To think eventually, UK could become a part of the USA?

Depending on how Trump gets on … he doesn’t seem shy about taking over other countries. On paper it would make sense globally for the UK and the USA to become one … USA, Canada,UK - what a superpower that would be.

on top of this, there is a hell of a lot of UK support for Trump, I don’t even think the British would object to a takeover on the whole

Seems far fetched I know - but less far fetched that it did a few years ago

Of all the stupid posts I've seen on here lately... This is definitely the stupidest.

Even more so if it's actually genuine and not a wind up.

I doubt it is. It can't be. It has the 'so many people like him' line, which tries to convince you to go with the suposed consensus, and it makes it so obvious.

I wish this shit would fuck off these boards.

There are very few people I know that don't think he's a bellend. The ones that sort of think he's a good idea are the types that think you have to burn something down in order to repair it.

InDogweRust · 27/01/2025 17:39

Given that i think a huge part of our population would strongly resist this and we would have international military support if we needed it, this is astonishingly unlikely. The rest of the world would band together if the USA dared to try and take over a large developed economy.

InDogweRust · 27/01/2025 17:40

And there is not a lot of UK support for trump
Most of us think he's a twat?

dottiehens · 27/01/2025 17:41

Needmorelego · 27/01/2025 12:21

Well they once had a war to become free of us.
I think we'd have to say "sorry.....too late to change your mind now".

Hahahaha….. yeah right as in Trump does know what the U.K. has become. BTW it is not that he has a lot of support here is that we are to the neck on shit from every side. Therefore, we will get a Trump equivalent here to clean the mess.

What a ridiculous post.

bombastix · 27/01/2025 17:41

Seriously the US should aim higher. They usually go for places with natural resources like oil.

We have whisky and benefit claimants as growth industries if you believe Reform

No need to bother with that question mark.😂

SerendipityJane · 27/01/2025 17:43

I'd really love to know how many people in UK who think it's a good idea for us to become another state of USA were the same ones who voted for Brexit?
Can they not see the irony?

As I suggested, they weren't the brightest and best.

MushMonster · 27/01/2025 17:45

Why not give him the whole world? He seems ready to take it!

Now, seriously, nope UK will always be UK, thanks.

bombastix · 27/01/2025 17:45

Have you seen these titans who suggest this? They are usually the last kind of people who would do well out of it.

The US doesn't want our crumbs. They like winners.

I don’t even think of American as a lost colony, sorry to disappoint you. And while you’ve done very well economically, it’s not hatred to say social policies are not th8ngs I like. The health system is positively cruel, the rampant use of guns is scary and the more or less total lack of workers’ rights is positively backward looking for us. It’s not hatred of America to say that - before even mentioning Trump, who I actually probably do hate. He represents a lot of the things I hate anyway - rampant greed, homophobia, misogyny, racism, sexual incontinence and exploitation of sex workers.

May be check the state of knife crime and the NHS which is as bad as not having any safety net. When was last time you saw a police officer patrolling your area.

Feel free to emigrate OP.
I have yet to meet anybody irl who doesn’t think Trump is a psychopath. Not sure who are referring to when you say there is so much support for him here.
From Musk bots perhaps?

Trump is turning illegal immigrants back, and doing what he says he would. What do our government do? 🤔 Im.a Trump fan

I believe your family would miss even the crappo NHS @dottiehens - or are your family and friends all strong as an ox and so wealthy they can do without

The US always come miles below the UK in world rankings of healthcare systems.

'According to the 2024 Mirror, Mirror report, Australia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom have the best healthcare systems, though the differences in overall performance among most countries are relatively small. In stark contrast, the United States ranks last, with its healthcare system performing dramatically lower than the others.'

It continues to astound me that Americans continue this false narrative that their healthcare system is so wonderful because they don’t want a ‘socialist’ system (UK, Canada etc).

Sure your insurance in the US has to pay but the kind of insurance you have and how much you pay are dependant on your individual wealth (or company healthcare scheme). Poor Americans receive exceptionally poor care because they can’t pay for it or afford it (despite a drive to make this better with Medicaid or whatever Obamacare is being called now).

You give an example so I’ll give one too. American citizen from birth - motorcycle fell over on them - stationary so not riding. Femur break and surgery needed. Cost? 180,000 dollars. Let that sink in 180,000 dollars.Insurance paid 100,000 ONLY. Friend in their early 20’s now lumped with a 80,000 bill. These things do happen. Canadian cost - zero. UK cost - zero.

Your system isn’t better and ours isn’t socialist. I can easily choose my doctor. When my father needed complex surgery he was given the choice of five hospitals and dates for each. Sure in super rural parts of Canada there is much much less choice but that’s geography not socialism.

What is wrong with benefit claimants. So if you lose your job for whatever reason, you can't claim benefits?

bombastix · 27/01/2025 17:53

@tammy98 - taking the piss out the idea, and indeed how Reform think.

Knife crime is higher per capita in the US than the U.K. and of course they have a massive gun crime rate.

Yes we are, but I'm afraid a LOT of English people in particular don't see themselves as fully European, in the way that the rest of Europe does. I've frequently heard them speak about Europe as if it's separate to us, as if they're not European as well.

Part of this comes from the fact that many people in the U.K are still of the 'Rule Britannia' mindset, more naturally aligned with other English speaking world powers rather than the European neighbours that are on our doorstep.

Brits are also mostly monoglots who've never head to learn another language outside of GCSEs. Psychologically, that also makes a difference, culturally.

Being part of a continent isn't a state of mind. It is what it is.

We are an island at the end of the day, so our influences are more solitary and separate that that of mainland Europe but I do think most of us (general rhetoric and feckery of the gammonati aside) do think of ourselves as European. Because we are.

American, though?

Hell, no.

We are lazy when it comes to learning other languages here, BUT, in our defence, the vast majority of EU citizens learn English as their second language. We can't learn French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Icelandic...........ad infinitum.
