Am I a far right extremist?

1000 replies

Isitme245 · 25/01/2025 11:30

I had a conversation with my best friend of 25 years the other day and she called me a far right extremist and how my views are scary, dangerous and 'nazi coded'
I was really shocked as I didn't think any of what I said was bad. I'm not a particularly avid supporter of any political party and very much keep opinions to myself. She's very supportive of labour and anti trump and always has been. Usually when she asks me my opinions I just don't want to get into it but I did the other night and now I feel bad.

Here's the breakdown:

  • she sent me an article and told me that Nigel Farage is going to ban abortion eventually if he wins an election. I read the article and pointed out he only suggested lowering the abortion cut off date to 22 weeks (not 24 as it is now). I told her it wasn't the end of the world and it's reasonable if you read his reasons. I also made the point that men shouldn't really be getting involved in abortion law but that what he said wasn't the end of the world.
  • she asked me about immigration and I said that it's great but that we should be prioritising skilled immigrants and have stronger immigration laws. She also asked about asylum seekers and hotels and I said that we should have stronger laws about monitoring people and collecting documentation when people arrive.
  • she sent me and asked about Elon Musk's Nazi salute and I said I didn't interpret it that way
  • I said that immigrants who rape or murder should be deported.

To me this feels really reasonable and not over the top but she really attacked me for it? Now I feel really awkward and uncomfortable talking to her. Is this far right??

Yeah your friend is right, you’re ok with someone very clearly doing the nazi salute. I mean, what else did you think it was.

Jumpingthruhoops · 25/01/2025 21:52

Not that I have to explain my reasoning but just from the few things I have witnessed/personally experienced:
-The left will literally wish death on someone they don't agree with. The right welcome debate.
-During Covid, it was those left leaning who supported a 'papers please' approach to public places. The right thought, quite rationally, that those who were afraid should stay at home.
-According to the left, if you support women only spaces, you are a bigot. The right believe, again quite rationally, that those with a penis should not be allowed access to spaces designated for those with a vagina.
And so on and so on...

Again, you’re talking about the extremes and of course people on the extreme right wish death on others just as you’ve accused the extreme left of doing. We know this because left unchecked the extreme right went on to kill 6 million Jews.

Yeah, I can't abide stupid people who repeat demonstrable lies, then vote to make their lives and everyone else's worse.

The problem is that you've had to use insults in every one of your responses. You thereby lost the debate after your first reply. Good bye. 👋

TooBigForMyBoots · 25/01/2025 22:25

TBF to @Isitme245, she didn't know about Musk's far right tendencies before this thread.

Lovelyview · 25/01/2025 22:28

You are not far right op.

'And by not interpreting it as a Nazi salute you are a sympathiser and should be tarred with the same brush.'

Loads of leaders do this thump chest then hand up gesture. Go on X there's pics of Obama, Macron and others doing the same none of whom are 'nazis'.

Of course but the saddos looking to stir shit can only make up stuff. If Musk is a fascist sympathiser doing a salute why he just does not own it? It is all so childish. He does said he prefer only clever people reproduce which is in total opposite to banning abortion.
In reality most people are just relieved Biden is gone and KH did not get in.

Recent arrivals in Germany? Or the UK? Do you have some stats on that?

Re sexual offenses, it's a relatively similar picture across Europe. Here's some Germany figures I've got to hand for child sex offenses and sexual offenses by nationality relative to Germans:

Those stats are compiled by an anonymous Twitter account known as Marc Vanguard International

Do you have a more reliable source?

You'll see at the bottom of the images, the sources are cited if you want to check them.

Why do people think that further restrictions on access to abortion is centrist. I mean wtaf.

The OP said she was happy with the current 24 week limit but didn’t have a massive issue with the limit being pushed forward a couple of weeks… That’s pretty much where the typical Briton is… A 2023 YouGov poll found 49% thought the current limit was about right… Only 6% thought it should be later than 24 weeks.

From the tone of your post, it sounds like that you are firmly in the 6%, and believed your position was much more widely held than it is.

theotherplace · 25/01/2025 22:56

Jesus, that musk salute was totally a nazi salute, you are far right

The OP has already said she has changed her mind on this particular point.

