Am I a far right extremist?

1000 replies

Isitme245 · 25/01/2025 11:30

I had a conversation with my best friend of 25 years the other day and she called me a far right extremist and how my views are scary, dangerous and 'nazi coded'
I was really shocked as I didn't think any of what I said was bad. I'm not a particularly avid supporter of any political party and very much keep opinions to myself. She's very supportive of labour and anti trump and always has been. Usually when she asks me my opinions I just don't want to get into it but I did the other night and now I feel bad.

Here's the breakdown:

  • she sent me an article and told me that Nigel Farage is going to ban abortion eventually if he wins an election. I read the article and pointed out he only suggested lowering the abortion cut off date to 22 weeks (not 24 as it is now). I told her it wasn't the end of the world and it's reasonable if you read his reasons. I also made the point that men shouldn't really be getting involved in abortion law but that what he said wasn't the end of the world.
  • she asked me about immigration and I said that it's great but that we should be prioritising skilled immigrants and have stronger immigration laws. She also asked about asylum seekers and hotels and I said that we should have stronger laws about monitoring people and collecting documentation when people arrive.
  • she sent me and asked about Elon Musk's Nazi salute and I said I didn't interpret it that way
  • I said that immigrants who rape or murder should be deported.

To me this feels really reasonable and not over the top but she really attacked me for it? Now I feel really awkward and uncomfortable talking to her. Is this far right??

You're a right-winger and I wouldn't personally choose to be friends with you, but I wouldn't call your views far right.

@TankFlyBossWalkJamNittyGrittyIAmFromAMidSizeCity
It's not like I came to her with views. She asked me my opinions and I responded with what I know, hence me making this post and wanting to hear people's views and learn more

Your views are , imo, very RW

I'm not sure if you're far right or Fascist. You might be. I obviously don't know you

Your opinion on Elon's nazi salute is strange, imo, especially since he's subsequently posted on X about it

TicklishReader · 25/01/2025 13:19

If you think his "suggestion" of lowering the abortion cut-off is not a big deal you are incredibly naive. That's how outright bans begin.

Look at the US right now.

ByMerryKoala · 25/01/2025 13:19

I think Elon may well be a bit of a lunatic but is no more doing a Nazi salute than KJK was doing a far right bat signal when she was zipping up her hoodie.

jimmyateworld · 25/01/2025 13:20

I agree with you op. I think other countries make it so hard to let people go and live there, we just let anyone in !

Doloresparton · 25/01/2025 13:20

ttcat37 · 25/01/2025 13:13

What did it go to then?

Have you watched the video or only seen this photograph?
Because the video shows the whole gesture not just this bit of propaganda.

And I’m left wing but I can’t see the point of ridiculous accusations when there are real problems to be dealt with.

ToWhitToWhoo · 25/01/2025 13:21

I think the specific views that you mention are right of centre but not far right.

However, if you support Farage and Trump and Musk, that would be pretty far right.

IkeaJesusChrist · 25/01/2025 13:21

If you don't think it was a nazi salute would you do it in public?

If not, why not?

EveDeservesBetter · 25/01/2025 13:22

Doloresparton · 25/01/2025 12:58

Only if you believe it to be a Nazi salute.

Exactly.

" Let us try to be honest. The arm gesture delivered by Musk during his three and a half minute speech was more like a Star Wars style version of a high-five.

His right hand began placed across his heart and from there shot out, yes, upwards but more or less sideways, not in front. He then repeated exactly the same gesture to the crowd behind him on the stage. Nor was he ever standing still as required but gyrating.

The gesture done, he then placed his right hand back across his heart and told the crowd: ‘My heart goes out to you. It is thanks to you that the future of civilisation is assured.’

Obviously, he was using his right arm like an arrow or a spear that came from his heart and would reach the stars."

We're in a place now where anything someone you dislike does, is Nazi-adjacent. People need to grow up and leave off the playground tactics. I do not believe it was a nazi salute and that does not make me right wing or far right FFS. I can still find this funny:

Am I a far right extremist?
Feelingathomenow · 25/01/2025 13:23

If anyone calls you fat right from your description I would conclude:

  1. They have a lack of understanding of politics and what counts as extremism
  2. they have never seen a “ Nazi salute” no any variation of it that has been around for centuries His action was more my heart is with you.
  3. They have inability to think critically
  4. They think copying soundbites equates to intellectual thought
  5. They targeted you knowing you didn’t subscribe to their views to get some kind of dopamine hit
  6. They have been recruited into the cult of the unthinking - nothing they say indicates they can actually as on think about situations
  7. Their world view is restricted, unrealistic and stuck in the 6th form common room
  8. she does not value your friendship

Better to be far right than far left.

What an incredibly stupid thing to say.

If you don't think it was a nazi salute would you do it in public?

If not, why not?

Because it looks like a nazi salute but without the intention of it being a Nazi salute then it's just arm waving isn't it ...like Macron.

SchrodingersTwat2 · 25/01/2025 13:24

Not an extremist. Just woefully misinformed.

According to your illustration, I would say that what he did was a Nazi salute.

I am going to keep that chart to test the actions of any fascists I encounter in the future.

If people looked at that blurb critically they'd know that Reform can't deliver on those pledges. It's easy enough to promise things when you aren't anywhere near government. What needs to happen is for their policies to be put under the spotlight and them being forced to justify them.

It's easy enough to promise things when you aren't anywhere near government.

As Labour are now finding out.

OneWittyLemonCat · 25/01/2025 13:11

That’s a still not a video.
He’s waving not saluting.
His political positions are quite well known.
He doesn’t publicly support fascist German Political Parties or “Tommy Robinson”
If he’d actually done a Nazi support he would have apologised.

It’s a video. Clearly.

And how is Brexit working out for you? What was the figure we have lost since 2020? £500 Billion?

Who has lost it though? The UK's GDP is growing, it's how it's distributed that's the problem. I suspect it wouldn't be being spent on raising the minimum wage, building council houses, on Universities or in raising our benefits system to match most of Europe.

The idea the country doesn't have enough money to function is a myth, it's just concentrated in too few hands.

Inthebleakmidwinter1 · 25/01/2025 13:28

all fine except the musk thing. I
mean would you walk out in to street and do exactly what he did. Probably not which tells you everything you need to know

Wemaybebetterstrangers · 25/01/2025 13:29

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 25/01/2025 12:59

That’s right cover it up by pulling the racist card. We’ve seen how that went down in the likes of Rotherham.

Quite

"Normal person" and "majority view" in one post impressive, I'd love to see your data for this

Well Reform are top of the opinion polls so that's pretty good data for you.

To take your breakdown:

  • women's reproductive rights are neither left nor right. Look at Westminster voting patterns and there is no shortage of left wingers voting to restrict rights and right wingers voting in favour of rights. Any attempt to chip away at reproductive rights should be resisted - chipping away is the preferred tactic of many anti abortionists.
  • watch the videos rather than the photographs. I have no idea how you can see anything else than the repeated salute. That said its Musk whose only political ideology is what Musk wants today.
  • MC liberals love freedom of movement/immigration so long as it brings cheap labour to low skilled and trade areas where they are paying. Notably less enthusiastic about higher skilled immigration which reduces MC salaries and sharing their own GP lists and classrooms with migrants.
  • British citizens, wherever they or their parents were born, are the responsibility of the British government and tax payer. We should not be foisting British criminals on less developed countries simply because they or their parents were born abroad.

TBH you both sound as if you need to spend less time with online FOAF tales and more time reading the actual policies and compare business in Westminster with the promises.
