Posting for traffic.

I'm on 3, DF is on Giff Gaff. Down detector says both networks are reporting issues in the last half hour or so.

Anyone else?

I can't call my Dad - it either doesn't connect or kucks me straight off - he can call me but it's not coming through until he leaves a voicemail - not ringing my end but I get voicemail notification.

Texts are sketchy.

Smarty has been on/off but I am in an area with mobile mast issues anyway (ongoing for years) soni never know if it's that or the provider.

CharlotteCChapel · 23/01/2025 18:53

I tried ringing my dad earlier but there was no dial tone I'm with ID

MistressoftheDarkSide · 23/01/2025 19:06

Just saw a comment on Down Detector from a breakdown recovery chap - so many things being affected but no mention on Sky News or any major news channel that I can see. It is countrywide so I feel for anyone in the path of the storm. I know storms can affect coverage, but this will have made it difficult to co-ordinate efforts to mitigate the impact I'm sure.

People might be unaware if they haven't tried to make a call today but if they try in an emergency situation and can't get through it could cost lives.

Out of interest has anyone on here having phone issues with the affected providers and who are in the storm area received the warning alert text thing?

Shall we run a bet on what the problem is? A fiver on squirrels as a starter.

Yes, I can't make or receive calls but got the signal. I'm in Glasgow with 3.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 23/01/2025 19:34

That's slightly reassuring x hope you weather the storm OK xxxx

So just had a call come through. However 1 min in it dropped off and now can’t get a call in or out again. Hopefully this is a sign that the fix will be soon though.

Calamitousness · 23/01/2025 19:35

Horrace · 23/01/2025 19:37

That's interesting...

For me everything just stopped around 1pm with no warning or explanation. Have seen comments from Northerners on Down Detector that their outage started around 11am. I'm intrigued. And frustrated.

It's started working again for one of the DC - she's currently on the phone to a friend. Still not working for me though.

Just tried my Dad - this time it actually rang a few times but then kicked me off again. Waiting for him to text and let me know if it rang at his end.

So it rang for him but it said call rejected or something when he answered. I called him again - no ringing this time, but I got a text about his call to me although it didn't ring my end. It's really annoying.

Yes, calls have been down since lunchtime (on 3). Husband is same, also with them. We are in the red storm area but did get the government alert.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 23/01/2025 21:04

8 hours and counting. Very worrying that there are reports of issues calling 999. You won't know unless you try, which if course you shouldn't do unless it's a genuine emergency. Very worried about people dependent on their mobile service, such as while travelling etc or due to vulnerabilities. Really think 3 should be a bit more forthcoming about the issues and timescales for a fix right now.

Three is gubbed in Central Scotland too. I can't make or receive calls or get through to the answer machine.

rainbowunicorn · 23/01/2025 21:17

If you have WhatsApp you can use that to make calls

NoCarbsForMe · 23/01/2025 21:21

Yes! Wouldn't call my mum all evening. DHs phone worked fine.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 23/01/2025 21:22

Unfortunately some calls I need to make are to landlines or to older people who may struggle with another app unless someone can show them how it works.