This is typical of the current polarisation in politics. You haven’t read any of the nuance, OP even said she agreed with the current abortion limit but doesn’t see a huge deal with pushing it to 22 weeks.

And she is being labelled far right… I mean come on!

OneLemonGuide · 25/01/2025 23:08

I get you may think the Op is misinformed, wrong or just plain stupid for thinking that Musk didn’t do a Nazi salute, but I still don’t get that thinking that makes her a right-wing Nazi sympathiser!

It’s like if someone made what appeared to be “a sign of the cross”…. and then you decided that anyone who doubted that it was actually a “sign of the cross” must therefore be a Christian! It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever…

@ArtTheClown "Here's Antifa insulting the family of a murdered toddler stabbed by an Afghan migrant. I mean, if they went doorknocking for the AfD it would be less effective:

They might be doing what you say. But that is a completely out of context piece of video that does not prove anything.

Two things here, I haven't previously commented on Musk's salute.

I think Musk is a provocateur, it is likely it was deliberate. It is clearly abhorrent.

Second thing I haven't said that the left favour open borders. I have said that I have been called far right for believing that there should be immigration controls. There is one poster on this thread who believes that there should be open borders, it's clear in one of their posts. So I'm not sure that you are right that it is 'precious few'.

Edited

No they don’t. ‘The left’ whoever you mean by that, don’t favour open borders. They favour treating people with decency at the border.

cardibach · 25/01/2025 23:35

Doloresparton · 25/01/2025 12:46

You see a Nazi salute because you want to see it.

I know what Musk is.
I am left wing.
I think the far right are dangerous. I think Musk is dangerous.

However if you think what Musk did is a a Nazi salute then you don’t know what a Nazi salute is.

Now I’m not saying Musk did or didn’t want it to be interpreted as such or that he may have been testing the waters for the future.
But imo Musk would have been disciplined by the Nazis for not saluting correctly with that action.

Have you at all seen the video of him alongside actual Hitler doing the salute? It’s identical. I think you are the one who doesn’t know what one is. Or more likely, the ‘I’m left wing’ is rubbish and your a Nazi salute apologist.

Catsandcheese · 25/01/2025 23:35

Feelingathomenow · 25/01/2025 19:18

But to be a Nazi salute he must be saluting or greeting other Nazis. It’s a very important question.

Musk is dangerous. But not because he’s far right, it’s because people are allowing Musk to divide them.

No not true, it is a signal, and he is saying look at me, I support Neo Nazis in Germany ( dear God) and Tommy Robinson and are you guys with me?
Cue big cheer!
Does the audience understand - probably not, but he knows what he is doing, and the people viewing from on far, also know.

This is a quote from my post.

Are you struggling with comprehension. I haven't said anyone from the left has said they favour open borders : S

I have no idea what you are banging on about.

Care to explain?

It’s late and I misread. Apologies.
However you seem to think one person isn’t ’precious few’.

AfD apologists on MN. Very disturbing.

I'm no AfD fangirl personally, but there's a near-constant stream of stabbings and gang rapes by recent arrivals. What do people think is going to happen in a society faced with that?

Where exactly? Do let us know

No worries,

But, I think you must be tired.

You said 'precious few' in your original post , I took that to mean in general and I disagree with you on that.

My point is that in a small sample size (of this thread) at least one person does think that open borders are the way forward , which would demonstrate that more than a precious few, in the population as a whole, would hold the same view.

Either way I was told I am 'right wing' for saying that I don't agree in having open borders.

Hope you can get some rest! Flowers

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 25/01/2025 23:51

But to be a Nazi salute he must be saluting or greeting other Nazis.
The second he did it, the neoNazi chat groups watching the livestream lit up with comments because thousands of neoNazis were watching the inauguration according to the EU verify dispatch.

The salute was to the camera as much as to the audience. Too bad no cameras on the audience…I bet a few neonazis were there and saluted him back.

I'm still waiting for you to acknowledge you lied in your original post. Everyone can see you did. I don't know what you think you're achieving.
