Ignore the poll - I don't know how to disable it!

Was chatting to a chum and she said she loved starting the weekend with a cup of tea in bed with her DH.

Not us! DH brings me a coffee then goes downstairs to have his whilst reading his book.

I scroll mindlessly through MN. What about you?

(I never say chum or cuppa in RL!)

Love the weekend for lie ins. Used to work Saturdays till last year so really value the 2 mornings I have to wake up later and go at a slow pace!
we have our coffee in bed together reading or on our phones with the pets on the bed too. I think it's my favourite part of the week.

AlertCat · 25/01/2025 08:58

We have it together in bed, but we don’t talk much. So it’s nice and peaceful but also companionable.

I have my second morning cup on my own, in the week, before going to work, and I love having it outside (all year round) in solitude.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/01/2025 08:58

I'm generally up around 3 hours before my partner. I have my cuppa on the sofa after making breakfast while my son has some screen time.

gamerchick · 25/01/2025 08:58

Nah I have mine at work (like now) and I have my own bedroom. Husband gets up before me for work and I'd rather cram some more sleep in Grin

Do people really do the same exact thing every Saturday morning?

Depends what we’ve got on and where we have to be. On a quiet weekend like this, yes we do. Is that a problem?

Nigellastwinklylights · 25/01/2025 09:02

DH downstairs, stalking people on strava. Me upstairs, catching up on MN, the times online and wordle. Currently on 3rd cup of tea and expecting to see the dog anytime now as I can hear him bounding up the stairs.
Sunny day for once, so may get up soon 😀

Sparklehead · 25/01/2025 09:03

Ours varies, depending on what time we have to get up and what we have going on that day. Weekdays, one of us (mainly me, but sometimes DH) gets up, makes a cup of tea (we now also make for eldest DC) and, if time, we’ll have it in bed and a quick chat about the day. But often not enough time, in which case, we’ll both drink our tea whilst getting ready for work etc. At weekends, I’m always awake and up first. Will make us both a cuppa, then sometimes stay and drink in bed with DH, but often enjoy pottering around downstairs, in solitude before the (normally) busy weekend starts.

Maboscelar · 25/01/2025 09:03

It's never occurred to me that having a cup of tea in the morning is a specific activity, to be done with someone else. I just have one while I get on with other stuff.

Doggymummar · 25/01/2025 09:04

We are sat aside by side in the sofa now having it.

anon2022anon · 25/01/2025 09:05

Both. I wake up earlier, so I go downstairs and have one. When I hear movement, I take another upstairs for us both, which we are currently laid drinking in bed together.

biscuitsandbooks · 25/01/2025 09:07

I normally bring my coffee back to bed while DH sleeps in, but he's at work today and I haven't moved yet Grin

YABU to use the word cuppa. I don't know what other response you need from this thread?

Aren't you uptight? It's an old English term! Nothing to get all snobby about! I'm sure there are terms that you use people would think are silly....

MooFroo · 25/01/2025 09:08

DH still asleep
I’ve just come down and made my cuppa and will read my book as soon as I get off mumsnet

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 25/01/2025 08:56

Wait - what Mumsnet puzzles?!

I do those too from time to time. Scroll down on the home page

poorbuthappy · 25/01/2025 09:09

Both. Weekends I make him a cup and take it up. I sit downstairs with dog and have 1st cup. Then dh comes down ready for the day and we have a 2nd cup together and talk crap for 20 before we get on with day

FrannyScraps · 25/01/2025 09:09

This is soo weird! I can't imagine doing things at exactly the same time as my DH every morning. It's like the couples who share an email account or take their DH with them to a meet up with a friend.

We just get a drink when we wake up? It's not an event surely?

Do people really do the same exact thing every Saturday morning?

Yep but DD has an early Saturday morning music lesson. There is no time for a lesiurely cup of tea/coffee but even if there was I love some time to myself first thing.

Yes...why not?

Prefer to have my morning cuppa alone, DH can be very annoying first thing in the morning

I love this! 😆😆

Ditto!

Dh downstairs with his coffee
Me and dog upstairs w a pot of tea and mumsnet for me. Dog is napping.

It's one of my most favourite times of day.

Ditto 😁

notacooldad · 25/01/2025 09:12

We do a bit if both, usually depending if I'm working or not.
Usually together but if he has stuff to he will bring me a brew up and I'll play on my phone for a bit.

Pascha · 25/01/2025 09:12

I'm drinking mine while sat in the car watching Ds2 at tennis so I guess I'm having it alone which is nice.

Honestly though? We don't do one or the other, some weekends it's a coffee pot in the kitchen and a communal breakfast and others it's a flask in a car or stood outside alone.
