Ignore the poll - I don't know how to disable it!

Was chatting to a chum and she said she loved starting the weekend with a cup of tea in bed with her DH.

Not us! DH brings me a coffee then goes downstairs to have his whilst reading his book.

I scroll mindlessly through MN. What about you?

(I never say chum or cuppa in RL!)

Do people really do the same exact thing every Saturday morning?

Pretty much!
We have a coffee in bed from the ground coffee machine whilst watching James Martin for a bit. Then get up and do our own things around the flat or head out.

CatCaretaker · 25/01/2025 09:13

Before DD came along, I'd have mine downstairs alone because DP slept till midday. Now, with newborn, I'm having mine now, after an all nighter, before DP takes over.

YABU to use the word cuppa. I don't know what other response you need from this thread?

You're not really a morning person, are you?
😁

lazyarse123 · 25/01/2025 09:14

Neither of us like drinking or eating in bed. I love getting up first and having a bit of alone time with my first coffee and mumsnet or reading
. We're retired and are together constantly.
He also doesn't sleep well so is usually up before me except today but I will have to wake him soon or he won't sleep tonight. I don't want to.

RabbitsRock · 25/01/2025 09:14

DH usually works on Saturdays but has recently started asking if I want a cuppa in bed before he goes. He has his downstairs with breakfast. If he’s starting work later, we’ll have one in bed together. I rarely start work before 12.

TorroFerney · 25/01/2025 09:15

Alone sat on the bed watching border force and scrolling. In a hotel though I love communal breakfast.

dontforgetme · 25/01/2025 09:16

I love my Saturday morning cuppa downstairs. Usually it's just me for the first one as dp is with our son on the PlayStation. Their Saturday morning ritual. Suits me just fine, I usually look for lucysmams Saturday morning thread!

LouH1981 · 25/01/2025 09:17

My DH is unable to do anything in the morning until he has had a coffee so he will usually make a cup of tea for me at the same time. He drinks his in peace (seemingly unaware of the small children around him) while I charge around getting breakfasts, dealing with toileting requests and general parenting and usually find or remember said tea 45 minutes later, stone cold, but I’ll drink it nonetheless. It’s very romantic 😊😂

BunnyLake · 25/01/2025 09:17

I’m single too but still love my morning cuppa (yes I use that word in RL), coffee not tea, and toast, in bed every single morning. I’ll watch a bit of Youtube while having it. Even though I am single and my kids are grown it stills feels like a treat and the best part of the day.

Threads like these make me realise how different my life is to most people
on here. Despite being a parenting site most people on here get to have a “cuppa” in peace! Where are all those who get woken at 6am and wrestle through breakfast and mess and chaos, whilst there coffee gets cold?

ps I hate the word cuppa.

Jesus Christ. Cheer up.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 25/01/2025 09:20

We have a cup of tea in bed together every morning, made by him.

Thanks for your lovely replies ☕️

We have papers delivered at the weekend
so read those

Ooh I like the idea of that. Retro and more civilised than checking the Mail Online on my phone!

We take turns getting up with the kids so will have our first alone, but then have one together when the other wakes up.

SleeplessInWherever · 25/01/2025 09:21

My partner goes down and makes them, brings them back up and we sit on the bed drinking tea/coffee while the child watches his iPad.

One of my favourite parts of the week tbh!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 25/01/2025 09:22

Cuppa makes me feel sick.

MileyPsoriasis · 25/01/2025 09:22

Usually on my own. He is an unreasonable bastard doesn't drink tea or coffee, so he wouldn't have one anyway. He actually followed me downstairs this morning, think I must of disturbed him getting up.

Personally, I like the 20 minutes time to myself.

PumpkinPie2016 · 25/01/2025 09:24

We have our morning brew together - I like it because the week is so hectic and mornings very rushed, so it's nice to just have the time to enjoy a brew together.

TheNoonBell · 25/01/2025 09:24

Every saturday, including this morning, DH brings be a cup of tea in bed, then goes and makes us a bacon and sausage breakfast bun. Then joins me to eat and read the paper.

Bliss!

Saschka · 25/01/2025 09:24

Don’t any of you have kids?? My morning coffee is drunk standing in the kitchen making breakfast and chivvying children to get dressed before swimming lessons. DH is usually somewhere else in the house getting ready to leave.

Sounds like someone could use a cuppa.

No thank you!

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 25/01/2025 09:26

We have ours in bed, with the kids 🤣

timetobegin · 25/01/2025 09:27

We have coffee in bed every morning together unless one of us is away for work.
