To think bums should be covered in a public pool?

I may be being unreasonable and I’m just old and out of touch… took my kids swimming today at our local public pool and there was a lady wearing one of those swimming costumes that is basically a thong at the back? I saw lots of them in the beach during the summer which I kind of understand as it helps you get a very high cut tan/eliminates tan lines but I felt a bit weird seeing one in an indoor pool? Not sure where boundaries lie…? Happy to be told IABU but wondered what others think?

I don't like wedgie leggings or swimwear.

tillyandmilly · 27/01/2025 17:42

How can they be comfortable with a cheese wire up your cheeks - I would feel baked wearing one of these!

Predatory men don't need to see your arse full stop though. No body needs to see your arse.

Then don't look.

Walkaround · 27/01/2025 17:46

If it’s generally considered repellent for a man to wear a thong in a public swimming pool, the same applies to a woman, imvho. It’s inappropriate, increases the woman’s risk of thrush, due to the female anatomy, and on most women and men is not aesthetically pleasing, because most people have flabby, ugly backsides, anyway. This might not put off people who see thongs as displays of sexual availability and welcome it for that reason, but it puts most other people off, tbh, because it’s mostly not a pretty sight.

I think it's advised that you keep your eyes open when near or in water.

Unless the ass is right up on your face you probably aren't going to see their asshole or vulva like people have said.

And if it is that close there are other issues that need sorting.

onwardsup4 · 27/01/2025 17:49

@MugsyBalonz poster said fashion for girls being skimpy is playing into the hands of peados and perverts and you reply peados and perverts don't give a shit what anyone is wearing. That's a bold statement why are you dismissing this very real concern? And why wouldn't a mother want to protect their children from this ?

Does it matter if they look attractive?

I mean, most people at the beach aren't necessarily attractive.

I don't think it means they should have to cover up.

onwardsup4 · 27/01/2025 17:51

@Princessconsuelabananahammock9 so the onus is on me as an owner of working eyes to not view others entire backside at a public swimming pool. Good grief just cover your arse up in public it's not difficult. Or don't but at least you know the opinion of most now

I find the entire arse an unappealing sight, unfortunately. So even from a reasonable distance I'm seeing parts of bodies that I would rather not.

And I don't want to explain to kids why it's sensible for them to keep their private parts covered and that it's not okay if someone wants to show them their private areas, except for these women who have bottoms so sensitive they can't have fabric on them.

So how does one not flash ones bum to other pool users when vacating the pool

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 27/01/2025 17:58

SpeedyMcNobhead · 27/01/2025 17:38

They just scream “look at me” if you ask me.

So?

Even if they want attention who cares?

Give me them space.

You'll still see it if you look, but no reason for it to be in your face.

I have never in my life worn a thong. Ever.

BUT, I genuinely don't care what others wear at the pool or beach.

Unless they are extremely hot I'm probably not gonna notice for more than a brief glance.

JudgeJ · 27/01/2025 14:35

Teach him 'lard arse loudly!

Really?

You would teach your kid to insult a woman's body?

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 27/01/2025 18:05

VoodooRajin · 27/01/2025 12:23

If it's just skin, would they let their 12 year old daughters wear them

I see toddlers running around the beach just in diapers and wouldn't expect a 12 to be topless.

Does it matter if they look attractive?

I mean, most people at the beach aren't necessarily attractive.

I don't think it means they should have to cover up.

It matters how they choose to present themselves in a public place. By all means wander around naked, or wear clothing that would be considered inappropriate in a swimming pool full of families with young children, in the privacy of your own home, if it somehow makes you happy to look like that, all for your own benefit. But don’t be the only person wearing a thong in a public swimming pool and then pretend nobody has to look at you, and you should be allowed to wear what you want, as if anyone believes what you have chosen to wear in public has nothing to do with how you wish others to perceive you in said public place.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 27/01/2025 18:13

I've never actually worn a thong other than on a photoshoot.

It's not my thing, I find them uncomfortable.

I just don't like the policing of bodies.

I don't like reading that women shouldn't wear thongs because they look bad.

Or they should yell lard ass at them.

Or they are asking to be sexually harassed.

It's just a bum.

Would you draw the line at nudity? Or is that also an unacceptable societal policing of bodies?

@MugsyBalonz poster said fashion for girls being skimpy is playing into the hands of peados and perverts and you reply peados and perverts don't give a shit what anyone is wearing. As exemplified by the 'What Were You Wearing?' link I posted earlier, sexual predators will predate no matter what their intended victim is wearing. Sex crimes have absolutely nothing to do with what the victim is wearing, skimpy clothing does not cause sex crimes to happen and is not "playing into the hands" of paedos and perverts.

Interviews with rapists and research on the causes of sexual crimes have overwhelming concluded that clothing is not a factor in who they assault.

I can guarantee you and your DC pass by perverts and paedos on a daily basis - statistically, you are likely to be on speaking terms with at least one - and what you're wearing has no bearing on what is going on in their head. Ditto your DC, a paedophile will think degenerate thoughts about your child regardless of clothing and to try insinuate that clothing is a factor completely ignores the power dynamics that drive sexual assault against both adults and children. You or your DC are most likely to be assaulted by someone you know, someone who has access/opportunity to spend time with you away from prying eyes, someone who you trust and who has some form of relationship with you. Statistically, it is very unlikely someone will be assaulted at the pool.

You are no more likely to be assaulted in a thong than you are in a tracksuit. It's a dangerous narrative to suggest otherwise as it implies victims are complicit in the crimes committed against them by dint of what they wearing.

🤣🤣🤣It’s quite hard not to notice exhibitionists, tbh.

Indeed. If somebody is deliberately acting in a way that they know most will find offensive - or at least distasteful - why is it incumbent on the majority to avert their senses?

If somebody were swearing non-stop in an inappropriate environment - especially one with a lot of children present - surely people wouldn't tell them not to listen or to wear ear plugs, would they?

You don't have to be actively staring at people to see them in an enclosed shared space.

onwardsup4 · 27/01/2025 19:30

@Princessconsuelabananahammock9 no one is trying to "police" bodies there is such a thing as decency and the majority of people know to and wish to cover certain areas in public.
@MugsyBalonz ok you were talking about sexual assault. We were talking about 12 year olds in thong bikinis and how skimpy girls clothes in general are compared to boys from a really young age such as the length of shorts etc and why this is

But if it were just a bum ie unclothed that's not so bad. It's just a natural normal body.

Its knowing where that bit of fabrics going that's so unappealing.
