To think that Rachel Reeves really ought to practice what she preaches?

AIBU reasonable to think that Reeves is being somewhat hypocritical in saying we can learn from Trump’s positivity, and is challenging people to be more positive on the UK’s strengths?

I say that not because she’s drawing on Trump as a positive role model, which is another debate all together, but because of the sheer gall involved in challenging others to be positive when she and the government have been relentlessly downbeat about the UK’s situation since they took power.

Are they beginning to learn what proper leadership is about…? Let’s hope so.

Am sick of hearing about her.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 25/01/2025 19:43

She's a nasty piece of work.

How the fuck can she consider anything Trump has done as positive? He is screwing the US economy and the price of eggs is not improving!

FaeryQueen · 25/01/2025 19:44

I have nothing nice to say about her.

maxplanck · 25/01/2025 20:02

Yawn. People were moaning that Starmer and David Lammy had insulted Trump years ago which put us at the front of the queue for punishment.
Rachel Reeves has tried to turn a shit situation into a good one and now she’s a hypocrite. I think Kemi needs more help, maybe go and advise her OP.

SunshinDay · 25/01/2025 20:10

Unbelievable.

I think they have been utterly shocked by the moving and shaking going on in the states.
Remeber that short lived burst of energy starmer had until he was hidden under the party coat pile of lord Ali, football, raynor raving etc.
We can argue about what trumps policies are however you can't argue he's shifting gear.

FrostyFig · 25/01/2025 22:05

She spent three months showering everyone with doom and gloom after they won the election! Remember the speach Keir Starmer gave from the rose garden? He was like the grim reaper. The economy was in reverse before they even delivered the disastrous budget in October.

Now all of a sudden Trump is lovely and we should all be more positive. She's an incompetent CF.

echt · 25/01/2025 22:08

Hey ho.

I suppose it makes a change from yet another fucking thread about Keir Starmer.

Rachel from accounts stumbled into the job by accident. She’s incompetent and has tanked the economy.

Borrowing is through the roof, gilt yields have gone haywire, economic output is worse than ever, growth is non existent, the country is likely in recession when growth figures are revised, unemployment is up, taxes are higher than ever, inflation is going to start edging up. Just to pour some petrol on the bin fire this government has started, highest rate taxpayers are leaving the country in their tens of thousands.

All of this since Labour took over. They took a bad situation and make it unimaginably worse.

And now Two Tier, Rachel from
accounts and Lamey are dying to lick Trump’s boots, because they trashed him for years. He is in power, in charge of the country that makes 25% of global economy. This shower of idiot are now buzzing around him like flies, begging for forgiveness and trying to get in his good books. It would be funny if it were so tragic to watch Trump humiliate this government.

For goodness sake. Can you not think of anything more sensible or original to say than accuse someone with a different opinion to you of being a 'Tory Bot'.
Silly and pathetic. Reported for trollhunting.

Ah the Tory-bot response - report me for troll hunting rather than address the issues I’ve raised.

yeah …. It’s me that’s pathetic for sure……

To be fair to her, she's not saying we should emulate his policies, just his positivity about his country being great.

She was asked if we could learn from trump, and replied "yes, we need more positivity" then went on to say:
“We are absolutely fantastic as a country, we’ve got four of the best universities in the world. We’ve got some of the most amazing entrepreneurs with fantastic ideas. In all the sectors that are growing globally – AI, tech, clean energy – Britain has got unbelievable strengths in those sectors.
“We shouldn’t apologise for it and we shouldn’t be all polite about it. We should be shouting from the rooftops.”
People who've been complaining that she should be more positive are now calling her hypocritical for doing exactly that.

Your 'issues' were an incoherent rant.
Blame the Tories for everything. There's nothing to address.

Scautish · 25/01/2025 23:00

Well yes I’m going to blame the party that has been in power for 96% of the time since 2010

or do you think that all our woes have just arisen since Labour got in 6months ago??

i really don’t believe that you believe that. As one would have to be profoundly stupid to think that.

own the shit the tories have created and recognise it is going to take years for this country to recover.

Scautish · 25/01/2025 23:03

OMG you actually did report me and get me deleted for having a different opinion to you!!

FFS. The extreme right really is trying to silence the dissenters!

Katypp · 25/01/2025 23:05

I won't engage with anyone who just shouts Tory Bot when they hear something they don't agree with. It makes me think they have nothing original to say and it looks like I am right

InterestQ · 25/01/2025 23:09

While I haven’t been wild about her budget I did hear her speech at the Labour conference on the radio and she was extremely upbeat about how great the UK was. It was a very positive and enthusiastic view - not at all doom and gloom. Belief in the country etc. I like the UK personally so I liked the speech.

Her comments more recently are consistent with that. They do not directly translate as “I ❤️ Trump.”

Scautish · 25/01/2025 23:12

again. Absolute deflection

how has the party who has been in for the last 4% of the time since 2010 to blame for the current state of affairs?

when the tories came in in 2010 they introduced austerity, stated no magic money tree, biscuit tin is empty. And cut so much back which hit women, the disabled and the poor disproportionately.

then came Brexit, and Covid, and the truss economy crash.

but it’s labours fault. Sure

bht continue to deflect …. Clearly you have no response.

and report me again if you want - easier to silence people than to debate isn’t it?

Trunk has been in office for 4 days. Love him or loathe him, the idea that he’s a failure because he hasn’t already reduced the price of eggs is ridiculous! Many of the eggs in shops will have been put on the shelves when Biden was president a few short days ago!

im not saying this because I like Trump - I don’t - just that your post is ridiculous.

OneLemonGuide · 25/01/2025 23:16

Trump, not Trunk!

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 25/01/2025 23:25

Yes, I think she’s right for saying we can learn from his positivity and purpose… that’s VERY different from saying that she
agrees with the substance of what he’s saying.

i don’t think she’s hypocritical if she then is more positive. The problem is her credibility is shot, so will it have any impact or be believable, or will it just come across
as contrived and desperate. I want the UK to succeed, so given that she’s not going anyway it seems, then I hope she does change tone and somehow is able to be convincing.

You clearly have lost your sense of humour and cannot recognise a tongue in cheek comment.

Plus, the Orange Cheeto himself said on day one he would get the price of eggs down, along side ending the Ukrainian war of course. Both of which he didn't do on day one.

I can't believe you actually thought I was serious, that's fucking hilarious! 🤣 brightened my Sunday morning right up 😂😂😂

I will debate with anyone, regardless of their opinions and have done so extensively.
I am very pro free speech and would never try to silence anyone.
However I draw the line at posters who evidently can't debate without resorting to name calling, which you did in your very first post on this thread.
I believe MN regard the never-ending accusations of Tory Bot as trollhunting, which is why I reported it.
You could never silence the left -wing 'dissenters' on MN, believe me 😁
