I may be being unreasonable and I’m just old and out of touch… took my kids swimming today at our local public pool and there was a lady wearing one of those swimming costumes that is basically a thong at the back? I saw lots of them in the beach during the summer which I kind of understand as it helps you get a very high cut tan/eliminates tan lines but I felt a bit weird seeing one in an indoor pool? Not sure where boundaries lie…? Happy to be told IABU but wondered what others think?

No, not especially close, but sadly close enough to see too much ‘detail’. We were a sunbed away and were treated to a full view when she bent down. We were packing and moving at the time. It was absolutely disgusting.

Question for the thong swimwear wearers. Do you really not mind strangers seeing your bare arse? Even in my young and lovely days I was always quite discerning about who saw mine. Sexual partners only generally!

I don't mind at all. Unless you wear a Victorian bathing costume everyone can see the exact shape and contours of your arse when you're in swimwear and they know the colour of your skin. Actually revealing the skin provides no further information. Unless maybe you have a tattoo of HM King on it?

Was in Greece last year, these thongs were everywhere. When the women are swimming in the sea literally all you can see are bare arses bobbing up and down in the water. As for the comfort thing not sure that holds up. They were constantly hoiking them out of their crack.

Absolutely not. My niece looks like a super model but shorter. She absolutely hates the bare bum look as do many of her friends. They think it's highly embarrassing.

Went to a David Lloyd Health Centre this morning. The gym was jam-packed full of women in their Twenties with bare midriffs in staggeringly tight leggings. These are clearly deliberately designed to show off the curves as much as is humanly possible. An hour later I was in the sauna where it felt like being in the middle of a club 18 30 holiday. There were many tiny tiny bikinis.

Yes, you may have boobs/arse/genitals that look exactly like those of millions of other people's - but that doesn't mean there's no personal desire to keep yours private so that nobody sees them except you and people very close to you.

You might as well say that we should get rid of cubicles in public and work toilets and just have a line of toilet pans out in the open - on the grounds that everybody's wee and turds - and the methods of expelling them - are pretty much the same and are nothing new that anybody hasn't seen before!

I don't think the vast majority of posters here are in the least bit jealous of women who display their bare bottoms. Personally I feel embarrassed for them & certainly not jealous.
