships with people so they’ll trust me and accept my help/services, and that is where I am getting my information from 😊. Thanks.

This with bells on!
MN is officially Trump drunk

Wow. Are you feeling well? You just agreed with me. 😉

Abhannmor · 27/01/2025 13:50

The US already has bases on Greenland. It doesn't need the whole territory for defence reasons. Just to rip off the
mineral wealth. Last time a NATO country attacked another member was 1974 - Turkey invaded Cyprus. This would end NATO. Militarily Europe can't respond. But I imagine there would be a new cold war - trade embargoes, travel bans etc.Maybe another global Depression. Therefore I can't see the US military and the remaining sane Republicans supporting it. I think Trump will get his wish on European defence. There will be a big increase in spending and it will be on European weaponry - not the $ 40bn per annum currently spent on US hardware. We will mend our fences with China of course. That's always the way - when one friend dumps you , you work on improving other relationships.

Adamante · 27/01/2025 12:54

Go and have a look if you’re interested 😊

How can anyone have a look at which changes your acquaintances want to see?

You said lots of people you know want to see the changes in the US trickling over here. How can we possibly go and have a look at which changes the people you know mean?

Whammyyammy · 27/01/2025 13:50

TBH with what's happening to the UK and how are govt are running it so badly the U.S wouldn't want us, who would?

LifeExperience · 27/01/2025 13:51

EasternStandard · 27/01/2025 13:06

It is true the US is pulling away from getting involved over here, and concentrating on them

It's been 6 days and he's already pulled 20,000 troops out of Europe. Yes, he's serious.

Dappy777 · 27/01/2025 13:51

No, we’re too different. Personally, I think we overestimate how much we have in common with Americans and underestimate how much we have in common with other Europeans (and we are Europeans - we left the EU, not Europe). I have met numerous Americans I’ve liked and admired, but I’m often struck by the difference. We’re much more ironic, cynical, pessimistic and secular. I feel more comfortable around educated, middle-class French people than I do around Americans. The USA is very much a world of its own.

Sunseaandsand1 · 27/01/2025 13:51

You sound like you’ve been sharing Elon’s ketamine. No, the majority of British people don’t want fascism. It was only less than 10 years ago people voted to ‘take back control’ because they wanted their ‘sovereignty’ from ‘unelected bureaucrats’ & the ‘elite’. It would also break up the UK, there’s no way all the UK countries would agree to this.

Epidote · 27/01/2025 13:53

There is no way UK will renounce to their sovereign to be a state.

He needs far northern territory to build an iron dome over the east coast of the US. Canada or Greenland will do. Greenland comes with fewer problems.

ilovesooty · 27/01/2025 12:28

I might have said that a year ago. Given the changing tone over the past few months on here I'm not too surprised to see it.

One of the main problems with Trump/Russian/China etc is their power to control bots and algorithms. So people who are slightly more vulnerable and impressionable (not talking about anyone specifically just in general terms) see a deluge of pro-trump stuff online and understandably come to believe that the majority of people think that way.

Whilst a majority of Americans who voted did so for the republicans, and it is therefore fair to say that most American voters are right leaning, the majority of British people only recently voted in Labour which can only realistically be described as as centre/centre left.

Of course Faridge and ‘Reform’ are desperate to keep Elon on side as they well know that data and social media can be used to manipulate the political landscape. Just look into the whole Cambridge Analytica thing.

So while more British people are not pro Trump, there is a real danger that people without critical thinking could easily be persuaded to move increasingly in that direction in the future.

midlifeattheoasis · 27/01/2025 13:54

😂

Allswellthatendswelll · 27/01/2025 13:55

OK I'm completely fascinated by how people think this might happen? Like what is the mechanism here? Amphibious landing?
