It's a hideous and chavvy name, but your mum is right. It's not your place to say anything.

It's a good job she's locked down a nickname, people would have called her Euph lol. Ria makes sense when she's older.

Am I missing something? It really isn’t that bad. It’s just another virtuous name like Joy, Faith, Hope, Harmony, Verity.
It’s a little unusual and not my cup of tea, but it way less “out there” than half of the names you hear these days.
Ultimately it’s none of your business and your mum is right. It’s not like she’s calling her something offensive so you really need to button it.

I knew a Victoria, whose parents had nn'd her Ria. At school she was always called Ria End.

I heard when we left school she'd insisted on being called Vicky.

I actually really like it.

I quite like it, and usually prefer traditional names.

My first was meant to be Alice. So I sang "who the fuck is Alice" repeatedly in recovery room (morphine had been administered, copiously).

Idiocy like that is only ever OK if you have a few dozen million to this name - like Apple Paltrow or Fifi Trixibelle whatever. People on normal salaries should be merciful to their children.

Names such as Gloria, Joy, Hope, Prudence are hardly that different.

I quite like it and I don't usually go for unusual names. Regardless, it's not your place to tell your sister to choose something else .

It leaves the kid open to being the butt of many jokes, especially when she's a grumpy menopausal woman- She will detest it.

Fine when one is young and pretty and wafting about- less appropriate when one is older.
