To think eventually, UK could become a part of the USA?

Depending on how Trump gets on … he doesn’t seem shy about taking over other countries. On paper it would make sense globally for the UK and the USA to become one … USA, Canada,UK - what a superpower that would be.

on top of this, there is a hell of a lot of UK support for Trump, I don’t even think the British would object to a takeover on the whole

Seems far fetched I know - but less far fetched that it did a few years ago

Good news! As a retired American military officer I say with authority that your token deployments hindered more than helped, at least in Helmand. The chain of command was a cluster fuck

Why on earth is an American military officer posting on a British forum predominately for women and parents?! Is Reddit closed today?

Sorry, I don't know if you know but we have left the EU (unfortunately) they don't tell us to do anything.

Tethered bottle caps ?

rewilded · 27/01/2025 14:34

I wouldn't mind the UK being the 51st state. Infact I would welcome it - where do I sign?

Abhannmor · 27/01/2025 14:28

Of course. I lived in Hackney and Tower Hamlets and Newham for decades. An earthly paradise compared to what I saw in many parts of the USA. Before you factor in Health , Education and Welfare.

Which parts of the US out of interest

Except for the little detail that even if you have insurance and your policy clearly states that your treatment is covered, the insurance company might deny the cover completely or until it is to late. That was why that CEO got shot.

A what if...

Mrsbloggz · 27/01/2025 14:35

I wonder if @CyanSeal perhaps means in millions of years time when the tectonic plates have shifted such that the UK is adjacent to the USA?

American here. It's only been 6 days. He's serious about Greenland for strategic reasons. Eastern Canada will do if we can't get Greenland, but we'll get Greenland, probably as a territory. Greenland's leadership has already signaled that they are open to it. Denmark can sputter and gasp and issue sternly worded letters all it wants. It has to do with building an "iron dome" type of missile defense system over the US, which is in the planning stages.

As for the UK, no we don't want you. We're trying to reduce our commitments to Europe, not increase them. Europeans have never played well in the sandbox together and the vast majority of Americans are beyond tired of being pulled into your conflicts. Just no.

Apparently the UK has first refusal on Greenland!

jeffgoldblum · 27/01/2025 14:35

@BIossomtoes 😉

BatchCookBabe · 27/01/2025 14:35

I LOVE how the Danish told Trump to fuck off, when he suggested taking over Greenland. 😆

There was someone else who tried to invade other countries and make them his own around 85 years ago, now who WAS that?! 🤔

KimberleyClark · 27/01/2025 14:36

If that happens George Orwell will be turning in his grave and saying I told you so…….

He would sort out immigration, benefit claiming work-shy youth and reform the NHS. Also, we would be free of the Royal Family. And a biggie for Mums netters, abolish transwomen. What's not to like?

Just what everyone in the UK is desperate for, a US-style health insurance system! As Trump is going to cancel the Affordable Care Act, anyone with pre-existing conditions might as well kill themselves now as they won't be eligible for health care.

The state of UK dentistry where most people can't find an NHS dentist and can't afford to pay privately is what health care would look like if we went' down the US route.

SerendipityJane · 27/01/2025 14:34

Tethered bottle caps ?

That's a good idea, what's wrong with saving the planet where we can? Why is that a dirty principle now. I refuse to lose my mind to this indoctrinating BS.

Serpentstooth · 27/01/2025 14:38

Thanks Elon but personally I'm not keen. Like about 95% of the rest of my countrymen. Maybe lay off the ket for a bit? It doesn't seem to be serving you well.

Just below the bit where you tell the Royal Family to fuck off, and order your choice of firearms for personal protection.

chickenlettuceunderbacon · 27/01/2025 14:39

Sorry. What now?

Step away from the glue and FOX/GB News.

The Economist wrote a long “what if” article on this same premise back in the 90’s.

The gist of it that I remember was that it made economic sense and our laws are compatible

It was an interesting thought exercise

Adelstrop · 27/01/2025 14:41

Personally, I would fight on the beaches….

Hants123 · 27/01/2025 14:41

So on the upside, we'd get lower fuel prices? Oh and would we get US size portions from McDonalds, I'm swaying.

LBFseBrom · 27/01/2025 14:42

No. We've had that talk before, years ago.

SerendipityJane · 27/01/2025 14:42

Utter bollocks.
We don't have a written constitution for a start which is a sine non qua

LifeExperience · 27/01/2025 14:43

Willyoujustbequiet · 27/01/2025 14:01

I'm not sure you realise how utterly ridiculous comments like this sound to the rest of the world.

Greenland is not yours to take but that aside Canada is a sovereign country and a founding member of Nato. Article 5 states that an attack on Canada would be viewed as an attack on the NATO alliance and all members would defend Canada.

I mean we all knowTrump is not the sharpest tool in the box but not even he is that stupid.

He doesn't want Canada. He wants Canada to close their northern border. Tariffs are a negotiating tactic. Read the Art of the Deal to understand how Trump's mind works. He thinks in terms of deals. Good negotiators always start by asking for more than they really want.

I've used his tactics when buying real estate. Ask for the moon and negotiate down from that. Works like a charm.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/01/2025 14:43

Fuck me NO!

America itself will be lucky if it survives Trump intact.

Yeah my family have a genetic condition. It was not recognised as a genetic condition until 15 years ago and causes a range of seemingly unconnected symptoms from middle age. We would not get health insurance. Or it would have so many exclusions as to be basically worthless.

Ddndka · 27/01/2025 14:43

I'd rather have an EU style social insurance system than the NHS

Which one? Every country has its own and they’re all different.
