Ignore the poll - I don't know how to disable it!

Was chatting to a chum and she said she loved starting the weekend with a cup of tea in bed with her DH.

Not us! DH brings me a coffee then goes downstairs to have his whilst reading his book.

I scroll mindlessly through MN. What about you?

(I never say chum or cuppa in RL!)

Don’t any of you have kids?? My morning coffee is drunk standing in the kitchen making breakfast and chivvying children to get dressed before swimming lessons. DH is usually somewhere else in the house getting ready to leave.

It's been a long time since I had to get up with children! Mine are 16 and 19. We never did early morning activities at the weekend though.

Ilovelowry · 25/01/2025 09:28

I get up about 5hrs before DH every Saturday and Sunday as he likes to lie in and I can't.

Hes brought me a hot drink about 4 times in 22yrs of knowing each other and two of those times were post surgery!

So I have several coffees on my own before he gets up.

booisbooming · 25/01/2025 09:28

We take it in turns to get up with DC, and the one who gets up brings the other one a cup of tea to have in bed. It is a genius system.

Threads like these make me realise how different my life is to most people
on here. Despite being a parenting site most people on here get to have a “cuppa” in peace! Where are all those who get woken at 6am and wrestle through breakfast and mess and chaos, whilst there coffee gets cold?

ps I hate the word cuppa.

Well I’m a parent but my kids are 11, 9 and 6 so no morning wrestling required any more! I’ve done my time 😁

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 25/01/2025 09:30

I have it with my son or partner depending on the weekend.

When ds was young I got up around 5 am to read, do yoga, journal, and drink tea. I love the morning solitude.

I still do that on weekdays.

MileyPsoriasis · 25/01/2025 09:30

I've got 6. But I'm usually up before anyone (thank you insomnia) Even if i wasn't, the youngest is 8 and they watch tv with a bowl of cereal or some crumpets which they do themselves.

Nope. Not originally by choice, but it does have its advantages, peaceful mornings being one of them especially now we are retired.

WhatwouldStevieNicksthink · 25/01/2025 09:34

We have our morning brew together

Be careful - I suspect the word brew might inflame the fragile in the same way cuppa does.

Yes, 3. But we don’t have to be out of the house until 10 on a Saturday morning (for swimming lessons) and they’re slightly older (11, 9 and 6) so I still have time to sit and have a coffee.

Titasaducksarse · 25/01/2025 09:35

We have 2 cups of tea in bed together, with the dog at the weekend before getting up.

namechangeGOT · 25/01/2025 09:35

Every Saturday morning our 13 year old goes and makes the teas and brings them up! We have them in bed watching the news and said 13 year old sits at the bottom of the bed swigging his tea!

SquigglePigs · 25/01/2025 09:36

I've been unwell for a while and getting up for the school run in the week is a challenge so my lovely DH wants me to get as much extra sleep at the weekend as I can so he always gets up with our 6 yr old at the weekend and leaves me to sleep. I message him when I'm awake and he brings me tea to have in bed while I come round before my little bundle of energy comes to "get me up". It's a lovely gentle way to start a weekend day and I'm very grateful. Hopefully I'll be able to return the favour at some point!

Fibrous · 25/01/2025 09:36

He brings me coffee and porridge in bed listening to 6 music. Sometimes he sits on our sofa in the bedroom, more often than not he goes back downstairs, probably on Reddit. Then we either head out for parkrun or I take the dogs out for a run on my own. 40's, no kids.

Moresettingsplease · 25/01/2025 09:36

Varies in my house

Now that is one properly trained child 😂

FenywHysbys · 25/01/2025 09:38

Together. We get up at 7am every day (including weekends) as we both care for my disabled dad…

DuesToTheDirt · 25/01/2025 09:38

Without, usually. He gets up later than me, and neither of us wants food or drink in bed. As I type, I've been up for an hour and he's still in bed.

namechangeGOT · 25/01/2025 09:38

@Moresettingsplease

Ha! It's the only thing he does 🤣

I’m single too but still love my morning cuppa (yes I use that word in RL), coffee not tea, and toast, in bed every single morning. I’ll watch a bit of Youtube while having it. Even though I am single and my kids are grown it stills feels like a treat and the best part of the day.

I'm single too. I have my toast and tea in a warm bath in the mornings. Bliss!

Vettrianofan · 25/01/2025 09:40

No chance of drinking tea in peace with small DC at home!

Agree. And for God's sake, no one say "cup of char". 🙈 😂

Differentstarts · 25/01/2025 09:41

Always alone before kids and partner get up. I don't like people when I first wake up i need 20 minutes.

WhatwouldStevieNicksthink · 25/01/2025 09:41

We're empty nesters now with DD at university but when she was small, DH would get up with her at the weekends and bring me a coffee in bed. He lives to serve 😊

He has brought me a second coffee and a round of toast before he headed out to the gym.

Think I'll have a shower and walk the dog.

In a bit!

I'm an early riser and DP isn't so I always have my cuppa on my own, then later make him one which he has in bed whilst trying to wake up!

DH plays golf early most Saturdays so my tea is also brought up by DS13! He’s incredibly sweet and well trained.
