Ignore the poll - I don't know how to disable it!

Was chatting to a chum and she said she loved starting the weekend with a cup of tea in bed with her DH.

Not us! DH brings me a coffee then goes downstairs to have his whilst reading his book.

I scroll mindlessly through MN. What about you?

(I never say chum or cuppa in RL!)

Who drinks this muck called tea??? It should always be coffee!

CorgiAPlenty · 25/01/2025 11:45

Dh sets an alarm because he bakes fresh biscuits and baguettes for the weekend. Today is ginger biscuits. We have a bean to cup coffee machine and he brings me a coffee in bed and he gets back into bed with me. We sit and talk, scroll news stuff, share stories. Our youngest child is 18 and away at uni so no children to get up for but an afternoon nap is a delight on a weekend.

ItGhoul · 25/01/2025 11:46

DP makes a coffee for himself and a tea for me every morning and brings them upstairs, except on the rare occasions when I get up first, in which case I make them. Whether we actually sit in bed and drink them together depends on what were each doing that day. DP is out most Saturdays but the time he goes out varies.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/01/2025 11:46

Im amused that people can extrapolate that having a cup of tea in bed with your partner one morning a week to being in some sort of co-dependent relationship, joined at the hip.

Coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon.

GLC789 · 25/01/2025 11:48

Ahhhhh I miss my quiet morning cuppa and a chapter of my book.

I now have a Luke warm/cold cuppa while my 9month old climbs all over me x

WhatwouldStevieNicksthink · 25/01/2025 11:49

I don't like tea but I love the image of sitting up in bed with a tray holding a teapot, cup and saucer, silver spoon and a toast rack.

Think Lady Mary in Downton Abbey!

Cuppa makes me feel sick.

Ffs. Really? How do you get through life?

I hate coffee. It’s disgusting

Coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon.

This is my philosophy. While I would love to be the kind of person who can drink coffee after dinner, or have an affogato for dessert when in a restaurant, in reality drinking coffee at any point after about 2 pm affects my sleep, which is chancy at the best of times.

SnidelyWhiplash · 25/01/2025 11:54

Not a thing in our house. My husband drinks coffee and I don’t. I might drink tea once or twice a month. He’s up and showered and out with the dog before I’m even awake. Then I’m at the gym before he’s back. So our weekend mornings are spent entirely separate!

Same, DP drinks it but the taste is disgusting, I'll never understand its popularity! I don't like sugar in hot drinks, but I think the only way I could drink coffee, if I somehow had to, would be if it was laden with so much sugar the sweetness drowned out the coffee taste.

Waitingfordoggo · 25/01/2025 11:55

I have mine on my own cause I get up early to go to work.

But DH and I sometimes have a lie-in during the week as we both work odd hours/self employed so sometimes have a cuppa together in bed on a weekday morning.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 25/01/2025 11:56

I get up, leave DH in bed, make us both a coffee and take his up. Sometimes I have mine in bed with him, other times I drink it in the kitchen while sorting washing, dishwasher etc.

SaltAndVinegarRiceCake · 25/01/2025 11:56

No way, first cup of tea to be enjoyed in silence and in peace.

NotaRealHousewife · 25/01/2025 11:56

@Boredlass noooooo

Flomingho · 25/01/2025 11:57

Usually have our first coffee of the day together. DH brings me it in bed and then we will chat and watch TV.

Shoxfordian · 25/01/2025 12:14

Love breakfast in bed with the papers and the husband at the weekend

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/01/2025 12:18

I tend to wake up first, feed the cat and sort the litter tray if necessary, then bring a cup of tea back to bed. Usually the cat will join us, and then DP wakes and makes the second cup. Today he’s off to meet a friend for lunch before football, and I have an eyebrow appointment at 2.30, so me and the cat are still in bed with the electric blanket on, on about the fourth cup of tea. (No children.)

Mermaidsarereal · 25/01/2025 12:24

I get up mega early on a Saturday because my body is used to it for work, and DH works a lot of night shifts so doesn't usually get up until 11ish on a Saturday so I'm already up and about by the time he wakes up!

Longma · 25/01/2025 12:26

As a youngster I always dreamt of having a teasmaid next to my bed to have an early cup of tea.

Years later I have a husband who takes on the role each weekend/holiday.

123456abcdef · 25/01/2025 12:54

In bed with my coffee. Don’t care if dh is in bed or downstairs as long as he doesn’t talk to me until I’ve finished my first coffee!

Coffee is ok. Tea is far superior.

Chemenger · 25/01/2025 13:19

Neither of us talks in the morning. He gets up and has his coffee in the living room, I take mine back to bed.
